This week in Austin

With so many things going on in the “Live Music Capital of the World,” it’s hard to sort thru it all to find out the best place to spend your time!  But it doesn’t all happen on the weekend!!  I’m going to do my best to sort thru the good and the bad and give you some ideas of how you might want to spend your week!

If you are into theatre or at least a little of the improvisational kind, check out Blue 60. It’s happening today, Monday 27th at 8pm at the Blue Theatre (916 Springdale).  If you don’t have any idea what it is, it’s a group of 60 people that get together to perform and show what they have to offer in 60 seconds!  60 performers, 60 seconds each, totaling 60 minutes of Austin’s best writers, performers, filmmakers and entertainers doing what they do best.

If this doesn’t sound like your cup of tea, perhaps you can make it today, Monday April 27th at 7pm, to Independence Brewery at Segovia (7010 Hwy. 71 W.) to enjoy a five-course Spanish dinner with locally brewed beers. It is only $25 per person but if you are planning to do this tonight, act quick because reservations are suggested.

If you cannot make it to this dining experience, on Tuesday the 28th, Pier Manna will guide another monthly Italian wine-and-food pairing dinners at Andiamo Ristorante (2521 Rutland).  This dinner is a little more pricey at $45 per person but it’s sure to be worth it.  Reservations for this event are also suggested.

Now there is also something for you sports lovers!  Now granted, we don’t have a professional basketball team to root for during the start of the playoffs, we still have baseball!   Austin (or Round Rock’s) AAA baseball team, the Round Rock Express play Monday the 27th and Tuesday the 28th at the Dell Diamond (3400 E. Palm Valley Blvd., Round Rock).  But if you don’t want to venture that far to see a baseball game, Austin’s own, University of Texas Baseball Team, will be playing the Texas State Bobcats on Tuesday the 28th at 6pm and the Baylor Bears on Friday, May 1st at 6pm.

No you must be thinking, for the Live Music Capitol of the World, where is all the music?!?!  Well have no fear, I’ve got some of that coming your way too!!!  This Tuesday the 28th, Seal will be playing at Bass Concert Hall (UT campus, 23rd & East Campus Drive).

On Wednesday the 29th, there are some favorites, like George Clinton and the Parliament Funk playing at Stubb’s (801 Red River).  But just down the street at Mohawk (912 Red River) there is something going on that Austin was built upon….LOCAL MUSIC and Home Grown Live.  This event is hosted by a local radio station (101X) and features local music from the Austin Area.  This week the bands include Frantic Clam, SPEAK and Model UN.  In my opinion, this is one of the best events to check out hot local bands because all ages are permitted, you get a variety of good music at one venue and its REALLY CHEAP, $5 at the door!

But lets say that you would rather see more nationally known bands!  Thursday April 30th, Sugarland will be performing at the Erwin Center (1701 Red River) at 7:30 pm and Death Cab for Cutie will be playing on Friday, May 1st at the Austin Music Hall (208 Nueces).

There are some Comedy Shows this week as well!  Greg Giraldo will be at Capital City Comedy Club (8120 Research Blvd) Thursday April 30th-May 2nd.  Also Rodney Carrington will be playing at the Austin Music Hall (208 Nueces) on Thursday April 30th as well.

With so many things going on this week/weekend, good luck in planning your week!  For those of you who know what events you want to do, visit or call us at 1-800-SOLD OUT to have us help you with all your ticketing needs!
