A good article in The New Republic about the great opportunities that sports fans will have in 2009.

Darren Rovell says “Some ticket prices are just downright stupid” and he’s right, we’ve got lots of tickets selling for lower than the price printed on the ticket.  NBA and NHL tickets selling at $10 per ticket.  NFL playoff tickets selling for $40 to $50 per ticket.  We even gave away tickets for free in certain markets to our existing clients and those signed up for our email list (An important reason to join our email list).

Rovell mentions deals for the BCS and other bowl games on StubHub that are well below face value.  He’s exactly right, except he fails to mention the best deals are going to come from ticket brokers than own inventory like TicketCity.  We have the largest inventory of tickets in the entire secondary market, so naturally we’re going to have fantastic deals for those looking for a bargain on tickets.

The Miami Heat announced a ticket promotion where they will offer some upper-level tickets for $5.00 to $10.00 per seat.  The promotion is only for select games in the 2008-2009 season, but shows how readily available NBA tickets are at low prices.

Hotlanta sports fans gotta be loving football season so far this year. Everyone is, apparently, ready for some football.

Half of our top search traffic for the month of July was related to football, both college and pro. Savvy football ticket shoppers can find great deals on tickets before the season even begins. Once the season is in full gear, and a team heats up, so do the tickets.

Apparently the Brothers Jonas are also popular, appearing at the very top and once more for good measure. Having eclipsed the age of 30, I am rather unfamiliar with them. I bet they’re just fine with that fact.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are working hard to fill up the 56,000 seats in Dodger Stadium.  They want to increase attendance down the stretch so they can get closer to matching their 47K per game attendance total from 2007; they are currently average just over 45K fans per game.

To perk up attendance the Dodgers are partnering with Travelzoo to offer step discounts on Dodger home games to Travelzoo members.  Dodgers fans who buy their tickets on Travelzoo will receive discounts on select games that are worth more than 50% off the face value.  They are charging $3.00 on reserved seats that normally sell for $16.00 and $18.00 on field box seats that normally retail for $50.00 per ticket.  Fans just need to go to the Travelzoo website and use the promotional code: TZOOJULY.  Before you rush off to Travelzoo, make sure you check out some of the deals we have to offer.

The Dodgers have been battling for first-place in their division of the National League all season, so the demand has been up-and-down throughout the year.  There has been lukewarm demand for certain “big” series, but many games are already selling at below face value on TicketCity.com.  For instance, there are Fieldbox seats selling for below face value for the upcoming Marlins vs Dodgers game.
