10 - Boston Bruins

The top three returns to normal, as 1D, Bieber, and Swift band together to lay down some “you shall not pass!” to this week’s top three challengers. Those include the The giant, hulking mass of The Big Game. This is a LOTR crowd right? Right?

George Strait’s shooting star falters a bit on the way to the top, falling to #5 this week. Still a strong showing, considering the rest of the countdown. No doubt longtime fans will be keeping his shows packed as this is their last chance to see him on a big tour.

Ed Sheeran climbs a couple spots to usher in the bottom five. His solo dates have heated up ahead of hopping on board Taylor Swift’s Red Tour. Ed is a busy man, between both tours he will be on stage for most of 2013.

Luke Bryan and Jason Aldean provide some additional country flavor to the countdown this week, as do most, if not all, the performers that will be filling the AT&T Center in San Antonio this February. There some OneRepublics and REO Speedwagons to add variety to the proceedings in SA.

Finally the Rangers are out and the Bruins are in for this week’s NHL team. It appears the NY/Boston rivalry has broken out here as well.

9 - Miami Heat
10 2 Jason Aldean

After all those months, Mr. Bieber regains the crown only to lose it a week later. It falls to none other than arch boy band rival, One Direction. An unexpected reversal of fortune, especially considering 1D still hasn’t started up their 2013 Tour. Spoiler Alert: it starts in 2013. Maroon 5 enjoys some good fortune of their own, riding the buzz of their tour announcement to the #2 spot.

Fresh off her own tour announcement is Taylor Swift. The Red Tour starts up next spring and rolls right on through summer. It features England’s newest folk-pop sensation, Ed Sheeran, as the opening act. Major buzz on this tour propels Swift to the #5 spot this week, and probably higher next week.

The USGP starts off the bottom five, dropping one spot, followed by George Strait, who turns around last week’s dive and climbs back to the #7 spot. Late season Cowboys fans are putting in some effort, bringing the team back to the #8 slot.

The Heat show up to remind us the NBA season has begun. After clenching the title last year, they’ve got momentum going into this season and are favorites to put another one on the mantle. There’s a lot of basketball between them and the Finals, though, and we’ve got tickets to almost all of it.

Ah, now we’re getting some variety in the countdown. With ACL done and college football season heading into the “slow” month, we see some new (relatively) faces appearing. At the top, though, is the very familiar countenance of the esteemed Mr. Bieber, who retakes his crown after spending many a month in exile.

He’s followed by Jason Aldean, whose tour is moving through our backyard, so I’m pretty sure that’s how he pulled an “out-of-nowhere” landing a #2. Miss St. drops to #3 and 1D holds steady at #4.

Very new and in at #5 is the United States Grand Prix. New to Austin, the inaugural racing weekend gets underway November 16th, culminating in the USGP on the 18th. The brand new Circuit of the America hosts the event, and we will have more on the track soon.

Also new, and starting off the second half of the countdown, is Maroon 5, who just released the North American dates for their Overexposed Tour. Along for the ride are Neon Trees and Owl City. The tour begins next February and currently runs for around 32 dates, though that could be extended.

The World Series enters at #7, and Phish return at #8. George Strait suffers a big drop, 8 spots down to the very bottom this week.

While I’m pretty sure it’s the first time they’ve been on the countdown, it’s certainly not the first time the Rolling Stones have been on the road. Debuting at #9 this week, they’ve been at it for 50 years. Called the 50 and Counting Tour, these dates are celebrating that golden anniversary.

9 - Alabama Football
10 5 Kevin Hart

Shake-up in the top ten this week as the cracks in football’s grasp on the countdown widen. The Longhorns lose the top spot after a solid run, replaced by Mississippi State, who had been #2 for the majority of that same run. The fight appears to be on one more in the teen pop arena. I’d say I’m having flashbacks to “last summer”, but it’s still that same summer for the next twelve hours.

Rounding out the top five is the ACL Festival, which returns with a few weeks to go before showtime on October 12th. This year’s headliners include the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jack White, and Florence + The Machine. There’s a lot more bands there, many of whom I’m sure are hoping to be in 22.2px Verdana at the top of this page someday.

Oklahoma State anchors the bottom five this week, reminding us that football season is still pretty young. They are joined by Alabama. The Crimson Tide is new to the countdown this season, though no stranger to the countdown from seasons past. The SEC usually figures pretty prominently each year.

Jason Aldean peaks in yet again. Aldean has been phasing in and out of the countdown for months now. With football fever subsiding a bit, he may be able to hang around longer now. Kevin Hart falls sharply, but just manages to hang onto the countdown at #10.

9 7 Jason Aldean
10 - Oklahoma State Football

Another interesting line-up this week. The top five is almost completely unchanged, with one minor exception. Said exception is the Razorbacks and the Cowboys, who traded spots. The rest of the top 5 remains cozy in the same spots they’ve held for three weeks in a row, yet another rarity.

This week football forces out more concert performers. While I would have lost the bet that One Direction would stay on top the entire season, I would take the bet that they never leave the countdown completely between now and the 2013 tour. Even during bowls. Perhaps just as notable due to absence is the esteemed Mr. Bieber, who slipped pretty far out of the top 10 this week.

Team football brings three new entries in the bottom five, the Texans and Saints of the NFL, and Oklahoma State representing the collegiate side of things. Keeping things interesting we have comedian Kevin Hart, who’s been on tour for a while and looks to keep up the pace all the way through November.
