Don’t Miss a Thing

Oklahoma City Thunder vs. Portland Trail Blazers
Tuesday, 7 PM @ Chesapeake Energy Arena, Oklahoma City, OK

KD is a favorite for NBA MVP this season.

Current 2nd and 3rd in the Western Conference, this is an intriguing match up. A win could move someone into 1st place, and the way Kevin Durant has been playing, most bets might be on the Thunder. KD threw up 54 points last week, but LaMarcus Aldridge and Damain Lillard might be even better than the Durant-Westbrook combo.

Montreal Canadiens vs. Pittsburgh Penguins
Wednesday, 7 PM @ Consol Energy Center, Pittsburgh, PA

Crosby leads the league in points, and it’s not even close

The Penguins sit in 1st place in the Eastern Conference, while the Habs are in fourth. A big win in Pittsburgh could give the Canadiens the confidence they need to start climbing that ladder to secure home ice advantage in the playoffs. Montreal is strong defensively and kill 85.6% of power plays, so Crosby and Malkin will have their hands full.

Australian Open Men’s Single Semifinals
Friday, 2:30 AM @ Melbourne Park, Melbourne, Australia

Oh, the possibilities.

The Australian Open. While we aren’t quite sure who will be playing in the semifinals quite yet, you can bet it will be at least one of these two legends. All but one of the top eight seeds have made the quarterfinals, and with a Rafa-Roger semifinal possibly looming, it’s worth making up early for (or going to, if you’re lucky enough to live in Australia).

Michigan vs. Michigan State
Saturday, 7 PM @ Breslin Center, East Lansing, MI

No love lost in this matchup

In the only game of the weekend featuring two ranked teams, the #21 Wolverines are looking to knock off #3 Michigan State on their home court. Last year the Spartans demolished their rivals 75-52 at the Breslin Center, but then lost a nail-biter in Ann Arbor 58-57.

San Antonio Spurs vs. Miami Heat
Sunday, 1 PM @ American Airlines Arena, Miami FL

The shot that cost the Spurs their 5th title

The Spurs lost a heartbreaking 2013 NBA Finals to the Heat, and this will be the first time the two meet since Game 7.  San Antonio is in first place once again, while the Heat trail only the Pacers in the East. You can bet the American Airlines Arena will be packed to capacity, and the Spurs would love nothing more than to silence the Miami fans.

Taylor Swift returns to the top spot this week, where she dominated a few months ago but was exiled when Beyoncé blew away the competition. Swift’s return to the top only illustrates the staying power of 1D, who have rarely been out of the top 3 in that entire time. As each new big summer tour is announced, they’ve seen a lot of number ones come and go, but consistently remained a favorite.

At #3, Pink steadily gained ground over the past few weeks. Once milling about in the bottom five, she has, indeed, come up, thus the top five is obligated to commence partying. She’ll be taking The Truth About Love Tour overseas for most of the summer, hitting Europe and Australia before returning to the States next fall. Sad she’s leaving just as the party is getting started.

Also on the rebound, the esteemed Mr. Bieber returns to somewhat familiar territory, having spent a few weeks in the bottom five. Maroon 5 also jumps up a notch, rounding things out this week.

Rihanna enjoys a big jump as well. Looks like everyone is doing great this week. Right? Bruno? Oh…

The Heat pop in with some bad news about that whole ‘streak’ thing, and George Strait returns as well. You’ve got almost exactly 1 month at this point to get into the Alamodome and check out the last concert of this leg of The Cowboys Rides Away Tour. Appearances between then and 2014 may be scarce.

Watch the Miami Heat make history this week

The defending World Champs are on tour this week with stops in Chicago, New Orleans & San Antonio. Nationally known sports reporter and on-air host Chip Brown discusses why all NBA fans should attend at least one Heat game this season to see the team making history every time they step on the court.

10 - Bon Jovi

It appears searchers are savoring the anticipation of Sunday’s bowl announcements, as they are noticeably absent this week. The only exception, making it to #3 this week, is the BCS, and that is likely because Norte Dame has a “presumptive” lock on it. The Fighting Irish haven’t been to the National Championship Game for quite some time, so fans are eager to see them make some history at Sun Life Stadium this January.

The Irish in question will likely be fighting the winner of the #1 entry this week, the SEC Championship. The Crimson Tide and the Georgia flavored Bulldogs take to the field at the Georgia Dome this Saturday.

Squeezed between these testosterone fueled spectacles, 1D lands in the #2 spot. With the exception of the Heat holding over from before the Thanksgiving holiday, the remainder of the countdown is filled with concert performers. The holiday concert season is in full swing, as evidenced by the return of noted holiday favorite Trans Siberian Orchestra in the #6 spot. TSO’s show this season is based on their 2004 album The Lost Christmas Eve.

Some classic rock rounding things out this week, as both Rush and Clapton make an appearance. Clapton is playing shows with the somewhat freshly reunited Wallflowers next spring.

I’m sure next week we will be seeing some more bowl entries. Will be interesting to see who comes out on top.

So many racing puns, so little time… Suffice to say, the US Grand Prix takes the win this week, in what remained a relatively close battle with a very resurgent Taylor Swift. She had dropped to #10 last week after a strong debut, but leaps right back to the #2 spot this week. That leaves former champ 1D two spots out of contention. I wouldn’t worry about the boys, I suspect they’ll be reclaiming the crown soon enough.

Kinda-sorta-not-really out of nowhere, Aerosmith enters the countdown at #4. They’re playing the Frank Erwin Center tonight, so this bit of fortune isn’t really a surprise at all.

In spite of all the other changes in the top 5, the SEC championship holds steady at #5. The regular season of college football is drawing to a close, and soon the bowl frenzy will be upon us. This week the Cotton Bowl makes an appearance, while the BCS slips from #7 to #10. Get a jump on your friends and check out our Bowl game listings. Also enter this year’s TicketCity Bowl Contest for a chance for you and your three best friends to see your team play a bowl game!

Carrie Underwood debuts at #6 to start off the bottom five. She’s on the Blown Away Tour, covering North America between now and Summer 2013. She’s not slacking, the tour will rack up over 100 dates, making it a safe bet for one of the top tours of 2012 and 2013.
