The Week in TicketCity Search – Avoiding The Red Flag

TicketCity Week in Search

Week of
Nov. 12th
1 2 US Grand Prix
2 10 Taylor Swift
3 1 One Direction
4 - Aerosmith
5 5 SEC Championship
6 - Carrie Underwood
7 - Cotton Bowl
8 4 Maroon 5
9 6 Miami Heat
10 7 BCS Bowl

So many racing puns, so little time… Suffice to say, the US Grand Prix takes the win this week, in what remained a relatively close battle with a very resurgent Taylor Swift. She had dropped to #10 last week after a strong debut, but leaps right back to the #2 spot this week. That leaves former champ 1D two spots out of contention. I wouldn’t worry about the boys, I suspect they’ll be reclaiming the crown soon enough.

Kinda-sorta-not-really out of nowhere, Aerosmith enters the countdown at #4. They’re playing the Frank Erwin Center tonight, so this bit of fortune isn’t really a surprise at all.

In spite of all the other changes in the top 5, the SEC championship holds steady at #5. The regular season of college football is drawing to a close, and soon the bowl frenzy will be upon us. This week the Cotton Bowl makes an appearance, while the BCS slips from #7 to #10. Get a jump on your friends and check out our Bowl game listings. Also enter this year’s TicketCity Bowl Contest for a chance for you and your three best friends to see your team play a bowl game!

Carrie Underwood debuts at #6 to start off the bottom five. She’s on the Blown Away Tour, covering North America between now and Summer 2013. She’s not slacking, the tour will rack up over 100 dates, making it a safe bet for one of the top tours of 2012 and 2013.

The Week in TicketCity Search – Resuming Our Previous Direction

Week of
Sept. 24th
1 2 One Direction
2 1 Mississippi State Football
3 3 Justin Bieber
4 4 Longhorns Football
5 - W Virginia Mountaineers
6 5 ACL Fest
7 - Lady Gaga
8 8 Dallas Cowboys
9 - Ryder Cup
10 - Aerosmith

Fear not football fans, the season is still young, but its effects on the countdown have subsided once more. We’ll see a blow out once more when bowl season rolls around. For now, we’re back to the usual course of concert domination, headlined by our friends in One Direction. The Bulldogs try to break up the fight between Bieber and 1D by sliding down to the second spot.

The Mountaineers return to the countdown this week to round out the top five. They’d put in a previous appearance some weeks back but haven’t been seen since. More churn in college football this season than in previous season, or at least it seems that way.

The ACL Fest starts off the bottom five, where we find some familiar faces. The first of whom is Gaga herself, after quite the long absence. The Born This Way Ball Tour is well underway, though it won’t reach North American shores until early 2013. In the meantime Gaga continues to crisscross Europe and South America while wondering why the number twenty-five is such a big deal.

One returning sporting event makes a late breaking appearance. The Ryder Cup wraps up this weekend at the Medinah Country Club. Will Team USA bring home the win against the Europeans? You can still get tickets to the championship to find out in person.

The Week in TicketCity Search – No Maybes About It

Week of
Jun. 25th
1 1 One Direction
2 3 Justin Bieber
3 4 Coldplay
4 7 Jason Aldean
5 5 Texas Rangers
6 - Dallas Cowboys
7 - Aerosmith
8 - Real Madrid
9 - Phish
10 - Eric Church

Looks like this will be the summer of One Direction. Fans of the esteemed Mr. Bieber have not mounted a serious challenge to the Brit boy band’s dominance since dates for the Believe Tour arrived. The addition of newly minted pop star Carly Rae Jepsen as the Beeb’s opening act hasn’t made a dent in One Direction’s numbers. Wikipedia suggests Carly Rae wasn’t plucked from complete obscurity, as she placed 3rd on season 5 of Canadian Idol before incubating a few years prior to the success of “Call Me Maybe.”

Other fun facts Wikipedia will tell you is that Marie-Antoinette probably never said this.

Coldplay moves up a notch, Jason Aldean gains three of them, and the Rangers just hang out, finishing the top five in the same spot as last week. While all of the top five were holdovers from last week, the bottom five is completely fresh. Well, Phish may have an odd smell about them…

Two things about summer in Texas, it’s hot and it’s when Cowboys’ fans brim with optimism. The Boys open up the bottom five this week, as the NFL season gets steadily closer. The Aerosmith/Cheap Trick Global Warming tour lands at #7 this week.

Fans of international soccer are looking to see Real Madrid as they play a variety of dates around the US in August. They’ll be in LA, Vegas, and New York as well as other big stadiums around the US, playing the LA Galaxy, AC Milan, and other big teams.

The Week in TicketCity Search – Direction with Magnitude

Week of
Apr. 2nd
1 1 One Direction
2 2 Kid’s Choice Awards
3 5 Justin Bieber
4 4 Drake
5 6 Texas Rangers
6 8 Bruce Springsteen
7 7 Kentucky Derby
8 10 Masters Tournament
9 - Daniel Tosh
10 - Aerosmith

If this One Direction streak continues, I will rapidly run out of puns for the title of this update. Continue it does, with another strong #1 placement by the latest set of lads from the UK to have enthralled audiences stateside. The Kid’s Choice Awards #2 spot on the countdown is all the more impressive as it represents the short rush between last week’s update and the actual award show taking place the next day.

#3 goes to Kids Choice Award selection for Favorite Male Singer, who, no doubt, narrowly edged out Toby Keith for the prize. Mr. Beiber also won for Biggest Slime of the Night.

Rounding out the top five we have the Rangers. MLB Opening Day is on the books, but the Rangers home opener is tonight in Arlington.

Springsteen leads off the bottom five, with a boost from last week’s #8 spot. The Derby holds steady at #7 while the Masters climbs a couple spots as well. Still have time to get down to Augusta for the championship rounds this weekend.

Finally, Tosh pops back into the countdown, and Aerosmith’s “Global Warming Tour” with Cheap Trick brings us to a close.

The Week in TicketCity Search – April 23rd

The Kentucky Derby and Oaks return to the countdown after a weeks absence. While traditional Derby wear for the ladies includes some big hats, they still have nothing on whatever Lady Gaga wears on a daily basis. She remains at the top, while Louisville’s long lived horse racing traditions have cost the esteemed Mr. Bieber the #2 spot. The WWE remains at a strong #5, a consistently higher showing than usual considering their line-ups were effected by last week’s volcano-induced air travel shutdown.

The bottom five finds some returning favorites and one new entry. Rush remains #6, while George Strait tumbles a bit to #7. Sharon Jones appears for the first time on the countdown. I take it efficiency was the only reason no one added The Dap Kings to their search efforts. The funk/soul band is on tour now, playing dates through June.

Rounding out the top 10 are former favorites Carrie Underwood and Aerosmith. After last year’s troubled tour, the rockers are setting out once again to play dates in Europe and South/Central America on the Cocked, Locked, Ready to Rock Tour.

1 1 Lady Gaga
2 - Kentucky Derby
3 - Kentucky Oaks
4 2 Justin Bieber
5 5 WWE
6 6 Rush
7 4 George Strait
8 - Sharon Jones
9 - Carrie Underwood
10 - Aerosmith
