The Week in TicketCity Search – May 14th

Not what I would have expected, but Tool has reached the top. The alt-metal band’s tour doesn’t kick off until June, but interest has certainly spiked. Some of the earliest dates are around our area, so that may have something to do with it. Following them is Roger Waters, whose Wall Live tour doesn’t start until September but is nearly as hot. Fans are searching early for these tickets. Rounding out the top 3 is the WWE, who have never been hotter, literally, as this is the highest they’ve ever appeared on the countdown.

Things take a turn for the more familiar as the esteemed Mr. Bieber and Lady Gaga complete the the top 5 and usher us to Conan O’Brien at #6. His comedy tour hits Austin tonight, so this last minute surge is not unexpected. Adam Lambert tumbles from an impressive #1 last week, settling down at #7, just ahead of Carrie Underwood, who managed to gain a spot. Rush also tumbled, landing at #9 from #2 last week.

Finally, just like Tool and Roger Waters fans, it seems the Cowboys faithful are shopping early for tickets to the 2010 season. The Dallas team winds up at #10 this week, well ahead of when I’d be expecting to see some NFL presence on the list.

The Week in TicketCity Search – March 19th

The top 5 is interesting this week, with 2 newcomers arriving out of nowhere and Lady Gaga back on top by a big margin after a brief absence. She’s followed by the esteemed Mr. Bieber, who also regains some steam after stumbling down to 6 last week. Following them are our 2 new entrants, one a reunited band and another, well, not the college basketball tournament I would have expected at #4 this week.

First up is the Stone Temple Pilots. Since I’m not in high school anymore, this is no doubt a reunion of the band that first hit big in 1992. Indeed, the Stone Temple Pilots have returned from a hiatus that began in 2003, and are now working on a new album and playing SXSW. The latter tidbit probably explains their sudden popularity on this countdown.

The other newcomer is the NIT, or National Invitation Tournament. The NIT is a post-season tournament that’s now also run by the NCAA and where teams that did not make the more well known NCAA Tournament may be invited to play. According to the richly detailed Wikipedia article, this has caused some stigma to be attached to the NIT. Doesn’t mean there’s won’t some great basketball there, though.

The remainder of the countdown is more familiar, and where Taylor Swift stumbled to after a strong top 3 run. The Black Eyed Peas return and with Wrestlmania just over a week away the WWE hangs in there as well.

While March hasn’t yet been officially diagnosed with any mental disorders, the NCAA basketball conference tournaments figure heavily in this weeks countdown. The Big 12, Big East, and SEC all put in appearances as last minute shoppers jockey for seats to the championship games. Those opportunities are quickly evaporating, as Saturday brings the conference games to close and Sunday is the NCAA Tournament selection show. So, gentlemen, start your brackets… specifically the one to your left…

Taylor Swift did remain atop the countdown, and John Mayer surged a bit to #2. The esteemed Mr. Bieber put in his poorest performance in recent memory, dropping to the bottom five to join the WWE and a couple of countdown newcomers. The more notable of the two new entries to the countdown is, of course, Conan O’Brien, whose recently announced comedy tour is a very sudden, very big hit before the first show has even gone on the books.

The other countdown newcomer is the country music group Lady Antebellum, whom Wikipedia informs me is made up of 3 people, 2 of whom aren’t ladies at all. I have to say I find that a little disappointing. In any case, they’re playing both the Houston and Austin Rodeos in almost back to back performances, which is no doubt helping to fuel the interest on our site.
