Less new stuff this week as all the top 5 hangs around, and most stay right where they were last week. The only change is Taylor Swift and Adele, who swap places. Taylor Swift’s show in Austin isn’t until October, but tickets went on sale recently, no doubt having a bit of an effect on her rankings this week. She did not manage to dethrone the esteemed Mr. Bieber. The Derby and Oaks are about a week away now, and interest remains strong. Still time to get your seats for “The most exciting 2 minutes in sports.”

The Heat’s entry into Round Two of the NBA playoffs pits them against the 2008 champs and 2010 runners-up Boston Celtics in what promises to be a very big series. They hang steady at #6 this week, but may surge as the games get underway next week.

Maná enters the countdown at #7. The Grammy Award winning Latin rock group has been around since 1978, releasing 8 studio albums so far. The most recent of them is Drama y Luz, their first album in over 5 years. With fans having such a long wait between albums, no wonder Maná is moving up the chart.

Rounding things out we have the Davis Cup returning, along with Katy Perry, both of whom will likely be around quite a bit as summer nears.

10 - Pearl Jam

Looks like the Davis Cup didn’t have the staying power to remain on top, or even in the countdown at all. I sense it will return a time or two before July. For now, the vacated top spot is once again reclaimed by the esteemed Mr. Bieber, followed closely by Adele. Contributing to this week’s more eclectic mix of sports and concerts, the Derby and Oaks shoot back up the charts to secure the third and forth spot on the countdown.

Taylor Swift rounds out the top five, and the Miami Heat lead off the bottom five. The Heat are playing Philadelphia in the first round of the NBA Playoffs, where they’re just 1 win away from shutting down the 76ers and moving on to the second round. Take a look at our NBA Playoffs Tickets page to keep up with the match-ups, and, of course, buy some tickets to see the games in person.

Mumford & Sons hang steady at #7 this week. Following them the Rangers appear. Fresh off last year’s World Series appearance against the Giants, Rangers tickets are hot this season. After the WWE, Pearl Jam pops in at #10. Rumors of a new album and a 20th anniversary festival for the band are probably helping to fuel the interest.

9 - Kentucky Derby
10 - Kentucky Oaks

Interesting combination of same and different this week. First up, the top four from last week take one step down in order to make room for the Davis Cup. The Davis Cup is, of course, only the biggest international men’s tennis championship today, and 2011 is the 100th edition. The entire tournament is played in rounds that start in March and don’t end until December. One set of Quarterfinals will be held in July at the Frank Erwin Center, featuring the US team taking on Spain. This likely will become a bit of a hot ticket for Austin as its debut on the countdown suggests.

As alluded previously, the rest of the top 5 is the same as last week, with the Frozen Four now at #2 and Lil Wayne at #5. Adele pops back from the bottom of last week’s countdown to take the #6 spot, leading the way for some returning favorites and a new entry.

That new entry is Selena Gomez, who, while she has a recording career of her own, is probably better known at the moment as the girlfriend of the #3 entry on the countdown. Amusingly her Wikipedia article currently omits this fact, and I doubt this blog will be considered a “reliable source.” Granted I’m making a huge assumption that it will still be true by the time I press the “publish” button on this post. Her band, Selena Gomez & the Scene have a new, as-yet-unamed album coming out in June and are touring in support of it.

Rounding out the list we see Taylor Swift return after a few week’s absence, and the big racing weekend at Churchill Downs finishes things off.

The Week in TicketCity Search – April 30th

It’s Derby week, and nowhere is that more apparent than on our countdown. Well, perhaps in Louisville, Kentucky, but only by a little… Yes, the Derby and Oaks won handily this week, knocking Lady Gaga off the top. Her fall was steep, so steep, that she didn’t land at #3. No, that spot went to a resurgent Carrie Underwood, who may be in for a long run thanks to a concert tour that runs almost non-stop through the rest of 2010.

George Strait gains a couple spots to round out the top 5, while Rush remains at a mellow #6 for a third week in a row. Not sure, but that may be the most constant occupation of the #6 slot in all countdown history. Continuing to bounce in and out of the countdown, Drake returns at #7… just head of someone who fell a lot harder than Lady Gaga. Yes, the esteemed Mr. Bieber hit #8 this week, barely ahead of Spurs fans who are following their team into the second round of the NBA Playoffs.

Finally, American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert debuts on the countdown at #10. Not sure what it is about American Idol losers. Granted, you don’t have to do much to outperform a lot of American Idol winners… Lambert is playing a limited set of dates coming up in June for the “Glam Nation” Tour. Currently only one date is set past June, but more could be added, so keep checking back or signup for for updates on the Adam Lambert tickets page.

The Week in TicketCity Search – April 23rd

The Kentucky Derby and Oaks return to the countdown after a weeks absence. While traditional Derby wear for the ladies includes some big hats, they still have nothing on whatever Lady Gaga wears on a daily basis. She remains at the top, while Louisville’s long lived horse racing traditions have cost the esteemed Mr. Bieber the #2 spot. The WWE remains at a strong #5, a consistently higher showing than usual considering their line-ups were effected by last week’s volcano-induced air travel shutdown.

The bottom five finds some returning favorites and one new entry. Rush remains #6, while George Strait tumbles a bit to #7. Sharon Jones appears for the first time on the countdown. I take it efficiency was the only reason no one added The Dap Kings to their search efforts. The funk/soul band is on tour now, playing dates through June.

Rounding out the top 10 are former favorites Carrie Underwood and Aerosmith. After last year’s troubled tour, the rockers are setting out once again to play dates in Europe and South/Central America on the Cocked, Locked, Ready to Rock Tour.
