American Airlines Center going HD.

Since the Dallas Cowboys new stadium just opened with state of the art technology and design.   The other Dallas sports teams decided they need to step up their game too.   The American Airlines Center where both the Dallas Stars and Dallas Mavericks play are working to update their video on sound systems.   They are adding large HD displays that can be seen any seat in the building.   This will make American Airlines be the first and biggest 1080 High Definition replay system for and NHL or NBA venue.  The following link gets you a good look at that changes they are making.  So remember when next season rolls around to get some tickets to a games or two from TicketCity.   Because the changes they are making are definitely ones that have to be seen.

Stanley Cup Finals are Here

With Detroit Red Wings victory of the Dallas Stars last night, the Stanley Cup Finals are here.   The Pittsburgh Penguins will take on the Detroit Red Wings in the best of 7 finals.    It isn’t the Dallas Stars vs. Pittsburgh Penguins match up I dreamed for throughout this playoff season but I am happy that at least one of my teams have made it.

The Dallas Star and the Philadelphia Flyers have nothing to be ashamed of they went a lot farther than most people gave them credit for.   Both of these teams owe a great debt to their goaltenders Marty Turco and Martin Biron.  These two goaltenders had some amazing games this playoff season and were both the biggest factor in why their teams got as far as they did.

Well let’s now take a look at the two teams in the finals.

Stanley Cup Finals: Detroit Red Wings vs. Pittsburgh Penguins

I will start out by taking a look at the powerhouse that is Detroit.   The Red Wings had the best record in the league during the regular season.  They have great forwards that can play defense like  Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk.   This helps out a defense that really doesn’t need much help since you have Nicklas Lidstrom back there along with the experience of Chris Chelios.    The Detroit team is one with a lot of experience.

On the other hand, you have the fairly young team of the Pittsburgh Penguins led by Captain Sid (“The Kid”) Crosby.   The Penguins have been firing on all cylinders during the playoffs.   Marc-Andre Fleury has been wonderful between the pipes showing why he deserved to be the number one draft pick in 2003.  The Penguins have four players with 15 points or more in 14 games (Crosby, Hossa,Malkin, and Malone).    If one of these players have had a bad night it hasn’t matter because one or more of the rest have stepped up and gotten things done for the Penguins.

So the Red Wings had the best record in the regular season and have many highly experienced players.  The Penguins have had the best record in the playoffs and have many young and skillful players.    So it should be an excellent series to watch.    My prediction for who will win this series is the Pittsburgh Penguins six games.

NHL Conference Finals

The battle for the Stanley Cup is down to four teams : Pittsburgh Penguins, Philadelphia Flyer’s, Detroit Red Wings, and the Dallas Stars.     Which I am super excited about since my two absolute favorite teams the Stars and Penguins are in it, and could even face each other in the Finals.    I feel that of the four teams left anyone of them has a good chance for the cup.    All four of these teams have played with a lot of heart and determination.  Here is my thoughts on the Western Conference Series.

Western Conference Finals- Detroit Red Wings vs.  Dallas Stars

Going into this series Dallas is the underdog but that is how they like it.  In the first round they knock out the heavily favored Anaheim Ducks (last year’s Stanley Cup winners) in a series of games were Dallas obviously looked like the better team, and the Ducks looked flat.   In round two Dallas again started out strong winning the first two games on the road, but all the games of this series were extremely close and could have ended up either way.    Dallas was finally able to knock out the San Jose Sharks at home in a Game 6 that went into four overtimes.      Turco has looked outstanding in the net during these playoffs having the second best GAA in the playoffs with a 1.73.

While Detroit has the goalie with the best GAA in the playoffs with Chris Osgood.  Who has a GAA of 1.52.  Osgood started out these playoffs backing up Dominick Hasek, but after Hasek started to look shaky in Nashville in round one the put in Osgood and haven’t looked back.  Since Osgood has been the starter the Red Wings haven’t lost a game.   In round two the quickly put away the Colorado Avalanche winning the series 4-0.   Also, in game four they humiliated the Avalanche in a 8-2 victory.  Johan “The Mule” Franzen lead the Red Wings in that series with  nine goals in that series.

So Dallas will have to be running on all cylinders if they are to win this series.   Dallas one only a single game against Detroit this season in a 1-0 victory.   So I think Turco will be key to giving them a chance in this series.   Hopefully though Dallas’s offense can give Turco a little breathing room and not have it all come down to the man between the pipes.

Round 2 Begins of Stanley Cup Playoffs

We are through the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs and it has already been a exciting one.   Both of my favorite teams, the Dallas Stars and Pittsburgh Penguins, have advanced to round 2.

I was able to go to game 6 of the Dallas Stars series against last years champs, the Anaheim Ducks.  It was an absolutely great experience that I will never forget.   I had great seats behind the goal where Marty Turco was in the 1st and 3rd periods.   Turco was amazing throughout this series.   I was also extremely impressed with the play of young D-man Mark Fistric.    He played in only half of the games in the series, replacing the injured Philippe Boucher, and he did a fantastic job.    I see him becoming a great player in the next few years.

Another defenseman who doesn’t get as much respect as he should was the hero of game 6, Stephane Robidas.    Robidas scored the first Dallas goal of game 6 and had the assist on the game winner.     He had to play game 6 with a face cage on since he broke his nose in game 5 when he took a fast puck to the face.    A broken nose is nothing new for Robidas since it has happened to him countless times.

Now the Stars will face another division rival in round 2, the San Jose Sharks.  This should be a interesting series.   In the regular season the series between these two teams was even and in the last game of the season the Stars beat the Shark  4-2.  There was a total of 160 penalty minutes in that game.  I expect this to be a hard hitting series.

For the rest of the league:

Eastern Conference

Montreal Canadiens vs Philadelphia Flyers:   In the regular season the Canadiens dominated the Flyers, but don’t count the Flyers out.   The Flyer’s Daniel Briere leads the league in goals and points so far in the playoffs.   While the Canadiens rookie goalie Carey Price has been doing wonderfully, the Boston Bruins proved in game 5 that if you can get Price on a tilt you can do some damage.

Pittsburgh Penguins vs New York Rangers:  This series will be a close one and I am betting it will go to a game 7 decision.  The Rangers in the regular season had a record of 5-3-0 over the Penguins.  It will come down to which team’s top players perform better.   For the Penguins, Crosby and Malkin need be on top of their game.   For the Rangers, Jaromir Jagr will need to do what he does best and Scott Gomez needs play with the same intensity he played with against his former team the New Jersey Devils in round 1.

Western Conference

DetroitRed Wings vs Colorado Avalanche: The Red Wings won all four reagular season games against the Avalanche.  So the Red Wings looks to keep that ball rolling and make short work of the Avalanche.    The Avalanche have become a different team since the trade deadline though.  With the adding of Peter Forsberg back on the Avalanche bench.  Also, Jose Theodore’s goaltending is looking more like he did in his prime when he was with the Canadiens.

San Jose Sharks vs Dallas:   This looks to be a series that could go either way.   For the San Jose to win Evgeni Nabokov will have to be better than he has been so far in the playoffs this year.    Nabokobv is the front runner for the Vezina Trophy but with a save percentage of  .895 in the playoffs he will need to step it up.  Dallas rookie defensemen will need to continue  to be there and keep the Stars in it and not make the job of defense fall completely on Marty Turco.

The second round looks to be a good one, so get your tickets from TicketCity for all your Stanley Cup Playoff needs.

Stanley Cup Playoffs

The Race for Lord Stanley’s Cup begins April 9.   There is nothing quite like playoff hockey.   This year both of my favorite teams are in, the Dallas Stars and the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Dallas Stars are coming in with having lost in the first round the last two years with not the best of performances.    This year the Stars are hoping that their newest player Brad Richards does what he did in his first game with the Stars.   The Stars acquired Brad Richards from the Tampa Bay Lighting at the trade dead line this year.    In his first game with the Stars he recorded an amazing five assists.   But since that game the Stars have stumbled with a record of 4-8-2.    Stars fan are hoping that keep the momentum going from their last game where they beat the San Jose Sharks in a game with over 160 penalty minutes.    The Stars will have to face last year’s Stanley Cups winners and division rivals the Anaheim Ducks.  It should be a good hard series make sure you don’t miss out and get tickets here:

The Pittsburgh Penguins have been doing amazing this year with all their young talent, most notably Sidney Crosby their captain.      The Penguins also hope to get out of a playoff funk.  Last year they lost in the first round in five games to the Ottawa Senators.   This year they again face the Senators in the first round this time though the Senators are the underdog.   Penguins’ fans aren’t willing to underestimate the Senators though.     The Senators started the season extremely strong with a record of 13-2-0 in their first 15 games of the season.   Even though the Senators squeaked into the playoffs.  If they can find the magic they had at the first of the season.  The Penguins will have their hands full against them.   So don’t miss Penguins as the young Crosby looks to raise the Cup, find your tickets here:
