This is the part of the blog where I say something about “sexy” being returned to the top of the countdown, presumably in serviceable condition. With that out the way, I shall also note the previous weeks’ top 2 made room for the aforementioned “sexy” return. Finally, I’ll say something about George Strait climbing back to fourth place, which is merely a statement of fact and not a tired Justin Timberlake joke.

Billy Joel showed up last week, and I didn’t say anything, mostly because I was wondering if he’d stick around. Lo, he has done that, and climbed up three spots. He doesn’t get out quite as much as he did in the 80s, but fans will be able to see him again next January. Fun fact, when he announced in ’93 that River of Dreams was going to be his last pop album, I scoffed. Fully admit he’s kept that promise the last 20 years (holy crap), but time is on my side…

The rest of the bottom five features some of the recent, usual suspects in the on-again, off-again bunch. Kanye, Pink, and Miley have all been sighted recently, but have had trouble maintaining a stable presence on the countdown. One Direction barely clings to the top 10, but cling they do.

Since Billy made it a second week, no reason not to engage in a little nostalgia. Way back in that greatest of decades, the 1980s, this video was played a lot on a network called MTV, and it starred a lady named Christie Brinkley, with whom Mr. Joel fell in deep smit. They got married and lived happily ever after… or divorced in 1994… one of those.

10 - NFR

While the top 2 did not change, there was quite a shuffle below them. Drake remains in a comfortable first place, while Luke Bryan spends a second week in second. JT performs some sort of smooth dance move to jump from seventh and land in third place.

Which brings us to fourth place, and the return of the former countdown champs, One Direction. Not entirely sure why this has happened, and Google News it not illuminating on the subject. They’re in the states for some TV appearances over Thanksgiving week, ahead of a bit of a dry spell between then and a new international tour starting in spring 2014. You guys know you don’t need tickets to a “Global Live Stream”, right?

Baylor football rounds out the top five. The Bears play Texas Tech this weekend up in Arlington at the Cowboy’s home, AT&T Stadium. They’ll be closing the season December 7th against the Longhorns, playing the last game at Floyd Casey Stadium. We’ve got a bit of a shindig before the game if you’re interested in some quality tailgating. Check it out here.

Miley Cyrus drops by as tickets for her Bangerz Tour go on sale. The US Grand Prix finally visits the countdown as well, just in time, as the races are this weekend. There’s still tickets available and you can pick up some of them right here in Austin at our offices.

Well, I’ve posted 1D’s videos before so to switch things up a bit, here’s a pretty solid review of the band’s latest single, “The Story of My Life,” and vegetables.

Miley Cyrus: The Bangerz Tour

Miley’s muscular hydrostat will be dragging the rest of her around the country next spring for the “Bangerz Tour.” Now that name has some zazz. It’s a title insecure enough to grab you by the throat and scream, “Please pay attention to me!”

Cyrus teased the tour in a recent guest spot on Saturday Night Live. The tour hits 38 cities starting with Vancouver on February 14th. Lots of arena shows on tap in California, New York, Texas, and quite a few places in-between.

The TicketCity Fourth of July Playlist

The TicketCity staff is full of music lovers, and we know that no Independence Day party would be complete without music! Below is just a sampling of the musical tributes to our grand ol’ country that one or all of us will be rocking out to this Fourth of July.

Since your Independence Day barbecue could feature an array of attendee ages, we’ve included a little something for everyone. Some classics, others…not so much.  But no matter what, from The Boss to The Muppets, you can be sure it doesn’t get more American than this.

Bruce Springsteen’s “Born in the USA”

Miley Cyrus’ “Party in the U.S.A.”

The Muppet’s version of “Stars and Stripes Forever”

Jimmy Hendrix’s version of “The Star Spangled Banner”

The harder it is to see the trophy,
the more valuable it is. Right?

With the bowl season over and the NFL playoffs still in early stages, this week concerts once again floated to the top. Lead by Lady Gaga, whose Monster Ball Tour will mean she is a fixture of the list for months to come, concerts dominate the top 3. Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus, also fixtures on the list, show no signs of slowing as they both climb significantly this week. The distinguished Mr. Bieber, whose meteoric rise to fame has yet to cool down, takes the #2 spot. As mentioned earlier this week, it was announced he will be closing out the Houston Rodeo. It has been explained to me that this is a big deal. I smiled and nodded.

Carrie Underwood returns this week, having released her latest album, Play On, in November. The former American Idol’s 2010 Tour is set to kick off in March. Though I don’t think her music will be blasting on SUNDAY! SUNDAY! SUNDAY! when the rather large, some might say ‘monstrous’, trucks of Monster Jam arrive at an arena near you this coming spring.

Finally the NFL does take a peek into the countdown, as Wild Card winners the Cowboys and the Saints show up in the bottom 5 in advance of their Divisional championship games this weekend. The big game itself appears at #10.
