Season’s First BCS Rankings Cause Quite A Stir

As the season’s first BCS poll rankings are revealed, it’s always expected there will be a difference of opinion, and many opinions at that. However, some interesting upsets this weekend, with the likes of Ohio State and Nebraska, mixed with the usual chatter around the much debated BCS, have brought even more debate. “Pay no attention to these BCS standings,” saya Dan Wetzel of Yahoo’s And Bleacher Report asks the question, “Who Got Screwed in the First BCS Poll?” Depsite Nebraska’s loss to Texas and still being ranked above them (No. 16 vs No. 19), some would argue Nebraska still got screwed after a 7 point loss to a then unranked team. And apparently Wisconsin’s win over Ohio State did not have the impact many expected as the Badgers still chase the Buckeyes in the poll, No. 13 to No. 10.

This week TicketCity welcomes Kelley Rochna as the newest member of the team as our talented new Marketing Manager. 

Kelley graduated from TCU and worked at The Richards Group in Dallas and LA for a number of years.  Some smart people convinced her to move to Austin and continue her career with McGarrah Jesse.  Haven proven that she is now a true Austinite and can handle working with some rowdy Texas fans, we are thrilled to have her join our team.

It’s only been a few days but Kelley’s enthusiasm and passion is lighting a fire in all of us.  Look for great things to come as we head into football season!

The Marketing Manager is responsible for collaborating with Marketing and other TicketCity Departments to develop, plan, implement and evaluate marketing communications efforts across all platforms including paid media, social media, email & direct response, website, partnerships, PR, events, affiliate programs, etc.  The Marketing Manager reports to the VP of Marketing and job responsibilities include:

  • Develop strategic  partnerships that generate revenue and grow the brand
  • Guide enhancements of retail-driven website to improve appearance, content, user experience, purchase process and features
  • Identify and implement SEO strategies with Web/SEO Manager to fuel explosive online growth
  • Create innovative social media campaigns driving brand awareness and social interaction
  • Develop programs to improve communication and retention of existing clients, while gaining referrals to new clients
  • Guide planning and implementation of email communications program with current ESP (Responsys)
  • Analyze and utilize data from web analytics provider (Coremetrics) to perform regular reporting on key performance indicators, as well as identify issues or opportunities to address
  • Address paid media inquiries, including evaluating opportunities, making recommendations, and communicating with media contacts
  • Manage creative development of marketing materials and advertisements, including both art direction and copywriting.  Experience with Illustrator, Photoshop and Dreamweaver preferred; not mandatory
  • Develop and distribute company press releases, manage press inquiries and coordinate interviews
  • Assist in management of affiliate program to drive incremental traffic and sales
  • Be an emphatic brand ambassador focusing on growing the company’s brand
  • Oversee student internship program including direct management of marketing interns
  • Work closely with other departments on planning and implementation for company  events

Fans Of All Ages See Elton John in Austin

Now I’ll be honest, I’m not sure if I would have gone to Elton John if a friend hadn’t asked about going first.  But that did get me thinking about just how many hits the legendary piano man has.  I think I forgot just how many.  As it turned out, we ended up with a great group of friends going, and we saw even more at the show.  Sir Elton John packed the house at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin on Saturday night, and I was reminded just how many generations he has reached by the broad age range of fans in attendance.

The show started out solid, yet a tad subdued prior to the show really ramping up.  The legend played for a solid three hours and got up from his piano bench to have some fun with the crowd between songs.  Unlike many artists these days, Elton also signed autographs near the end of the concert for many fans.  So it wasn’t long before everyone was on their feet.  We were also introduced to Rich, a fan who EJ recognized seeing at a lot of his shows.  Rick told him he had been to more than 100-or-some-odd shows.  Now that is what I call a fan, and that made me think, exactly how old is Elton John these days?  The answer is the ripe ol age of 63 and he’s still putting on a damn good show.

Jason Welton Joins The TicketCity Team

This week we welcome another new member to our TicketCity team - Jason Welton. 

Jason is joining TicketCity as an experienced Sales Representative offering our clients excellent customer service and helping them with the events they want to attend.  Jason has a strong background in sales and customer service, as well as a number of top performer awards under his belt. He’s a native Texan, grew up just outside of Waco and now lives in Austin with his family.

Jason is a huge sports fan, rooting for the Longhorns, Rockets and Astros, but he also has some talents of his own, having played sports for most of his life, including semi- pro football.  We’re excited to have Jason join the team and help us continue to provide all of our clients with unforgettbale experiences across the world!
