Darrell K Royal Texas Memorial Stadium (aka: DKR) has been under construction for the last two years as part of the University of Texas’ plans to upgrade the stadium by adding more seats, more suites and a new academic center. The renovations will be complete when UT kicks off the 2008 season at DKR, where the new capacity will be over 90,000 seats. Below is a seating diagram that includes these latest renovations:
The upper-level seating on the North side of the stadium (aka: horseshoe) is all new. There is also an exclusive club in the North endzone and chairback seating for members who have access to that endzone club. In addition, there are 44 new luxury suites in DKR. UT also decided to keep the temporary bleachers that were put up in the South Endzone prior to 2007.
DKR used to have a capacity around 85,000 fans, but the new version will seat over 90,000 Longhorn fans and visitors. The new DKR will move up a few spots in the rankings of the largest college football stadiums in the United States, from 14th largest to 12th largest. The next round of stadium upgrades for UT, once these are complete, will be to close in the South Endzone by building a permanent lower-level endzone and upper-deck.
