Another interesting line-up this week. The top five is almost completely unchanged, with one minor exception. Said exception is the Razorbacks and the Cowboys, who traded spots. The rest of the top 5 remains cozy in the same spots they’ve held for three weeks in a row, yet another rarity.

This week football forces out more concert performers. While I would have lost the bet that One Direction would stay on top the entire season, I would take the bet that they never leave the countdown completely between now and the 2013 tour. Even during bowls. Perhaps just as notable due to absence is the esteemed Mr. Bieber, who slipped pretty far out of the top 10 this week.

Team football brings three new entries in the bottom five, the Texans and Saints of the NFL, and Oklahoma State representing the collegiate side of things. Keeping things interesting we have comedian Kevin Hart, who’s been on tour for a while and looks to keep up the pace all the way through November.

Strange week, as over half the countdown hasn’t budged since last week. Probably a first, though I will admit I haven’t exactly been keeping track of that particular stat. My gut is telling me it’s unprecedented, and I’m going with it. This means the ‘Horns and the Bulldogs remain on top, followed by former champ One Direction.

I see now that the boys (from England) are on a bit of a break between tours, so this is no doubt why they’ve cooled off a tad. They are doing a couple shows between now and the the kick-off of the aptly named “2013 Tour” in… 2013. March, 2013, to be specific.

The Boys (from Dallas) return to the countdown this week, forcing a break in our holdovers from last week. They replace Real Madrid, who have finished up their US tour and are safely back in Spain now. Local Real Madrid fans (or anyone who can foot the travel bill) can still pick up from tickets from us for home games at Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.

Another group of countdown attendees content to remain in their place form the rich, nougaty center this week. Returning favorites sneak in below them, as The Boss pops into the #8 slot. Springsteen has been on tour most of the summer and isn’t slowing down for a while. There are many more arenas to be rocked between now and November.

The Crimson Tide made an early impact on the countdown in the run-up to football season but drifted away. They return this week, though just under the wire. The WWE is the only returning entry that changed places, though not in a good way. They drop from #8 to #10. With Summerslam this weekend, they may not be able to hold on next week.

1D remains perched atop the countdown, easily fending off challenges from all quarters. Mostly from the old guard and other “popular” musicians, but this week from America’s Team. The Cowboys surge from #5 this week, but that rush isn’t enough to score the top spot. As with most previous attempts, they fell pretty short of the goal in a performance that may have been worthy of a #1 were they not pitted against the all-encompassing power of five teenage boys from England.

That Bieber guy keeps hanging around for some reason, this week quietly climbing back to #3. College football is well represented this week, with the Longhorns slipping a bit to #4, Arkansas appearing in the #6 spot, and Mississippi State holding steady from last week at #8.

KISS, absent for some time despite touring pretty regularly this summer with Mötley Crüe, shows up in the fifth spot. They are swinging through Texas this weekend, so I’m betting that’s why.

Coldplay climbs to the #7 spot while Jason Aldean tumbles pretty hard from a peak in second to #9. Still not sure what caused Mr. Aldean’s sudden rocket ride (almost) to the top last week, but that ride has ended pretty conclusively. Finally, Real Madrid returns again as their US tour continues through early August. They’ll be back in Spain before the month is out, so get your tickets now.

Much like the silver medal in basketball at the Quadrennial International Amateur Warm Weather Sporting Competition recently underway in the capital of the United Kingdom, getting second place on the countdown is just as good as gold these days. 1D does not appear to be going anywhere, leaving Jason Aldean to clear that last hurdle and hit the #2 spot. This has been his best run in countdown history, and in other times, he’d have easily secured #1.

Football heats up this week as well, with the Longhorns moving up 2 spots to #3 and the Cowboys gaining a spot to round out the top 5. The Texans enter the countdown at #7, where Mississippi State made room for them by sliding to #8. That’s 40% of the countdown and we’re just about to August. NFL fans can enjoy preseason match-ups starting in just 2 weeks. College football fans have a little longer to wait, but September is right around the corner.

It would be remiss not to note Bieber Fever appears to be in complete remission, as he falls to #4.

The boys of summer aren’t done yet, and the Rangers reappear in the #6 spot this week. Also returning after an absence is Coldplay, who have drifted in and out this summer as their Mylo Xyloto Tour continues its major North American leg before returning to Europe at the end of August.

Finally, after an even longer absense, the WWE returns to the countdown. SummerSlam might be the reason for that, as it will land in the Staples Center for a 4th time in a row on August 19th.
