Concerts have the upper hand this week, with a 6-4 edge. It’s really 7-3, since the Houston Rodeo makes it to the list on the strength of their concert line-up this year, which features Lady Antebellum, John Legend, ZZ Top, Train, and Alan Jackson, among many others. At the top is Drake, who enjoys a strong jump from the fifth spot last week. He dethrones Van Halen, though they were a close #2.

The Super Bowl surges back to the third spot, followed by country sensation Jason Aldean. Aldean is on tour and will be stopping by the Houston Rodeo as well. The Heat round out the top 5 after a single digit loss.

In the bottom five we find monster trucks and Justin Beiber, who returns after a longer than usual absence. No new tour has been announced, but he is apparently working on a new album (Believe), so a new tour will likely not be far behind.

Rounding things out Tool slip a couple spots to #9 while Radiohead appears at #10. They’ll be in the US for just over a month, so don’t wait to get your tickets.

Bigger shifts this week as all the conference level college basketball tournaments play out. This little appetizer to March Madness “proper” posted two entries, the Big 12 Tournament and the Big East Tournament. The SEC Tournament, in case anyone was wondering, was #11. The selection show for the NCAA Tournament is this Sunday. TicketCity will have some extended hours to accommodate buyers who want to get tickets once the teams are announced.

The esteemed Mr. Beiber remains in the #1 spot, while Gaga climbs up a couple spots at the expense of the departed Adele and Taylor Swift. Swift hung in there, but dropped to #7. While one might think the Houston Rodeo, arriving at #4, is sporting related, the major attraction are the concerts that happen every night. Still some big names to go, ranging from KISS to Alan Jackson.

Arcade Fire debuts on the countdown at #5. The… let’s see… one… two… three… um, there’s more… five… six… eight! The eight member Canadian indie rock band from Montreal recently won the Grammy for Album of the Year for The Suburbs. They have a pretty crowded touring schedule starting up in April.

Rounding out the list the Wresltmania-bound WWE falls a few spots to #8, and Lil Wayne takes a big stumble from #2 to #9. Bon Jovi sneaks back into the countdown at the end.

Which Rodeo Has A Better Musical Set, Houston or San Antonio?

Between the Houston Rodeo and its San Antonio counterpart, country music and pop fans can get their fill of live music for the whole year!  Among the headliners in Houston are Trace Adkins, Selena Gomez, Sugarland and Miranda Lambert. San Antonio also as Lambert, as well as Train, comedian Bill Engvall and Reba McEntire. They’re a month apart, but if you had to choose one of them for a free all-access passes, which would it be?

While March hasn’t yet been officially diagnosed with any mental disorders, the NCAA basketball conference tournaments figure heavily in this weeks countdown. The Big 12, Big East, and SEC all put in appearances as last minute shoppers jockey for seats to the championship games. Those opportunities are quickly evaporating, as Saturday brings the conference games to close and Sunday is the NCAA Tournament selection show. So, gentlemen, start your brackets… specifically the one to your left…

Taylor Swift did remain atop the countdown, and John Mayer surged a bit to #2. The esteemed Mr. Bieber put in his poorest performance in recent memory, dropping to the bottom five to join the WWE and a couple of countdown newcomers. The more notable of the two new entries to the countdown is, of course, Conan O’Brien, whose recently announced comedy tour is a very sudden, very big hit before the first show has even gone on the books.

The other countdown newcomer is the country music group Lady Antebellum, whom Wikipedia informs me is made up of 3 people, 2 of whom aren’t ladies at all. I have to say I find that a little disappointing. In any case, they’re playing both the Houston and Austin Rodeos in almost back to back performances, which is no doubt helping to fuel the interest on our site.

The Week in TicketCity Search – January 22nd

As the conference championships are this weekend, not surprisingly the NFL made a stronger play for the top this week, moving into the top 5 but only barely. Lady Gaga remains on top, while Mr. Bieber slips a bit to make room for something I’ve yet to talk about despite its being on the countdown for a 3rd week now. That would be the large international snow and ice related competition occurring in the 3rd largest city in Canada. You know, the city where Mulder and Scully spent many seasons pretending it was every place in America.

Taylor Swift tumbles a bit from the top five, where she ends up next to fellow country star and list newcomer Jason Aldean. Jason has been touring in support of his Wide Open album, which was released in April 2009. He will be appearing in the list’s #6 entry, The Houston Rodeo, as will the esteemed Mr. Bieber. Houston Rodeo shows in general are very hot and March isn’t that far off.

Finally another newcomer and a list rarity, comedian Chelsea Handler appears at #10. Chelsea isn’t the rarity, just comedians in general, who don’t usually show up here. While she isn’t showing up at the Houston Rodeo, she is on tour nationwide through at least May.
