Taylor Swift returns to the top spot this week, where she dominated a few months ago but was exiled when BeyoncĂ© blew away the competition. Swift’s return to the top only illustrates the staying power of 1D, who have rarely been out of the top 3 in that entire time. As each new big summer tour is announced, they’ve seen a lot of number ones come and go, but consistently remained a favorite.

At #3, Pink steadily gained ground over the past few weeks. Once milling about in the bottom five, she has, indeed, come up, thus the top five is obligated to commence partying. She’ll be taking The Truth About Love Tour overseas for most of the summer, hitting Europe and Australia before returning to the States next fall. Sad she’s leaving just as the party is getting started.

Also on the rebound, the esteemed Mr. Bieber returns to somewhat familiar territory, having spent a few weeks in the bottom five. Maroon 5 also jumps up a notch, rounding things out this week.

Rihanna enjoys a big jump as well. Looks like everyone is doing great this week. Right? Bruno? Oh…

The Heat pop in with some bad news about that whole ‘streak’ thing, and George Strait returns as well. You’ve got almost exactly 1 month at this point to get into the Alamodome and check out the last concert of this leg of The Cowboys Rides Away Tour. Appearances between then and 2014 may be scarce.

My cunning plan to miss a weekly update a hope this One Direction thing died down a bit has failed. For the record, they won last week too. Hopefully that’s the biggest surprise you experience this week. The Derby peaked at #2, as the festivities are under way today with the Oaks and the big race itself is tomorrow. TicketCity has a team in Louisville so all you very, very last minute shoppers still have a chance to get in on the most exciting two minutes in sports.

The Rangers leapt up the list, ending up at #4 and providing the only other sports event this week.

For all practical purposes we’re in the big summer concert season already. While the box office is pleased with the boy band from England, there’s big tours roaming all over. Roger Waters “Wall Live Tour” passed through Austin, boosting him to #5 this week.

The bottom five is all new, all concerts, kicking off with Tom Petty, who is drifting through Austin tomorrow night. Coldplay, Dave Matthews Band, and Drake are also Texas bound but you’ve got some time to get your tickets for all those shows in Dallas and Houston.

The Week in TicketCity Search – September 10th

You may not have noticed, but I didn’t post this last Friday. So today we have two lists. Exciting, I know, so let’s dive right in.

Football season gets into full swing with both regular season NFL and NCAA games. That means our usual concert heavy list has been taken over by large men with shoulder pads. If this was the 80′s, then most of the female concert performers would at least have those in common with the football players. For two weeks in a row our local football team has topped the list, dethroning the esteemed Mr. Bieber. Yes, he may have 3% of Twitter’s entire network capacity devoted to him, but even he can’t stay on top in the first month of football season.

Still ongoing, the US Open mills about in the middle of the list. While the Dallas Cowboys are the only NFL team with enough juice to make and remain on the list in the midst of high levels of college football interest. Of the college football teams that find favor, no surprise that schools from the SEC and Big 12 are heavily represented.

The concert performers that mange to fill in the cracks between football teams have been bouncing around quite a bit the past few weeks. Last week, Eminem managed to find a spot in the lower 5, while this week 3 bands that constantly warp in and out of the list appear once more, Dave Matthews Band, Phish, and Rush.

The countdown is certainly seeing a lot of movement over the past month. Another week where only the top 5 sees any survivors from the previous week. In a return to form, concert performers regain all top 3 spots, with Rush bouncing back to #2 and Lady Gaga recovering from her fall to regain the #3 slot. That leaves local favorite the Longhorns to take #4 as the only college team to return from the previous week.

Rounding out the week’s top five is Jersey Boys, in a rare appearance from a Broadway show that isn’t Wicked. Likely this is because a touring production of the show is currently playing in our home town of Austin over at Bass Concert Hall. I’ve helpfully linked our local page in the top 10 list so only Austin Jersey Boys shows will appear. Feel free to take a break from football fever and take in a little of the legitimate theatre.

The Razorbacks lead off the bottom 5, in a light week for college football. Drake appears again, after disappearing the previous week. At this point I’m just wishing Drake fans would develop some consistency. Dave Matthews and his eponymous Band appear at #8, joining Kiss in a block of performers who commonly appear and disappear in the rankings.

Finally, the US Open appears on the radar as we near the first serve of the 2010 tournament, now down a Serena Williams. It’s a long tournament, so ample time to get some choice seats to all the action at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

The Week in TicketCity Search – July 30th

By a squeaker this week Gaga returns to the top of the countdown. It was very close. Almost had to check for hanging chad. How’s the decade old humor working for you? While the top 2 spots haven’t changed much for months, the number three this week goes to the WWE, who spent a lot time in our backyard recently. They’re on their way to other markets, so probably won’t be figuring so strongly in the countdown next week.

The big ManU tour culminated in a game against the “MLS All-Stars”, pushing MLS into the top 10 this week. It was between them and searches for Manchester United directly, so I give it them this week. Rounding out the top 5 is Drake, who has joined the populous fraternity of countdown entrants who appear and disappear from one week to the next.

Leading off the lower 5 is John Mayer, who has been touring most of the summer and made a few appearances on the countdown. Following him is the Jonas Brothers, who have not posed any threat to the esteemed Mr. Bieber’s dominance of the top 2 spots. I wondered a while back if they would, and that question has been answered with a resounding ‘no.’ The initial pop for Dave Matthews Band has cooled a bit, as they fall from 3 to 9, leading to the Dallas Cowboys who sneak in at #10 this week as the NFL preseason rapidly approaches.
