Bruno Mars returns big this week, winning over the very event that gave him something of a bump. Fresh off the Super Bowl halftime show, the second leg of the Moonshine Jungle Tour is red hot. He didn’t even get paid for that gig (which wasn’t a big deal, no one ever does). Those last-minute Super Bowl searches last week weren’t able to secure the top spot from its very own halftime star. Yet again in 3rd, One Direction bides their time.

Katy slips to #4 thanks to the run on Bruno, and Mötley Crüe rounds out the top 5. They’re hitting the countdown for what promises to the last time, at least if you believe the press releases. Mötley Crüe embarks on “The Final Tour” this summer, after which they will officially retire. Forever. Or at least as long as they can make a living from solo projects. Their umlauts will be retired in a separate ceremony.

The WWE slips to #6, while one William Martin Joel returns to #7 this week. His spring touring dates are the most he’s done in quite some time. Once they’re done, Joel fans will have the opportunity to see him once a month at Madison Square Garden “indefinitely”. Kind of like a Vegas residency, just not in Vegas, and with a lot fewer shows, and possibly in a way that suggests his entire career up to that point is not a setup for the punchline that is “Vegas Residency.”

Rounding out the top ten are three dudes in cowboy hats.

Tough week for a video. Just posted Bruno, and I think I’ve already found the least-objectionable Mötley Crüe video and posted it with the tour announcement. So more Joel on tap. How ’bout getting your Friday off to hi-energy start with “Piano Man”!

The Week in TicketCity Search – The Houston Rodeo Has Bands, Literally

10 - Jason Aldean

George wins the week, with 1D falling to #3 thanks to a little more football fever. The Seahawks bid for the NFC championship shoots them to second place. They have home field advantage against the Niners this Sunday. Still time to pick up tickets to the game if you’re going to be in The 206 this weekend. Spoiler alert, there is a chance of rain. Those looking a little deeper into the playoffs pushed the Super Bowl up #6 this week.

Coachella gains three to land at #4. I suspect it will depart soon, as the actual shows are still a few months off. The post-announcement honeymoon is coming to a close. Familiar faces return this week, chief among them Luke Bryan. He is joined by countdown favorites Justin Timberlake and Jason Aldean a little further down the list.

The Houston Rodeo make this year debut in the seventh spot as the full concert schedule dropped this week. As usual, big names abound, including the aforementioned Mr. Bryan as well as the Eli Young Band, Usher, Maroon 5, Robin Thicke, and Keith Urban. Brad Paisley gets things started on 4th, and the Zac Brown Band will close things out on the 23rd.

Almost closing out the Houston Rodeo is The Band Perry, who will be performing on the 22nd of March. If you’re counting, and I am, that’s three “Bands” in the lineup this year. Instead of posting the insufferable promo video of them doing the Houston Rodeo line-up announcement, let’s just watch a video. This video is, I’ll say… “inspired by” the game of chess. Raises some questions about the artistic director’s familiarity with the fan base. On the other hand, it’s people running at either and then punching, so maybe I take that back.

9 6 Jason Aldean
10 - Denver Broncos

More survivors this week, and a small shuffle at the top. George Strait’s dream of a long stay in first place ended a bit early. He does end up at a very respectable #3, giving up the top spot to Drake, who returned only last week. The Cowboys also return. Their choppy run this year on the countdown is certainly different from previous years, though overall I believe they’ve been on the countdown more thanks to it.

Pearl Jam climbs to #4 and Kanye returns to the #5 spot. Bad news for Kanye fans, though, as he’s had to postpone some tour dates as the 60-foot circular LED screen used in the show was damaged in a highway accident while on the way to the Vancouver show. Anyone who thinks you can perform without a custom-made 60-foot circular LED screen simply doesn’t have the music in their, like, soul, man.

The 49ers’ solid run continues. While they’ve not really reached the top, they’ve been on the countdown for weeks now. The Heat return to remind us the NBA’s 2013-14 season is officially underway.

The National Finals Rodeo enters at #8 this week. The ten-day extravaganza of the best rodeo has to offer starts up December 5th at its usual home, The Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. I probably made the “When you think Las Vegas, rodeo is the first thing that comes to mind” joke every year at this point, so I’ll skip it this year.

Process of elimination suggests we’re going with Pearl Jam today. Their latest video and single is “Sirens.” The song holds up, but the video has a whiff of “not-trying” about it.

The Week in TicketCity Search – Widespread Changes

4 9 SF 49ers
5 - Baylor
6 - Jason Aldean
7 - Pearl Jam
8 - Justin Timberlake
9 - Widespread Panic
10 - Luke Bryan

No difference at the top, but the rest of the countdown experienced some big changes. George Strait holds down #1. It will be interesting to see if he can mount a One Direction-esque, months long stay at the top. Two weeks down, many more to go. Former number one Drake is knocking politely at that door as well, jumping one spot to second place.

The World Series drops in at #3. The Cardinals and the Red Sox are tied up at one game each, making game five a reality. Who will come out on top? I have no idea, fortunately we have others making far more educated guesses.

The 49ers, to use an inappropriate sports analogy, rebound to 4th place, where they are the final survivor of last week’s countdown. The shake-up, while major, didn’t deliver many completely new faces. This week’s college football entrant is Baylor, joined by the familiar faces of Jason Aldean, Peal Jam, JT, and Luke Bryan.

The one complete (I think) newcomer this week is Widespread Panic. They are playing ACL dates this weekend (the show, not the festival), so I’m pretty sure that’s what pushed them into the 9th spot. What can I say, the locals have a bit an affinity for jam bands.

Here they are doing a seven minute cover of a three-and-a-half minute song with a different song at the end. So, yeah, jam band…

4 - Super Bowl
5 2 George Strait
6 8 Ed Sheeran
7 6 Luke Bryan
8 - Jason Aldean
9 - San Antonio Rodeo
10 - Boston Bruins

The top three returns to normal, as 1D, Bieber, and Swift band together to lay down some “you shall not pass!” to this week’s top three challengers. Those include the The giant, hulking mass of The Big Game. This is a LOTR crowd right? Right?

George Strait’s shooting star falters a bit on the way to the top, falling to #5 this week. Still a strong showing, considering the rest of the countdown. No doubt longtime fans will be keeping his shows packed as this is their last chance to see him on a big tour.

Ed Sheeran climbs a couple spots to usher in the bottom five. His solo dates have heated up ahead of hopping on board Taylor Swift’s Red Tour. Ed is a busy man, between both tours he will be on stage for most of 2013.

Luke Bryan and Jason Aldean provide some additional country flavor to the countdown this week, as do most, if not all, the performers that will be filling the AT&T Center in San Antonio this February. There some OneRepublics and REO Speedwagons to add variety to the proceedings in SA.

Finally the Rangers are out and the Bruins are in for this week’s NHL team. It appears the NY/Boston rivalry has broken out here as well.
