The Week in TicketCity Search – August 20th

All the power of football season can’t keep the esteemed Mr. Beiber down for long. He returns to the top spot, followed by three of the biggest teams in pro and college football, including the Fighting Irish, who appear for the first time this season. The Buckeyes and Cowboys hang around from last week. Finally the Jonas Brothers make a strong show at #5. Their current tour is scheduled to hit Texas in mid-September so fans are doing some, well, second-to-last-minute shopping.

The Longhorns, who didn’t make the cut last week, show up again this week to kick off the bottom five. Similarly, Phish pops in randomly again, as they have been over the past few months, never hanging around for much more than a week. Rush drops to #8 from #4, hanging in for a 3rd week on the countdown. The fact that Lady Gaga is legging her way through Canada may be the reason she’s also tumbled from her customary spot in the top 3.

Finally we have our little local music show appearing at #10. According to the clock on the wall we’re about a month and a half out from this year’s festival, so not surprising to see interest start to bubble up. I’m sure it will be a common sight in the coming weeks. This year’s headliners include The Eagles, Muse, and M.I.A. Oh, and Phish, too. Maybe that’s why they keep popping up.

1 2 Justin Bieber
2 1 Dallas Cowboys
3 - Notre Dame Football
4 6 Ohio State Football
5 - Jonas Brothers
6 - Texas Football
7 - Phish
8 4 Rush
9 3 Lady Gaga
10 - ACL Fest

The Week in TicketCity Search – July 30th

By a squeaker this week Gaga returns to the top of the countdown. It was very close. Almost had to check for hanging chad. How’s the decade old humor working for you? While the top 2 spots haven’t changed much for months, the number three this week goes to the WWE, who spent a lot time in our backyard recently. They’re on their way to other markets, so probably won’t be figuring so strongly in the countdown next week.

The big ManU tour culminated in a game against the “MLS All-Stars”, pushing MLS into the top 10 this week. It was between them and searches for Manchester United directly, so I give it them this week. Rounding out the top 5 is Drake, who has joined the populous fraternity of countdown entrants who appear and disappear from one week to the next.

Leading off the lower 5 is John Mayer, who has been touring most of the summer and made a few appearances on the countdown. Following him is the Jonas Brothers, who have not posed any threat to the esteemed Mr. Bieber’s dominance of the top 2 spots. I wondered a while back if they would, and that question has been answered with a resounding ‘no.’ The initial pop for Dave Matthews Band has cooled a bit, as they fall from 3 to 9, leading to the Dallas Cowboys who sneak in at #10 this week as the NFL preseason rapidly approaches.

1 2 Lady Gaga
2 1 Justin Bieber
3 4 WWE
4 - MLS
5 - Drake
6 - John Mayer
7 8 Longhorns Football
8 - Jonas Brothers
9 3 Dave Matthews Band
10 - Dallas Cowboys

Apparently I missed the memo about the WWE enjoying an 80′s like Renaissance, or people in Austin really really want to check out the Memorial Day show at the Erwin Center. Either way, Vince and Co. have climbed to the top of the countdown ladder and secured the belt. This concludes our dose of subtly savvy professional wrestling references for this week. Their victory leaves the regulars in a bit of disarray, as the esteemed Mr. Bieber climbs to #2, Lady Gaga falls to 3, and Tool remains at 4.

In at #5 is the NCAA Lacrosse championships. Lacrosse-o-philes can still make it up to MT Bank Stadium in Baltimore to catch the finals on May 31st. Games are scheduled throughout the weekend leading up to the championship. The Lacrosse championships beat out championships in a couple other sports with much higher Q scores. That would be the Stanley Cup, in at #7 via the Blackhawks, and the World Cup, appearing at #8.

Country duo Brooks and Dunn make their debut on the countdown at #6. Good thing, since apparently The Last Rodeo Tour is their retirement tour. They’ll be playing US dates throughout the summer.

1 3 WWE
2 5 Justin Bieber
3 1 Lady Gaga
4 4 Tool
5 - NCAA Lacrosse
6 - Brooks and Dunn
7 - Chicago Blackhawks
8 - World Cup
9 10 Aventura
10 8 Jonas Brothers

The Week in TicketCity Search – May 21st

At least one thing has returned to “normal” on the countdown this week as Lady Gaga takes up residence at the top once more. Time will tell if the recent volatility in her rankings is over or if this is just another wild fluctuation. Fluctuating with her is Pearl Jam, who appear at #2 and coincidentally have a huge show at Madison Square Garden tonight. I’m pretty sure they will not be here next week.

The WWE holds steady at their peak #3 ranking, while Tool tumbled from the top down to #4, allowing the esteemed Mr. Bieber to cling to top 5 status. That brings us to #6 and the little local festival we have around here every fall. Yes, the ACL Line-up was announced, a little later than last year, which brought it to chart this week. Six is a little soft, actually, I expected it would have cracked the top 3. Come this fall, I’m sure it will be the dominating force it was last year.

Rounding out the countdown is on-again-off-again Drake, with returning favorites Michael Buble and Aventura, mixed in with none other than the Jonas Brothers. The JoBros have a summer concert tour planned that starts off in our general vicinity with shows in Dallas and San Antonio. It will be interesting to see if any real contest develops between the slightly more mature Jonas Brothers and current tween heartthrob Mr. Bieber.

1 5 Lady Gaga
2 - Pearl Jam
3 3 WWE
4 1 Tool
5 4 Justin Bieber
6 - ACL
7 - Drake
8 - Jonas Brothers
9 - Michael Buble
10 - Aventura
