10 7 Bon Jovi

The top three remain the same, though not in the same order this week. How many weeks to come is really the only question at this point. With the wind (of announcing 30 new tour dates) at his back, the esteemed Mr. Bieber returns to the top spot. It remains to be seen how long this taste of former glory will last. The extension of the Believe Tour is a good sign the severity of Bieber Fever hasn’t ebbed too much.

The Knicks make an appearance on the countdown. Best I can figure is the game against Rockets this week where one Jeremy Lin returned to MSG. Bieber Fever may still be infectious, but it appears medical science was able to find a cure for Linsanity.

The Cowboys hold steady at #5, as playoff hopes stay alive.

The BCS kicks off the bottom five as the only bowl game survivor. It’s followed by a new face on the countdown, though not in music in general: Fleetwood Mac. The band is going on tour again in 2013 for the 35th anniversary of the Rumors album. As it is still one of the best selling albums of all time, that’s a pretty good excuse.

Well, that’s it for this year. I’ll be back next year, hope it goes well for all our readers.

Not a lot of change in the top five this week. Of course, the biggest is the ACL Fest, expectedly, dropping from the top spot and landing at #5. That showing is mostly on the strength of last weekend’s searches. While you’ve got a while until the next ACL, you’ll have more chances to get there. They announced, like Coachella, they’ll be doubling up and doing two weekends instead of one next year.

George Strait was the big winner this week, putting those young whippersnappers in their place as he climbs over them from #6 last week. His latest, and last, tour is generating a lot of buzz.

The aforementioned whippersnappers both gain a spot from the ACL drop, with the touring Bieber maintaining the same slim lead over 1D he’s had for a few weeks now.

The bottom five is all sports, mostly college football. The Tigers put in an appearance as they steamroll the Yankees on their way to a berth in The World Series, their first since 2006. Over in the NL, St. Louis could settle things tonight and make the match-up official. Either way, the World Series will be underway October 24th.

It was not a close one this week, as ACL dominated the competition, winning by a very comfortable margin. The first set of performances are now on the books as I’m writing this, so the “last minute” surge was not unexpected. The temperatures this weekend will be positively pleasant (by our usual standards), but you may want to be ready for some precipitation. If you ask me, I’d rather be damp due to rain than sweltering in the heat.

The big TX-OU weekend dovetails with ACL this year, but the surge the Longhorns experienced wasn’t enough to knock the festival out of the top spot. We’ll have a team out at the Cotton Bowl for late ticket purchases, so there’s still time to make it in.

The (not really) eternal battle of the teen pop titans continues this week, with Bieber still in the lead. He has the slightly unfair advantage of actually being on tour at the moment while One Direction isn’t quite so active at the moment.

The bottom five provides a few changes of pace. George Strait is one of them. He’s been away for a while but is back with a new tour, and fans would be wise to catch it. Strait announced he’s retiring and The Cowboy Rides Away Tour will be his last. He’s providing fans with two years to get in to see his farewell, as it’s not scheduled to end until 2014.

While MLB can fly under the radar for a while during football season, the playoffs general make an impact on the countdown. The Orioles get the honors this week as they battle the Yankees to move onto the ALCS against Detroit. That contest will be decided today.

Top 2 remain unchanged yet again this week. A strong run for both teams. As if to remind us they can’t be counted out yet, One Direction boomerangs back to the #3 spot after falling into the bottom five last week. In doing so they kick last week’s entries down a notch. The Cowboys and Kevin Hart both fall one place, rounding out the top five.

Some very familiar faces return this week to the bottom five, though we kick off with a little variety in college football. This week it’s the Volunteers of that other “UT”. The Razorbacks were the victim of One Direction’s return, making room from them in the top five and taking over the #7 spot they vacated. Similar to 1D, the esteemed Mr. Bieber reminds us he, too, may not be counted out just yet, reemerging fairly quickly to assume the #8 spot this week..

Also returning, The Boss appears at #9. Springsteen’s tour has drifted in and out of the top ten ever since it began. Not one to shy away from a heavy touring schedule, his Wrecking Ball Tour continues through at least December, though chances are it may go on even longer. There’s been no shortage of interest in the veteran rocker’s show, and he continues to sell out venues worldwide.

Football cleans up easily this week. Securing the top 3 spots and 70% of the countdown real estate, it certainly seems things are well underway. Both regular season NFL and college games have officially begun, and our top 2 have officially been unchanged for a month now. Things did wobble a bit this week, as the Cowboy faithful push The Boys to #3.

During a tough week, Kevin Hart turned in an impressive showing to land in the #4 spot, beating even One Direction, who fell to #7. Interestingly, both were at the VMA’s this week, with Hart hosting and 1D performing. The UK boy band took home a few spacemen in the process. One of them commented they’d “grown up watching this show.” Now I feel old, thanks. Hart will be back on the road soon after the VMA gig, starting later this month in Indianapolis.

Staggering in a little late to the party is the US Open, which is quite nearly over. The championships will all be played this weekend, barring weather of the inclement variety. The Open had been ongoing for over a week now, but hadn’t cracked the top 10. News that this would be former Open champion’s Andy Roddick’s final tournament before retiring may have helped boost interest.
