This week in Austin

With so many things going on in the “Live Music Capital of the World,” it’s hard to sort thru it all to find out the best place to spend your time!  But it doesn’t all happen on the weekend!!  I’m going to do my best to sort thru the good and the bad and give you some ideas of how you might want to spend your week!

If you are into theatre or at least a little of the improvisational kind, check out Blue 60. It’s happening today, Monday 27th at 8pm at the Blue Theatre (916 Springdale).  If you don’t have any idea what it is, it’s a group of 60 people that get together to perform and show what they have to offer in 60 seconds!  60 performers, 60 seconds each, totaling 60 minutes of Austin’s best writers, performers, filmmakers and entertainers doing what they do best.

If this doesn’t sound like your cup of tea, perhaps you can make it today, Monday April 27th at 7pm, to Independence Brewery at Segovia (7010 Hwy. 71 W.) to enjoy a five-course Spanish dinner with locally brewed beers. It is only $25 per person but if you are planning to do this tonight, act quick because reservations are suggested.

If you cannot make it to this dining experience, on Tuesday the 28th, Pier Manna will guide another monthly Italian wine-and-food pairing dinners at Andiamo Ristorante (2521 Rutland).  This dinner is a little more pricey at $45 per person but it’s sure to be worth it.  Reservations for this event are also suggested.

Now there is also something for you sports lovers!  Now granted, we don’t have a professional basketball team to root for during the start of the playoffs, we still have baseball!   Austin (or Round Rock’s) AAA baseball team, the Round Rock Express play Monday the 27th and Tuesday the 28th at the Dell Diamond (3400 E. Palm Valley Blvd., Round Rock).  But if you don’t want to venture that far to see a baseball game, Austin’s own, University of Texas Baseball Team, will be playing the Texas State Bobcats on Tuesday the 28th at 6pm and the Baylor Bears on Friday, May 1st at 6pm.

No you must be thinking, for the Live Music Capitol of the World, where is all the music?!?!  Well have no fear, I’ve got some of that coming your way too!!!  This Tuesday the 28th, Seal will be playing at Bass Concert Hall (UT campus, 23rd & East Campus Drive).

On Wednesday the 29th, there are some favorites, like George Clinton and the Parliament Funk playing at Stubb’s (801 Red River).  But just down the street at Mohawk (912 Red River) there is something going on that Austin was built upon….LOCAL MUSIC and Home Grown Live.  This event is hosted by a local radio station (101X) and features local music from the Austin Area.  This week the bands include Frantic Clam, SPEAK and Model UN.  In my opinion, this is one of the best events to check out hot local bands because all ages are permitted, you get a variety of good music at one venue and its REALLY CHEAP, $5 at the door!

But lets say that you would rather see more nationally known bands!  Thursday April 30th, Sugarland will be performing at the Erwin Center (1701 Red River) at 7:30 pm and Death Cab for Cutie will be playing on Friday, May 1st at the Austin Music Hall (208 Nueces).

There are some Comedy Shows this week as well!  Greg Giraldo will be at Capital City Comedy Club (8120 Research Blvd) Thursday April 30th-May 2nd.  Also Rodney Carrington will be playing at the Austin Music Hall (208 Nueces) on Thursday April 30th as well.

With so many things going on this week/weekend, good luck in planning your week!  For those of you who know what events you want to do, visit or call us at 1-800-SOLD OUT to have us help you with all your ticketing needs!

Closing the gap on Kentucky Derby!

The historical Kentucky Derby is fast approaching for 2009.  When this horse race was founded back in 1875, the Derby was held in Mid to late May.  These days it is held in the early part of May, specifically this year on the 2nd of May, preceded the day before, as always, with The Oaks.

This year will be an exciting year, as are all the years in the past, no matter if you are a horse racing fan or just there to see and be seen.  Tickets are still available for you to get out there andenjoy the weekend.  You can call one of Ticket City’s knowledgeable staff at 1-800-SOLD OUT or visit to pick up your Derby/Oaks tickets today!  Don’t miss you chance to be a part of this exciting event!!

Lady Gaga in Austin

For those of you who have tried to go to shows in other cities or missed in-prompt to shows at other venues, you haven’t missed your chance to see her yet!!  Austin Music Hall in Austin, Texas is holding an event called the “2ndChance Prom,” which is sponsored by a local station on May 6th 2009.  This event is featuring, non other than the fabulous LADY GAGA!!!

Now, if you don’t know where to look, you could go to the Austin Music Hall website and see that this show is ***SOLD OUT!***  But wait!! We have tickets here at just for you!  Check us out at or call one of our knowledgeable sales staff at 1-800-SOLD OUT to get your tickets to Lady Gaga in Austin TODAY!

Morrissey in Austin April 12th

The English Born, Steven Patrick Morrissey, will make his way across the pond to entertain the people of the States.  The performer who has been apart of several bands, most famously, The Smiths, is taking a solo tour this go around.  He will be stopping in several major cities, including Milwaukee, Chicago, Houston, Dallas and the capital city, Austin Texas.

With this tour, also comes the release of a new Single and Album from this seasoned musician.  The album “Years of Refusal” with his next single to be released “Something is Squeezing my Skull” is scheduled to be released on Monday, April 27th in the UK.

But if you notice, the dates are kinda skewed.  You know what that means!!! When you go to the show, most likely you will be one of the few to hear his new stuff from him new album before it’s released in stores!  That in itself would make me buy a ticket!! And if you don’t have your hand on them yet, for Austin or any other city that he is playing, have no fear!  Visit or call 1-800-SOLD OUT to obtain your tickets today!
