Employee Ticket Collection Spotlight: Chris Anderson

This week for the blog’s Ticket Stub Awards post, I sat down with TicketCitizen Chris Anderson, one of our purchasing associates. I interviewed him about his impressive ticket stub collection he keeps at his desk! Check out the questions and photos below:

Me: What’s one event you’d want to do again?

Chris: Definitely the World Series. I had a lot of fun.

What makes your favorite event so memorable?

I’m a big Texans fan. So finally watching the team win that you’ve been following since they were nobodies, provided a feeling of satisfaction.

Which was the most unique venue?

I went to this soccer stadium in Norway once. There weren’t any seats in the middle section and cars could just drive in. It was very bizarre.

Which was your favorite event to travel to?

TX-OU in Dallas. It’s such an amazing event with the state fair and the game and everything.

What was the most fun event?

The Houston Texans first playoff home game. I was crying and hugging and we had so much fun!

Hope you enjoyed reading this week’s Ticket Collection post. Tune in later this month for more Ticket Stub awards! Also, happy early Independence Day!

The Tadros are June Clients of the Month!

June Clients of the Month Robert and Jenni Tadros remind us that baseball is an international pastime, not just an American one. As residents of Australia, the Tadros look forward to their annual vacation in the US – an opportunity for the family to experience the excitement of MLB games in person.

Robert and Jenni count visiting every stadium on their list of life long goals. And their three children have vowed to help complete the series.

So far, the Tadros have explored six different stadiums including Dodgers Stadium, Nationals Park, and Yankee Stadium.  On their visit this year, they’ll be visiting the stadiums of the Tampa Bay Rays and the Marlins, while also attending the All Stars Game at Citi Field.

The die-hard baseball family is counting down the days to buy tickets to the Diamondbacks and Dodgers game that will be played in Australia next year. One of their sons saves up his money to buy jerseys and miniature bats from every stadium to hang in his room. Talk about dedication!

Their most memorable sporting event was celebrating their son Shane’s 16th birthday at the Dodgers Stadium. The Tadros greatly enjoyed their tour of the stadium that day and seeing a “Happy 16th Birthday” banner on the big screen for Shane!

Each member of the family has a different favorite team, ranging from the Giants to the Dodgers to the Yankees. And while they live and breathe baseball, the Tadros hope to one day attend a basketball game or the Superbowl!

Employee Ticket Collection Spotlight: Ashley Kubiszyn

This week for the blog’s Ticket Stub Awards post, I sat down with TicketCitizen Ashley Kubiszyn, our Operations Manager. I got the details about the ticket collection she keeps at her desk. See her answers and some pictures below!

Me: What’s one event you’d want to do again?

Ashley: TX-OU. I’ve been the last three years and even though we (the Longhorns) keep getting demolished I would still go back because it’s always such a great experience.

What makes your favorite event so memorable?

My favorite event has been a George Straight concert. We had great seats in row 5 and had a great time dancing and singing. Reba McEntire was there too and she brought out Melissa Peterman (who played Barbara Jean on the Reba Show) and turned the concert into a comedy hour.

Which was the most unique venue?

The Tropicana Field where the Tampa Bay Rays play. The stadium is completely enclosed and it’s an entirely different experience to watch baseball indoors. Everything down to the lighting feels different.

Which was your favorite event to travel to?

Definitely the NCAA Men’s Basketball Regionals in 2011. There’s so much excitement surrounding March Madness. We were lucky enough to see underdog team VCU (11th seed) beat Purdue (3rd seed). I’ve never seen a team shoot so many three pointers.

What was the most fun event?

The Zac Brown Band concert at the Dell Diamond. We brought blankets and got to sit in the grass. It was very casual. It was like being at a picnic with a great band.

Top 5 Ticket Stubs: Use of Player Photos 2012-13

83% of people keep ticket stubs from games, concerts, and events they attend. Aside from the fact that I just made that statistic up, it’s an undeniable truth that most people are natural-born stub hoarders. We hold onto these flimsy, could-be-recycled-easily, bits of paper for one reason. Nostalgia.

Some of us put our stubs into one place, like a jar or bulletin board, so we can view our collection of experiences at once and say things like “Hey, look, I’ve been to 27 Longhorns games in the past three years.” While the rest of us, just kind of leave them around, occasionally unearthing one in that pile on our desk, or in a drawer, and enjoying the instant reminiscence provided by finding old ticket stubs.

Here at TicketCity we have boxes of old ticket stubs in our store room and more pinned up in our cubicles. We definitely understand the idea of ticket-stub-nostalgia (Feel free to try to work that phrase into everyday conversation). As the TicketCity marketing intern, I’ve been given the awesome job of sharing ticket designs with our amazing blog readers. For our first post, I’ve decided to share the tickets I’ve found around the office that make the best use of player photos.

So here we are…drum roll please…The Best Tickets for Use of Player Photos from 2012-2013:

1. Baylor University Basketball:

These tickets get my vote mainly for freshman player Isaiah Austin’s photograph. While the other Baylor tickets feature players making menacing faces, Austin takes the intensity to a whole new height (appropriately so with his 7’1” stature).

2. University of Virginia Basketball:

On a different emotional level, the UVA players appear on many of the tickets sporting goofy smiles and exuberant attitudes. We all know athletes are intense, so it’s nice to see them showing how much fun they have playing.

3. Chicago Bears:

No question about it, the Bears get the award for most intimidating statures. I mean Jay Cutler looks about ready to pop that pigskin with his bare hands. They’re looking at us like “You better keep this ticket…or else.”

4. New York Knicks:

These tickets made the cut for their successful balance of emotion. On the right side you have a photo of a player (Tyson Chandler in this sample) in a mid-game pose, intensely watching the action. And to remind us that pro-athletes are in fact real people, the photos on the left show the player grinning and happy.

5. Brooklyn Nets:

Maybe I’m just a sucker for black and white but the Nets tickets were my favorite use of player photos. Each game showed a stark photo of a different player, almost hauntingly emerging from the darkness. While not as intense as some of the others, these tickets effectively showcase each player in a focused spotlight with no distractions.
