Iron Maiden

I think this may qualify as the most changed top 10 ever. 60% of our entries weren’t there last week, some completely new, some old favorites whose time has come again. The top 5 returns to complete concert dominance, with the Lady at the top for a second consecutive week in a row. Despite some managerial hiccups, the esteemed Mr. Bieber remains at #2, while George Strait returns from a long absence.

Pearl Jam appeared, then vanished, and returns again at #4 along with George’s contemporary country compatriot, Taylor Swift at #5. The National Invitation Tournament (NIT) continues a pretty strong showing at #6. You guys know the actual NCAA Tournament is happening, like, right now… right? The Kentucky Derby makes its first 2010 appearance on the countdown at #7. There’s ample time to get seats for this year’s Derby and Oaks.

Jay Z appears after an absence not quite as long as George Strait’s, but a pretty big nonetheless. Our notable newcomer this week is Iron Maiden, another in a long line of venerable rock acts to put in an appearance here. The heavy metal mainstays are working on a new album entitled The Final Frontier and will hit the tour circuit this summer in support of the new album.

Again the quadrennial winter sports competition is the week’s winner by a huge margin, thanks to the many various ways people searched for it, though none included “quadrennial winter sports competition”, sadly. Elton John bolts to the top of the week’s concert performers, kicking the esteemed Mr. Bieber from the #2 slot down to 5, while Taylor Swift held steady at #3.

Entering the chart at #4 is Chromeo, whom Wikipedia informs me is an “electrofunk” duo from Montreal, Canada consisting of “Dave 1″ and “P-Thugg”. In doing so, Wikipedia is also subtly informing me that I am getting old. Chromeo played a gig in Vancouver during those aforementioned games, which probably lead the spike in interest. Right now we don’t list any more events, but Chromeo fans can sign up to receive updates if more become available.

The Black Eyed Peas drop back into the countdown at #6 after a short break, followed by John Mayer who has shown some staying power over the past few weeks. This week’s other new entry is Calibash, which is a concert put together by Los Angeles radio station Latino 96.3. Again, no tickets are up right now, but keep checking back.

The Week in TicketCity Search – February 19th

This week the Games handily fend off the challenge from the WWE, though the later remains in the top 5. The Games reached #1 by a huge margin, probably the widest yet seen when all 8+ of the various terms used to search were added together. I do that regularly, though in this case a top 10 list of basically the same entry repeated with different names may have been an amusing diversion. Have maintain some standards, though. The remainder of the top 5 include the usual suspects, capped off by the esteemed Mr. Bieber.

With the loss of the Super Bowl and the All-Star Game, the lower 5 gets mixed up a bit. Starting off is a newcomer to the list but hardly to the concert-going public: Elton John. He’s been on tour solo and playing some dates with fellow “pianoman” Billy Joel over the past few months. Both fine choices in pop piano, though Hornsby was always my favorite, at least back when was playing pop piano.

Monster Jam returns to the list after being absent, and rounding things out is the SEC Basketball Tournament. The SEC is always one of the most popular conferences as far as championships are concerned. TicketCity has tickets to all the major conference tournaments, SEC included. All these are merely the appetizers to the main course, March Madness itself and the run-up to the Final Four.
