Gibbard and Tambarello make up the Postal Service

When a band produces an album as popular as The Postal Service’s Give Up, a follow up usually isn’t far behind and there’s widespread touring behind it to capitalize on all the success. That wasn’t the case for Ben Gibbard and Jimmy Tambarello, as the duo already had other popular gigs that took up most of their time — Death Cab for Cutie and Dntel. The band didn’t even record the album together, instead sending the different pieces of songs through the mail – hence the name The Postal Service. The album was given almost universal acclaim as every song could have been released as a successful single — including my favorite “Nothing Better.”

Now the band is back with a re-release of Give Up, a 2-CD issue with the entire first album, two new songs and 15 additional tracks including cover versions and a live recording of “Recycled Air.” The band will be touring across North America after a few festival dates and a short trip to Western Europe which marks the first Postal Service tour since 2003.

The tour kicks off on April 9th in Reno and some highlights include a two-weekend stint at Coachella and a show at the Sasquatch! Music Festival in Washington before the coast-to-coast tour. The band will hit the Dallas area on June 3rd in Grand Prairie before heading up the Eastern coast from Orlando to Boston. The Postal Service will play in Vancouver before their last two dates in Portland and Berkeley on July 17th and 26th, respectively.
