The Week in TicketCity Search – October 1st

Combining all the various terms people used to find this weekend’s Texas-OU game, there really was no contest, despite the fact that ACL did put up a pretty impressive set of numbers too. The numbers are even higher than they were last year. Thought perhaps the recent UCLA game would dampen enthusiasm a bit, but it appears this game is immune that sort of effect. This will be two big weekends in a row, Texas-OU followed by ACL.

Gaga held on #3, while Daniel Tosh, who had made a brief appearance on the list a few weeks back in the bottom 5, returns at #4. The Tosh.0 star is one of the few comedians who have cracked the top 10, making this week all the more notable as another, Chelsea Handler, appears as well. Her show is down in nearby San Antonio tonight.

Drake climbs a bit to #8, and while I should just count Phish search as part of ACL at this point, I don’t and continue to let them hang around. Still pointedly avoiding a large amount of jokes based on their appearance on The Simpsons back in 2002. So, they’re on October 8th, Phish fans, don’t space on the date.

1 4 Texas Football
2 1 ACL Festival
3 3 Lady Gaga
4 - Daniel Tosh
5 8 Drake
6 - Phish
7 - WWE
8 - Chelsea Handler
9 - Shakira
10 9 Justin Bieber

Lady Gaga

Like 2 titans, Gaga and the esteemed Mr. Bieber have been clashing over the top spot for weeks now. While her Ladyship had things sown up for a while, the young upstart dethroned her 2 weeks in a row. She has once again ascended to the top. While the top 2 spots have been relatively similar these past weeks, the remainder of this week’s countdown is full of changes, including our first Taylor-Swift-less week in quite some time.

Coachella appears at a strong #3. The Music and Arts Festival on Indio, California’s Empire Polo Fields is scheduled for this weekend. Some British acts won’t be making it this year due to the eruption of the Eyjafjallaj√∂kull volcano in Iceland and the subsequent disruption of trans-Atlantic flights. Yes, I copied and pasted the name from Wikipedia, if you’re wondering…

George Strait and a rather strong showing for the WWE round out the top 5. The bottom 5 starts off with a venerable progressive rock trio Rush, with whom I’m primarily familiar with via many mentions on various Adult Swim programs. Rush will be heading out again this summer on the Time Machine Tour. Also new to the countdown is MGMT, a “Neo-psychedelia” band from Brooklyn who just released a new album called Congratulations and will also be touring this summer starting in May.

1 2 Lady Gaga
2 1 Justin Bieber
3 - Coachella
4 7 George Strait
5 9 WWE
6 - Rush
7 - Chelsea Handler
8 - MGMT
9 4 Elton John
10 8 Drake

The Week in TicketCity Search – January 22nd

As the conference championships are this weekend, not surprisingly the NFL made a stronger play for the top this week, moving into the top 5 but only barely. Lady Gaga remains on top, while Mr. Bieber slips a bit to make room for something I’ve yet to talk about despite its being on the countdown for a 3rd week now. That would be the large international snow and ice related competition occurring in the 3rd largest city in Canada. You know, the city where Mulder and Scully spent many seasons pretending it was every place in America.

Taylor Swift tumbles a bit from the top five, where she ends up next to fellow country star and list newcomer Jason Aldean. Jason has been touring in support of his Wide Open album, which was released in April 2009. He will be appearing in the list’s #6 entry, The Houston Rodeo, as will the esteemed Mr. Bieber. Houston Rodeo shows in general are very hot and March isn’t that far off.

Finally another newcomer and a list rarity, comedian Chelsea Handler appears at #10. Chelsea isn’t the rarity, just comedians in general, who don’t usually show up here. While she isn’t showing up at the Houston Rodeo, she is on tour nationwide through at least May.

1 1 Lady Gaga
2 4 Winter Games
3 2 Justin Bieber
4 8 New Orleans Saints
5 10 Super Bowl
6 - Houston Rodeo
7 - Jason Aldean
8 3 Taylor Swift
9 5 Monster Jam
10 - Chelsea Handler
