Okay, so, fair enough, new tour announced, thus I have no reason to expect the top spot to be otherwise occupied at this point. Occupied with a very, very comfortable margin, of course. George didn’t go down without a fight. He racked up some impressive numbers in a second place performance that would have been an easy win on any other week. The SEC Championship lands in third place as two teams that are not Alabama meet up to crown the winner

Beyoncé’s return this week likely has something to do with her tour winding through Texas this weekend. Fans are running out of time to get to the Mrs. Carter Show, as she will be wrapping things up near the end of the month at the Barclay’s Center. Billy Joel still has gas in the tank, rounding out the top five this week.

Like Mrs. Carter, the WWE will be stomping around Texas in the next couple weeks, with a big PPV in Houston on the 15th followed by three more shows in Austin, San Antonio, and Corpus Christi.

In at #8, Baylor’s season ending game with the Longhorns. There’s still time get your tickets to the big TicketCity VIP Tailgate before the game. I’d go into all the awesome stuff that’s going on there, but suffice to say, it’s happening in a heated tent. Anyone looking at the forecast for Saturday will certainly appreciate that.

John Mayer drops by at #9 this week. Not sure if this is his first appearance or not. He’s part of this week’s rather large fraternity of “people doing stuff in Texas.” Specifically, he’s playing the Frank Erwin Center tonight, so here’s a taste of what you may hear at the concert tonight.

The Week in TicketCity Search – Bringing Obvious Jokes Back

10 4 One Direction

This is the part of the blog where I say something about “sexy” being returned to the top of the countdown, presumably in serviceable condition. With that out the way, I shall also note the previous weeks’ top 2 made room for the aforementioned “sexy” return. Finally, I’ll say something about George Strait climbing back to fourth place, which is merely a statement of fact and not a tired Justin Timberlake joke.

Billy Joel showed up last week, and I didn’t say anything, mostly because I was wondering if he’d stick around. Lo, he has done that, and climbed up three spots. He doesn’t get out quite as much as he did in the 80s, but fans will be able to see him again next January. Fun fact, when he announced in ’93 that River of Dreams was going to be his last pop album, I scoffed. Fully admit he’s kept that promise the last 20 years (holy crap), but time is on my side…

The rest of the bottom five features some of the recent, usual suspects in the on-again, off-again bunch. Kanye, Pink, and Miley have all been sighted recently, but have had trouble maintaining a stable presence on the countdown. One Direction barely clings to the top 10, but cling they do.

Since Billy made it a second week, no reason not to engage in a little nostalgia. Way back in that greatest of decades, the 1980s, this video was played a lot on a network called MTV, and it starred a lady named Christie Brinkley, with whom Mr. Joel fell in deep smit. They got married and lived happily ever after… or divorced in 1994… one of those.

10 - NFR

While the top 2 did not change, there was quite a shuffle below them. Drake remains in a comfortable first place, while Luke Bryan spends a second week in second. JT performs some sort of smooth dance move to jump from seventh and land in third place.

Which brings us to fourth place, and the return of the former countdown champs, One Direction. Not entirely sure why this has happened, and Google News it not illuminating on the subject. They’re in the states for some TV appearances over Thanksgiving week, ahead of a bit of a dry spell between then and a new international tour starting in spring 2014. You guys know you don’t need tickets to a “Global Live Stream”, right?

Baylor football rounds out the top five. The Bears play Texas Tech this weekend up in Arlington at the Cowboy’s home, AT&T Stadium. They’ll be closing the season December 7th against the Longhorns, playing the last game at Floyd Casey Stadium. We’ve got a bit of a shindig before the game if you’re interested in some quality tailgating. Check it out here.

Miley Cyrus drops by as tickets for her Bangerz Tour go on sale. The US Grand Prix finally visits the countdown as well, just in time, as the races are this weekend. There’s still tickets available and you can pick up some of them right here in Austin at our offices.

Well, I’ve posted 1D’s videos before so to switch things up a bit, here’s a pretty solid review of the band’s latest single, “The Story of My Life,” and vegetables.

The Week in TicketCity Search – Mars Attacks (and Wins)

9 - Justin Timberlake
10 - Keith Urban

Pretty big shake up this week. Bruno Mars nails the top spot in a five point jump, leaving 1D only a week to enjoy their return. Out of the clear blue sky, Elton John takes the second spot. John, who is recovering from surgery to remove his appendix, will be doing four weeks at Caesar’s Palace starting mid-September. Not sure why the sudden explosion of interest, but I’m sure Elton doesn’t mind.

Elton’s arrival and Mars’ Hail Mary play leave Luke Bryan nowhere to go but down, landing softly at #3, while 1D’s landing was not quite so elegant. Wrapping things up in the top are the venerable Cowboys, who are even in their 2 preseason contests to date.

The Texans follow, kicking off the bottom five, in one of the few times I’ve used that idiom relevantly. The Bulldogs round out the rich, nougaty, football center of this weeks’ countdown.

Selena Gomez makes her countdown debut this week. Despite claims of focusing on a film career, she’s put out her solo debut album, Stars Dance, and is hitting the road for a late summer / fall tour. Joining her on the countdown, not the tour, are returning favorites Justin Timberlake and Keith Urban. Urban has been absent from the top 10 for a while now, but is back with a new fall tour featuring Little Big Town and Dustin Lynch.

Selena’s debut on the countdown and Selena’s debut single from her latest album, that’s synergistic enough, I suppose. This appears to be the standard attractive-pop-star travelog sort of vid, with some bonus HD stock footage of waves thrown in for good measure.

9 9 Houston Texans
10 - Lollapalooza

With the Gold Cup in the history books for another couple of years (we won in a 1-0 scorcher), the countdown turns to that other sort of football. Or it will towards the bottom, at least. Like a healthy immune system, the top five eventually expels all sports-related entities and returns to its natural, concert-only state. This week the esteemed Mr. Bieber recaptures the top spot from which he was exiled months and months ago.

Pearl Jam hits the countdown in a big way, as their recently announced fall tour heats up. The band will release a new album, Lightning Bolt, ahead of the first tour date, followed by 24 more dates in North America. The band then takes trip down under in January.

Also returning this week, though hardly breaking from touring, is Maroon 5. They’ve been on the road already this summer, and are now teamed up with Kelly Clarkson and Rozzi Crane for the 2013 edition of the Honda Civic Tour. As in previous years, fans can enter a contest to win a Honda Civic with colors customized by the headliners.

The Cowboys and Texans share spots on the countdown this week as the NFL preseason is almost upon us. Very much upon us is the Lollapalooza festival, which begins today and lasts the weekend. Headliners include The Killers, Mumford & Sons, and The Cure.

Wait, The Cure? What year is this!?
