10 - SF 49ers

While my memory may be a little fuzzy at this point, I’m not sure anyone pulled off the 1-10-1 bounce before. America’s Team is certainly in a rather élite fraternity either way. I won’t even attempt to predict where they’ll end up next week.

In slightly more expected news, the Austin City Limits Festival drops in at #2. Somewhat appropriate, as there’s now 2x more of it than in previous years. Weekend One is one week away. If you miss that one, Weekend Two is, you guessed it, two weeks away. Headliners include hot new acts like Depeche Mode and The Cure. Which is what I would have said if it were 1980.

Luke Bryan bounces back, while Drake is one of the few who managed to hang around from last week. Beyonce, a former top 3 fixture, returns to lead off the bottom five. She is followed by the Knicks, who remind us that the NBA preseason starts in October.

Elton John’s new Vegas residency shows a spark of interest, while John Mayer’s fall tour makes the list at #9. Finally the 49ers return to slide into the spot the Cowboys left open this week.

Let’s pick a slightly more recent ACL headliner, Muse, who only hail from the 90s. Here is “Uprising”, otherwise known as the only Muse song you know:

The Week in TicketCity Search – North by Kanye West

10 1 Dallas Cowboys

It must be the middle of September, because the pigskin’s brief grasp of the countdown is slipping away. Not to say there’s not a decent amount of gridiron action to be had. The Texans gain momentum and reach 4th, but that’s the best any football team can hope for this week. It is the very busy Maroon 5 who tops the list.

Fresh off a summer tour, Maroon 5 took a brief nap and are back out there once more on the Honda Civic Tour, with Kelly Clarkson and Rozzi Crane. The latter individual has not been deemed notable enough to have her own Wikipedia entry, so your guess is as good as mine about why she’s there.

Kanye, obviously justifying my faith in him last week, makes the 8 point jump to second place. He added some additional shows to the new tour as many sold out quickly. Impressive, but part of me wonders if everyone is going in hopes of catching one of those increasingly more common rants live and in person.

Drake and LSU both remain where they were last week, while the Bengals kick off the bottom five with their inaugural countdown appearance this season. They’re followed by Luke Bryan and the returning Pink, who is not close to winding down The Truth About Love tour. She’s followed by Depeche Mode, whose appearance in Dallas today may have something to do with this bit of countdown success.

Finally, the Cowboys take the big tumble from one end of the countdown to the other.

Here is The Artist Currently Known as Rozzi Crane joining that élite fraternity (of everyone, ever) that covered Gnarls Barkley’s “Crazy.”

The Week in TicketCity Search – Maybe Next Time, Drake

Football rules once more this week. The Cowboys make a hail mary play that pays off, reaching the top, followed by the 49ers. Also returning this week are the Tigers of LSU, though they are the only representatives of college football to make it from the previous week.

Concerts reassert some dominance this week, with Drake landing in third place. His amusingly named “Would You Like a Tour” is going strong, with over forty dates left between now and December.

Really late US Open shoppers managed to push it back to the top five from only a few days worth of searches. In the record books now, Nadal puts another Grand Slam under his belt.

Luke Bryan returns after a break, and Justin Timberlake fell pretty hard from #2 to land at #9. He’s pretty limber, I’m sure he landed just fine. Finally, down at #10, Kanye himself arrives with the announcement of The Yeezus Tour. Kendrick Lamar will be tagging along on most of the tour, which currently comprises almost 30 dates between October and December.

Technically, I suppose I should put Drake in there since he’s the biggest new entry, but I fear Kanye would be cross with me if I did. So, here’s “Power.”

10 - Notre Dame Football

What a difference two weeks makes. Only two survivors and even more football. The latter isn’t especially surprising considering the season. Football season proper ushers in this week, after all. The Saints come out on top, with the 49ers moving up to third place, and the Cowboys landing in sixth place.

On the college side, the Horned Frogs of TCU come in fifth place, followed by LSU in seventh and Notre Dame in tenth. This may be the first time the Fighting Irish have shown up in a top 10. 2012 took them all the way to the BCS, and this year they’ll be looking to return for a win this time around.

It’s not all pigskin this week. Justin Timberlake manages to secure the second spot, and Pink returns to grab the fourth spot. The US Open’s last full week grabs eight place. The championship rounds run through Monday and there are tickets still available.

With Pink back, why not welcome her with this week’s video selection? Here’s her last #1 single “Just Give Me a Reason”, featuring Nate Ruess. When not hanging with Pink, Nate fronts the band fun. When the band’s name is written at the end of a sentence, the period pulls double duty.

The Week in TicketCity Search – Touchdown, Luke Bryan

Its beginning to look a lot like football season,
mascots in ev’ry slot.
But the prettiest sight to see are the tickets that will be
at your own front door.

Okay, not “ev’ry,” but I had to round a bit for the song parody to work. It is over half, so I’ve got the math on my side. Which is strange, because math and I generally do not get along well at all.

After weeks of near misses, Luke Bryan reaches the apex of his music career, capturing the top spot on the TicketCity Week in Search. The football shake-up leaves a number of previous contenders nowhere to be found. 1D missed the top completely for the first time in months while last week’s champ, Bruno Mars, conquered and departed.

Who were the pigskin favorites this week? The NFL’s usual suspects, the Texans and Cowboys, are joined by the 49ers, while on the college side, Mississippi State climbs even higher, and pulls along Auburn, Arkansas, and Texas. None of these teams are strangers to the top 10 from seasons past.

In between the football frenzy, former champ Taylor Swift returns with a solid landing at #4. The clock is ticking on the Red Tour. Fans have until the end of September to see the show live.

While the thought crossed my mind to rock the Perry Como with the original “It’s Beginning to Look a lot Like Christmas”, that would be a bit unfair to Mr. Bryan’s achievement this week. So here’s the video for “Crash My Party.” Yes, there are pickup trucks and flannel shirts.
