The NCAA Tournament always has trouble making a big dent in the countdown until the end, when everyone can focus on that single, most evocative of phrases: Final Four. Easier than splitting attention among sixty-odd teams, for example. This year the Final Four is “up the road” from us in Arlington, so it has an even stronger advantage securing the #1 spot this week. While it easily defeated Eminem, it will be likely be a short-lived victory.

The remainder of the countdown is almost all new this week. Landing in third place is 5 Seconds of Summer. They’ve briefly appeared once before. Their April tour is only week and some change away from rolling through Dallas.

The MLB lands two spots on the countdown as we’ve just passed Opening Day. The Rangers secure forth place, while the Dodgers lag a little down in ninth place.

Miley Cyrus’ tour is in full swing, but Luke Bryan fans have to exercise a little patience until May. They’re joined by the more loyal Roemo Santos fans, who manage to keep him on the countdown for a second week in the row. Coachella pops up as the first of the two weekends is just one week away. Finally the announcement of a new tour and reunion with Christine McVie, Fleetwood Mac just makes it into tenth place.

10th place is good enough for a Fleetwood Mac video, because I don’t have to worry about content screening. Another one with Christine McVie on lead vocals, “Everywhere.” Bit more ambitious on the video side, with a setting and costumes that have a Shakespearean vibe. Not Shakespearean, though, the story is based on the narrative poem “The Highwayman” by Alfred Noyes. Yes, I looked that up on Wikipedia.

The Week in TicketCity Search – The Monster at the Gates

The Monster Tour dings the top spot this week, helped along with the announcement of additional dates in each of the three cities the duo of Eminem & Rihanna will be visiting this summer. The tour is short, and demand remains high even with the additional dates. Also filed under short-but-sweet, Lollapalooza rockets out of nowhere to capture the second spot. It shares something else in common with the Monster Tour, as Eminem will be headlining the first day.

March Madness slides into the countdown as the tournament reaches the Sweet Sixteen / Elite Eight stage. Just a week to go until the Final Four head to Dallas Cowboys Stadium to crown the champion. So, cross your fingers and hope to salvage a few charred bits of your bracket.

Tool had to make way for basketball, while the WWE had to make room for them both as they round out the top 5. One Direction rebounds a bit this week to land at number six. In at #7 is… wait… one sec…

Okay, after a brief detour through Wikipeida, we find Romeo Santos in seventh place. Mr. Santos, as I’m sure everyone knows, is the former lead singer of the group Aventura. Aventura has landed on the countdown a few times in the past, so he’s got a devoted fan base following along. Of similarly devoted fan bases, but with more avant-garde tastes in makeup, Kiss returns at #8. They’re on tour this summer with Def Leppard.

Hey, remember when Kiss didn’t wear the signature makeup for a few years? Amusingly the official Kiss Vevo channel on YouTube doesn’t want you to forget it. Most of the videos are from that period, including this somewhat random choice, “All Hell’s Breakin’ Loose”. I was going to pan the video for a gratuitous quasi-post apocalyptic setting. But then the chicks started fencing. Yes, fencing. No, I don’t know why, nor do I think the people who shot the video know why, but it was epic.

The Week in TicketCity Search – Lizzy’s Back, Tell A Friend

10 6 World Cup

Apparently my snide comments haven’t dampened the public’s enthusiasm for Lizzie. Granted, this is less obnoxious than the months the esteemed Mr. Beiber spent at the top. Though our new second place entry is certainly giving him a run for his money. It would seem there’s a lot of pent-up demand for a live performance by one Torrence Hatch, known professionally as Lil Boosie. That might have something to do with all those photos I found of him in a very fetching orange jumpsuit.

Tool is a veritable breath of fresh air as they ping-pong back to 3rd place this week, followed by the WWE. The McMahon carnival is moving on from the Lone Star State, so more likely than not, they will be moving on from the countdown pretty soon as well.

Eminem, and, by association, Rihanna, debut at #5 this week as tickets went on sale for the “Monster Tour.” It terms of scope, it’s a little less monstrous than the title implies. The duo will be doing only 3 concerts total, but they will be big stadium ones, in Pasadena, East Rutherford, and Detroit. Or, you know, LA, New York, and Detroit, were one to round-up geographically.

Houston Rodeo is winding down, though there’s still a few days of concerts left. People are also remembering that, theoretically, at least, George Strait isn’t going to be touring for much longer, so he returns to the list. The final tour dates run from March to June. One Direction suffers another setback, and the World Cup clings to #10 this week. Still a few months off, so expect to see stronger results as the games draw closer.

Since the coffee hasn’t kicked in yet, and another Lana tune would likely send me into a coma, let’s turn up the tempo with something from Rihanna instead. Thematically, this one dovetails nicely with the last tour update, as this is basically “Rihanna in a field.” It’s probably not the same field the Backstreet Boys were in, but I bet it’s close. Since it’s a Rihanna video, she doesn’t stick around too long, there’s a beach, some water, and then fireworks at night. The creative vision for it seemed to be: “let’s make a music video.”

10 6 Tool

The Houston Rodeo takes the top this week. The rodeo is officially underway, and fans have until the 23rd to see some of the biggest shows in Texas over the next couple weeks. Likewise in Texas, the WWE will be bouncing around the state next week, including a show here in Austin at the Frank Erwin Center tomorrow night.

Lana Del Rey returns to the countdown at #3 with the announcement of a longer US tour. She will be helping concertgoers with sleeping disorders with 16 new dates all over the country.

Maroon 5′s Houston Rodeo show didn’t quite achieve the same demand that Usher enjoyed last week, but it got them to #4.

In at #6 is the thing that’s a huge deal in pretty much every other country but the United States, the World Cup. Sunny Brazil hosts this year’s outing. The kicking of balls begins this June, but this is definitely one to shop for early, as Brazil is a little harder to get to than the average Lakers game. Travel packages anyone?

Luke Bryan hangs onto #7 and the ACC Tournament stays put at #8. Bruno Mars’ tour rolls on, and back to the countdown, while Tool’s brief climb to sixth place ends where it began, back at #10.

So, Lizzy’s back. Let’s see… title track to last’s year’s album, Born to Die. The new one, Ultraviolence, isn’t out yet but the tour announcement suggests it is probably on the way soon. I’m sure the title track is a sold choice, just have to make it through the video. Hmm, she’s sitting down, with tigers. Wow, sounds like she’s not really updated that torch-song tempo of old. I’m sure things will… <yawn> …pick up soon. Any second… zzz now… ZzzzzzZZZZZZZ….

10 - Texas Rangers

Some surprise and some variety in the countdown this week. Surprise: Usher. Head-scratcher? Less than might be imagined. He is playing the Houston Rodeo this very day, in fact. Apparently there is a bit of pent-up demand for a live Usher show in Houston. The WWE and their upcoming swing through Texas make it to second place, while One Direction finally returns to their favorite position, third.

The Houston Rodeo comes in at fourth, along with Rodeo performer Luke Bryan at fifth. Houston isn’t alone this week, as the Austin Rodeo squeezes into the ninth place. Houston and Austin run somewhat concurrently, but Houston is usually the bigger show.

Wicked returns after a long absence. I’m pretty sure the last time the show appeared on the countdown coincided with the last time it visited Austin, as it is doing once more. Performances at the Bass Concert Hall continue through this weekend, then it will bid Austin, and this countdown, farewell.

The sound of sharpening pencils slowly grows to a deafening roar as March Madness approaches. The ACC Tournament reminds us of this at #8 this week. The conference tournaments get underway next week followed by “Selection Sunday” on the 16th.

While ordinarily it would be pretty much a slam dunk to bring you an Usher video this week, I need to remind the readership that Mr. Raymond IV is the man who signed one Bieber, Justin. For that, there must be consequences. Those consequences are, so far, not getting a video in this blog post… and truckloads of money. So, I guess, 50/50 on that one.

So, dealer’s choice, here’s Fun. with “Some Nights”, about which everything is awesome:
