5 5 Dallas Cowboys

10 - Auburn Football

Its beginning to look a lot like football season,
mascots in ev’ry slot.
But the prettiest sight to see are the tickets that will be
at your own front door.

Okay, not “ev’ry,” but I had to round a bit for the song parody to work. It is over half, so I’ve got the math on my side. Which is strange, because math and I generally do not get along well at all.

After weeks of near misses, Luke Bryan reaches the apex of his music career, capturing the top spot on the TicketCity Week in Search. The football shake-up leaves a number of previous contenders nowhere to be found. 1D missed the top completely for the first time in months while last week’s champ, Bruno Mars, conquered and departed.

Who were the pigskin favorites this week? The NFL’s usual suspects, the Texans and Cowboys, are joined by the 49ers, while on the college side, Mississippi State climbs even higher, and pulls along Auburn, Arkansas, and Texas. None of these teams are strangers to the top 10 from seasons past.

In between the football frenzy, former champ Taylor Swift returns with a solid landing at #4. The clock is ticking on the Red Tour. Fans have until the end of September to see the show live.

While the thought crossed my mind to rock the Perry Como with the original “It’s Beginning to Look a lot Like Christmas”, that would be a bit unfair to Mr. Bryan’s achievement this week. So here’s the video for “Crash My Party.” Yes, there are pickup trucks and flannel shirts.

The Week in TicketCity Search – Strait Is A Direction

TicketCity Week in Search

Week of
Oct. 8t
1 2 ACL Fest
2 1 Longhorns Football
3 4 Mississippi State Football
4 3 Justin Bieber
5 5 One Direction
6 - George Strait
7 6 W Virginia Mountaineers
8 - Baltimore Orioles
9 - Pink
10 - Houston Texans

It was not a close one this week, as ACL dominated the competition, winning by a very comfortable margin. The first set of performances are now on the books as I’m writing this, so the “last minute” surge was not unexpected. The temperatures this weekend will be positively pleasant (by our usual standards), but you may want to be ready for some precipitation. If you ask me, I’d rather be damp due to rain than sweltering in the heat.

The big TX-OU weekend dovetails with ACL this year, but the surge the Longhorns experienced wasn’t enough to knock the festival out of the top spot. We’ll have a team out at the Cotton Bowl for late ticket purchases, so there’s still time to make it in.

The (not really) eternal battle of the teen pop titans continues this week, with Bieber still in the lead. He has the slightly unfair advantage of actually being on tour at the moment while One Direction isn’t quite so active at the moment.

The bottom five provides a few changes of pace. George Strait is one of them. He’s been away for a while but is back with a new tour, and fans would be wise to catch it. Strait announced he’s retiring and The Cowboy Rides Away Tour will be his last. He’s providing fans with two years to get in to see his farewell, as it’s not scheduled to end until 2014.

While MLB can fly under the radar for a while during football season, the playoffs general make an impact on the countdown. The Orioles get the honors this week as they battle the Yankees to move onto the ALCS against Detroit. That contest will be decided today.

The Week in TicketCity Search – Austin’s Most Wanted

TicketCity Week in Search

Week of
Oct. 1st
1 4 Longhorns Football
2 6 ACL Fest
3 3 Justin Bieber
4 2 Mississippi State Football
5 1 One Direction
6 5 W Virginia Mountaineers
7 8 Dallas Cowboys
8 - New England Patriots
9 - Ohio St Football
10 - Jay-Z

Close one this week, as a couple “local favorites” vie for the top. After adding up a few different ways to say the same thing (for both), the Longhorns get the win. Perhaps the Longhorns’ own winning record has something to do with that.

For the musically inclined, the ACL Fest is now just one week away. Ample time to buy and pick up your passes from our own humble offices. We will also have some folks at Uncle Billys with free swag should you wish to check in before hitting the verdant, melodic fields of Zilker Park.

The shuffling in the top five brings former champs 1D down to #5, losing even the teen idol top spot to the esteemed Mr. Beiber. Perhaps their lack of on-stage gastronomic distress curbed fan interest. Talk about building buzz for the new tour…

The Mountaineers kick off the bottom five, an analogy I’ve probably used before for something that wasn’t football related. They’re followed by the Cowboys, who climb one spot to let the Patriots into the countdown. Haven’t seen them before this year. Ohio State, on the other hand, has been seen before.

Jay-Z just makes it in this week. He is finishing up his Barclay’s Center concert series this weekend. Some quick action will get you in the door for the last couple shows. We have lot of e-deliverable tickets that should make it to any Jay-Z fan’s inbox rather quickly.

The Week in TicketCity Search – Resuming Our Previous Direction

TicketCity Week in Search

Week of
Sept. 24th
1 2 One Direction
2 1 Mississippi State Football
3 3 Justin Bieber
4 4 Longhorns Football
5 - W Virginia Mountaineers
6 5 ACL Fest
7 - Lady Gaga
8 8 Dallas Cowboys
9 - Ryder Cup
10 - Aerosmith

Fear not football fans, the season is still young, but its effects on the countdown have subsided once more. We’ll see a blow out once more when bowl season rolls around. For now, we’re back to the usual course of concert domination, headlined by our friends in One Direction. The Bulldogs try to break up the fight between Bieber and 1D by sliding down to the second spot.

The Mountaineers return to the countdown this week to round out the top five. They’d put in a previous appearance some weeks back but haven’t been seen since. More churn in college football this season than in previous season, or at least it seems that way.

The ACL Fest starts off the bottom five, where we find some familiar faces. The first of whom is Gaga herself, after quite the long absence. The Born This Way Ball Tour is well underway, though it won’t reach North American shores until early 2013. In the meantime Gaga continues to crisscross Europe and South America while wondering why the number twenty-five is such a big deal.

One returning sporting event makes a late breaking appearance. The Ryder Cup wraps up this weekend at the Medinah Country Club. Will Team USA bring home the win against the Europeans? You can still get tickets to the championship to find out in person.

The Week in TicketCity Search – Return of the Teen Titans

TicketCity Week in Search

Week of
Sept. 17th
1 2 Mississippi State Football
2 3 One Direction
3 8 Justin Bieber
4 1 Longhorns Football
5 - ACL Fest
6 - OK State Football
7 - Jason Aldean
8 4 Dallas Cowboys
9 - Alabama Football
10 5 Kevin Hart

Shake-up in the top ten this week as the cracks in football’s grasp on the countdown widen. The Longhorns lose the top spot after a solid run, replaced by Mississippi State, who had been #2 for the majority of that same run. The fight appears to be on one more in the teen pop arena. I’d say I’m having flashbacks to “last summer”, but it’s still that same summer for the next twelve hours.

Rounding out the top five is the ACL Festival, which returns with a few weeks to go before showtime on October 12th. This year’s headliners include the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jack White, and Florence + The Machine. There’s a lot more bands there, many of whom I’m sure are hoping to be in 22.2px Verdana at the top of this page someday.

Oklahoma State anchors the bottom five this week, reminding us that football season is still pretty young. They are joined by Alabama. The Crimson Tide is new to the countdown this season, though no stranger to the countdown from seasons past. The SEC usually figures pretty prominently each year.

Jason Aldean peaks in yet again. Aldean has been phasing in and out of the countdown for months now. With football fever subsiding a bit, he may be able to hang around longer now. Kevin Hart falls sharply, but just manages to hang onto the countdown at #10.
