TicketCity Week in Search

Week of
Feb. 6th
1 Eddie Vedder
2 Madonna
3 2 Drake
4 Daniel Tosh
5 San Antonio Rodeo
6 4 Van Halen
7 7 Justin Bieber
8 1 Bruce Springsteen
9 Andrea Bocelli
10 Kentucky Derby

The Boss lost his top spot this week to the whims of a more recent generation, Eddie Vedder fans. Vedder and his ukulele are playing dates across the lower Lower 48 in April and May. Vedder’s touring in support of his recent solo release Ukulele Songs.

Classics abound this week, as Madonna secures the #2 spot, fresh off the Super Bowl half-time show. Her latest world-wide tour heats up this summer and fall. Madonna’s new album, MDNA, hits (some) shelves and (mostly) pod-like devices March 26th.

Drake slips to the third spot, while comedian Daniel Tosh and the SA Rodeo round out the top five. Van Halen kicks off the bottom five, slipping from the #4 spot last week. Beiber fans steadily checking for new concert dates keeps him safe at #7.

Rounding things out this week we have a boy named Andrea and the Derby. Looks like some early shoppers looking for deals for the big race in Louisville. Rest assured, you’ve still got a few months to secure your tickets and pick out your hat. Though if the Derby remains on the countdown the entire time, I will rapidly run out of hat jokes.

The Week in TicketCity Search – May 6th

TicketCity Week in Search

1 3 Kentucky Derby
2 4 Kentucky Oaks
3 7 Maná
4 2 Taylor Swift
5 5 Adele
6 1 Justin Bieber
7 - ACL Fest
8 - Britney Spears
9 - Arcade Fire
10 9 WWE

Small surprise in the top 5 this week. Not surprising is the Derby topping the list, with the Oaks right behind. The Oaks is today, but still time to get into the big race tomorrow. The Derby promises to be exciting as ever this year, and TicketCity personnel are down in Louisville to make sure you get your tickets.

The small surprise this week is Maná managing bypass some pretty famous performers to end up the top concert act on the list. Pretty magical, if you ask me.

The famous in question follow Maná, starting with Taylor Swift and ending up with the esteemed Mr. Bieber, who takes a pretty big tumble from the top of the list. ACL Fest follows as buzz builds for the announcement of the 2011 line-up. The full list goes out May 17th, so the fest will probably hang around the list for a few more weeks before the summer lul sets in.

Britney and Arcade Fire both return to the list after absences of various lengths. Recently ever-present in the bottom 5, the WWE again rounds out the list at #10 this week.

1 1 Justin Bieber
2 5 Taylor Swift
3 3 Kentucky Derby
4 4 Kentucky Oaks
5 2 Adele
6 6 Miami Heat
7 - Maná
8 - Davis Cup
9 9 WWE
10 - Katy Perry

Less new stuff this week as all the top 5 hangs around, and most stay right where they were last week. The only change is Taylor Swift and Adele, who swap places. Taylor Swift’s show in Austin isn’t until October, but tickets went on sale recently, no doubt having a bit of an effect on her rankings this week. She did not manage to dethrone the esteemed Mr. Bieber. The Derby and Oaks are about a week away now, and interest remains strong. Still time to get your seats for “The most exciting 2 minutes in sports.”

The Heat’s entry into Round Two of the NBA playoffs pits them against the 2008 champs and 2010 runners-up Boston Celtics in what promises to be a very big series. They hang steady at #6 this week, but may surge as the games get underway next week.

Maná enters the countdown at #7. The Grammy Award winning Latin rock group has been around since 1978, releasing 8 studio albums so far. The most recent of them is Drama y Luz, their first album in over 5 years. With fans having such a long wait between albums, no wonder Maná is moving up the chart.

Rounding things out we have the Davis Cup returning, along with Katy Perry, both of whom will likely be around quite a bit as summer nears.

1 2 Justin Bieber
2 3 Adele
3 10 Kentucky Derby
4 - Kentucky Oaks
5 6 Taylor Swift
6 - Miami Heat
7 7 Mumford & Sons
8 - Texas Rangers
9 - WWE
10 - Pearl Jam

Looks like the Davis Cup didn’t have the staying power to remain on top, or even in the countdown at all. I sense it will return a time or two before July. For now, the vacated top spot is once again reclaimed by the esteemed Mr. Bieber, followed closely by Adele. Contributing to this week’s more eclectic mix of sports and concerts, the Derby and Oaks shoot back up the charts to secure the third and forth spot on the countdown.

Taylor Swift rounds out the top five, and the Miami Heat lead off the bottom five. The Heat are playing Philadelphia in the first round of the NBA Playoffs, where they’re just 1 win away from shutting down the 76ers and moving on to the second round. Take a look at our NBA Playoffs Tickets page to keep up with the match-ups, and, of course, buy some tickets to see the games in person.

Mumford & Sons hang steady at #7 this week. Following them the Rangers appear. Fresh off last year’s World Series appearance against the Giants, Rangers tickets are hot this season. After the WWE, Pearl Jam pops in at #10. Rumors of a new album and a 20th anniversary festival for the band are probably helping to fuel the interest.

TicketCity Week in Search

1 1 Davis Cup
2 3 Justin Bieber
3 6 Adele
4 5 Lil Wayne
5 - Kings of Leon
6 8 Taylor Swift
7 - Mumford & Sons
8 - Kenny Chesney
9 - Tim McGraw
10 9 Kentucky Derby

Davis Cup stays on top again this week. Will be interesting to see what kind of staying power this event has, since it won’t happen until July. Someone who has demonstrated some staying power so far, the esteemed Mr. Bieber, returns to the #2 spot recently vacated by the Frozen Four. He’s followed by Adele, who has climbed the chart in the recent weeks, and Lil Wayne, who has been a fixture in the top 5 recently. Rounding things out are the Kings of Leon, who have been around but lacking the consistency of their fellow top 5 entries.

Taylor Swift is unable to make it back to the top 5, ending up at #6 this week. She’s followed by new entry Mumford & Sons. The English folk rock band recently achieved success in the states with Grammy-nominated hit “Little Lion Man” and is touring in spring and summer in the US this year. Their current album, Sigh No More, is certified Platinum and they are currently writing songs for a follow-up.

Country stars Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw both return to the bottom 5 this week, providing a very country / folk feel to things. The Derby finishes last, which is a respectable showing here, but not something those 3-year-old thoroughbred horses should be striving for.
