My cunning plan to miss a weekly update a hope this One Direction thing died down a bit has failed. For the record, they won last week too. Hopefully that’s the biggest surprise you experience this week. The Derby peaked at #2, as the festivities are under way today with the Oaks and the big race itself is tomorrow. TicketCity has a team in Louisville so all you very, very last minute shoppers still have a chance to get in on the most exciting two minutes in sports.

The Rangers leapt up the list, ending up at #4 and providing the only other sports event this week.

For all practical purposes we’re in the big summer concert season already. While the box office is pleased with the boy band from England, there’s big tours roaming all over. Roger Waters “Wall Live Tour” passed through Austin, boosting him to #5 this week.

The bottom five is all new, all concerts, kicking off with Tom Petty, who is drifting through Austin tomorrow night. Coldplay, Dave Matthews Band, and Drake are also Texas bound but you’ve got some time to get your tickets for all those shows in Dallas and Houston.

The Week in TicketCity Search – November 5th

A not entirely unexpected bloodbath this week in the rankings, as the World Series has ended in a manner that did not befit the blockbuster narrative I set out in the last update. While there’s a lot of new on the list, some things are back to ‘normal’, as the esteemed Mr. Bieber returns to being the default choice for the nation’s entertainment dollar. The Breeders’ Cup two day event shoots up to #2, a big showing for an event that didn’t spark much last year. Perhaps the move to Churchill Downs has something to do with that.

Certainly a newcomer to the countdown, but not the entertainment world in general, Prince arrives at #3. I sense this is because of his recently announced US concert tour, dubbed “Welcome 2 America”, in support of his most recent album 20Ten. Looks like things will be kicking off at the Izod Center in December. He’s followed by another list newcomer, the English band Take That, who announced at big stadium tour in Europe. We don’t have any inventory for them yet, because the current dates are pretty deep into 2011, but sit tight, I’m sure it’ll pop up soon.

The 17 time NBA champion Lakers enter at #5 as the NBA season gets underway, followed by the Longhorns before more concerts take over the rest of the list. George Strait has been absent for a while, but he’s back with a concert with Reba McEntire in Austin early next year. Disney on Ice, Bon Jovi, and Roger Waters round out the countdown this week.

The Week in TicketCity Search – October 22

Catching up this week, and an interestingly auspicious one it is, as it appears we’ve gone two weeks without the esteemed Mr. Beiber on the countdown. That of course, is nearly as impressive as the performance of the Texas Rangers, who went from 2nd to 1st over the past couple weeks by turning in a performance that few would probably admit they expected. They are one win away from their first trip to the World Series. That will probably end up being a pretty big deal up in Dallas.

In other sporting news the Breeder’s Cup is a bit more popular this year, climbing the charts from 9 to 4. It’s a two day event, scheduled for November 5th and 6th, so ample time to get your tickets. On the football side of things, both the Longhorns and the Cowboys appeared this week, though at opposite ends of the list. We do draw closer to the postseason for both college and pro football. The NCAA conference championships are always big, and a good warm up to bowl season in December.

Shakira hangs in at #5 for a couple weeks, similar to other concert performers, Usher, Roger Waters, and Phish. Phish are enjoying a Beiber-like run for weeks now. Comedian Aziz Ansari came through town this week, and made it to #6 on the countdown as a result.

The Week in TicketCity Search – May 14th

Not what I would have expected, but Tool has reached the top. The alt-metal band’s tour doesn’t kick off until June, but interest has certainly spiked. Some of the earliest dates are around our area, so that may have something to do with it. Following them is Roger Waters, whose Wall Live tour doesn’t start until September but is nearly as hot. Fans are searching early for these tickets. Rounding out the top 3 is the WWE, who have never been hotter, literally, as this is the highest they’ve ever appeared on the countdown.

Things take a turn for the more familiar as the esteemed Mr. Bieber and Lady Gaga complete the the top 5 and usher us to Conan O’Brien at #6. His comedy tour hits Austin tonight, so this last minute surge is not unexpected. Adam Lambert tumbles from an impressive #1 last week, settling down at #7, just ahead of Carrie Underwood, who managed to gain a spot. Rush also tumbled, landing at #9 from #2 last week.

Finally, just like Tool and Roger Waters fans, it seems the Cowboys faithful are shopping early for tickets to the 2010 season. The Dallas team winds up at #10 this week, well ahead of when I’d be expecting to see some NFL presence on the list.

The Week in TicketCity Search – May 7th

The list turned upside down this week. A radical reshaping in the week Post-Derby that sees Lady Gaga out and some interesting newcommers popping in. Of course, since the list includes last weekend, the Derby still appears, managing to cling to the top 5. It was former #10 Adam Lambert who had the best week of all, leaping the entire list to take the #1 spot. The top five spots reverse from Adam through to the Derby, including a resurgent and still esteemed Mr. Bieber.

The lower five sees the WWE pop back in once again, followed by Tool, who’ve been absent for quite a while, but return with new dates this summer in June and July. Veteran rocker Roger Waters of Pink Floyd is setting out on The Wall Live Tour this fall. Dates for the fall tour were only announced recently and there’s big interest already. The tour will see Waters perform Floyd’s famous rock opera The Wall live, similar to his previous Dark Side of The Moon Live Tour.

Another newcommer to the countdown but hardly music in general is the venerable rock band the Eagles. The legendary group, composed of, Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Joe Walsh, and Timothy B. Schmit, are touring jointly with the Dixie Chicks and Keith Urban this summer, in keeping with their country rock roots.
