George Strait – The Cowboy Rides Away Tour – Part Deux

The day we’ve all been waiting for has finally arrived; in a press conference today at AT&T Stadium, George Strait announced dates for the last leg of his Cowboy Rides Away tour. The first leg of his tour in 2013 consisted of 21 dates with Martina McBride and Miranda Lambert along for the ride. I had the opportunity to see him perform at his final stop and hometown of San Antonio and it was without a doubt the best show I’ve ever seen. He truly “brought down the house”; by the end of the show just about everyone was in tears as he played his last song, “I Believe”, that he wrote about the children in Newtown, CT.

After such a memorable first part of his tour, it’s hard to imagine how things could get even better, but this is George Strait we are talking about here. His 2014 tour is shaping up to be even bigger and better with 26 cities and even more opening acts such as Sheryl Crow, Miranda Lambert, Little Big Town, Jason Aldean, Lee Ann Womack (I can practically hear them singing “Good News, Bad News” already), and more. He hasn’t yet revealed which openers will accompany him during which dates but it looks like no matter who joins him it will be a star-studded event. After all, you do have to be a pretty big deal to open for the King of Country himself.

George Strait has said that the Cowboy Rides Away Tour will be his last one, and at the age of 61, who can blame him? But he’s slated to record at least 5 more albums through his label so it looks like we haven’t heard the last of him yet. He holds the record for the most #1 hits on the charts with 60 over the course of his career and with 5 more albums in the works I smell at least a few more #1’s. Even if George Strait does decide to perform after this tour, he’s made it pretty clear that this is the last time he’ll do something on this scale. For most of us, this will likely be the last chance to see him perform so don’t let this opportunity pass you by. Below is the list of his final shows; find the one closest to home and secure your tickets, they’ll be available here at the end of Setember. As George would say, catch a ride, catch a cab, take a truck, take a Chevy, find a truck and fire it up, lean on the gas and off the clutch, but whatever you do, run to see him in his final tour.  I guarantee he’ll put on the show of a lifetime, one you are sure to never forget.
