It’s summer concert season and we’ve got a full list of concert performers for you this week. Nary a sporting event in sight. Have a month or so before college football heats up and (maybe) the NFL. Shooting right to the top is Adele, who climbed the chart reliably the past few weeks and has ended up on top. Her restarted tour is back, and tickets for her show at the Frank Erwin Center went on sale today. She takes some of the wind out of the esteemed Mr. Bieber’s sails in reaching the top, moving him down to #2, followed by Taylor Swift, who also had a really good week.

Jason Aldean and Katy Perry round out the top five, a big move up for the country star. Katy’s summer tour continues going strong, despite slipping a bit in the countdown this week. She makes for a good pop pair with Selena Gomez, who holds onto the #6 spot this week. ACL took a bit of a tumble to end this week at #7, where it makes way for our new and returning entries.

Debuting this week is A Perfect Circle. The recently reformed band has been touring on and off since 2010, though there are no plans to release a full album of new material, rather a few new songs. Finally, U2 and Sade end up the week in the #9 and #10 spots, both having been seen on the countdown on and off for months now. U2′s 360° Tour, which has been running since 2009 (with a break), finally comes to an end this week, so this will be your last chance to catch this unique concert event.

Interesting results this week. Looks like last weekend’s Davis Cup had enough enough searches to keep it on the board from Saturday and Sunday alone. ACL surged as we’re nearing the middle of summer and thoughts may be turning to plans for Fall. Well, what passes for Fall around here, at least. ACL is in mid-September this year, so that’s not even technically Fall, just the very end of summer.

Katy Perry jumped a spot to number three, leap frogging last week’s second and third entries. Taylor Swift still ended the week at a respectable number five, while the more recently minted pop star Miss Gomez also fell a spot to number six. Adele made big gains this week as her return to touring nears.

All this week’s new entries are neatly packaged at the end; a nice change from the usual “appearing out of nowhere” and “rushing right to the top.” First off is semi-regular Jason Aldean, who is on tour in support of his recent album My Kinda Party, and had some crossover success with his latest single “Dirt Road Anthem.” Team sports make an uncharacteristic appearance on the summer countdown, with the Phillies making the chart at number nine, and some early shoppers for college football season looking to snag some LSU football tix.

10 - Adele

Looks like I was wrong about the Davis Cup taking it this week. Hung in at third place, the tail end of the same top three we had last week. This is the weekend for international tennis action at the Erwin Center, and there’s still time to get tickets for the big show. Davis Cup ends up the only sporting event on the countdown this week as we’re in a bit of a dry spot before football season really gears up.

Climbing up to the fourth spot is Katy Perry, who is joined by Selena Gomez to round out the top five. Quite a bit of pop on the countdown. U2 provides a bit more rock flavor, and ACL returns to the list. ACL is still comfortably far away but prices will likely only rise as we get closer to the event.

Britney adds more pop to the list as she returns at number eight. The countdown does a couple hard turns at the end there, swinging way beyond pop with Mötley Crüe, who are celebrating 30 years of heavy metal and gratuitous umlauts in 2011. Finally, Adele’s soulful voice is getting ready to return to touring after taking a break due to a case of laryngitis.

9 10 Katy Perry
10 - Kenny Chesney

With the departure of the College World Series and the Gold Cup, the countdown is shaking up a little more than usual this week. While the tail end of the Gold Cup did manage to squeeze in at a respectable number six, its another Cup that’s fueling some excitement. The Davis Cup semi-final between the United States and Spain is just a week away. Still time to get tickets to one of the biggest tennis events in recent memory.

The rest of the top five returns to concerts, where last weeks’ second and third have stepped up to first and second. Maná rises higher again this week, as if buoyed by a well of arcane power, and U2 returns to the countdown in the fifth spot. Lil Wayne returns at number seven. His tour isn’t letting up, boasting a packed schedule all the way through September.

Ghostland Observatory’s schedule isn’t quite so packed, but that just means a bigger demand for seats. It shows as they return to the countdown at number eight. Katy Perry climbs one spot from last week, and, while Taylor Swift has been the only country star on the countdown for a while, Kenny Chesney slides into the number ten spot to give her a little company.

Gold fever this week, of the Cup variety. The CONCACAF Gold Cup reaches the final tomorrow at the Rose Bowl, after a impressive month of games all over the country. The US team will face Mexico in the final, the fifth time these two teams have reached the finals together and the third meeting in a row. The odds are stacked against the US, who is down three losses to one win against the Mexican team in the Gold Cup final.

The esteemed Mr. Bieber hangs onto the number two spot, while Taylor Swift surges back from the sixth spot to capture number three. The College World Series, which is still going strong, drops a bit to number four. The championship series will be held next week, providing ample time to secure your tickets to see who walks out of TD Ameritrade Stadium the new NCAA baseball champs.

There’s a long block of new and returning concert stars up next, starting with Eddie Vedder. The Perl Jam front man is on tour to support his recently released solo album: Ukulele Songs. He’s joined by Sade, returning after a bit of an absence. They’re on tour with their latest album, Soldier of Love, for most of the summer. Poof! Maná’s back! In at number seven, the latin rock quartet returns after a few weeks.

Also of note is the Davis Cup, which enters at number nine this week, and promises to climb a lot higher. The international tennis competition between the US and Spain at the Frank Erwin Center is exactly two weeks off, and tickets are in high demand.
