For some reason one of my clearer recollections of the 90s was catching an MTV News “Breaking” report about Fleetwood Mac disbanding. It’s not like I’m any huge Fleetwood Mac fan, either. Nice band, of course, but I’m not some die hard… um, I don’t know what die hard Fleetwood Mac fans are called, so I really can’t be one.
Still, there it is, clear as day, the anchor announcing in somewhat “ho-hum” tones that Fleetwood Mac was no more. I can’t fault them, as it’s not like Fleetwood Mac was an airplay staple at the time. Heck, it was the 90′s, when music in general stopped being an airplay staple on MTV.
The band’s little “hiatus” didn’t really last all that long. Most of the band, minus Christine McVie, has been together throughout the last decade. Their last tour was in 2009. 2013 marks the 35th anniversary of the Rumors album, currently one of the best selling albums of all time. They recently announced a 34 city tour to celebrate the anniversary.
