TicketCity Week in Search

1 - Sugar Bowl
2 1 Cotton Bowl
3 7 BCS Bowl
4 - Gator Bowl
5 - Rose Bowl
6 - Sun Bowl
7 - Texas Bowl
8 4 George Strait
9 5 Taylor Swift
10 - Alamo Bowl

Always nice when a prediction pans out, and “more bowls on the way” certainly did. If not for a tenacious showing by country music’s biggest stars it would have been an all-bowl countdown. Interestingly, while the National Championship Game did climb a few spots, it didn’t end up on top this week. That went to the Sugar Bowl. The Ohio State vs. Arkansas matchup topped the list, followed by Texas A&M┬ávs. LSU in the Cotton Bowl. The Auburn vs. Oregon championship game ended the week at #3.

Gator, Rose, Sun, and Texas follow. We are offered a short break from bowl mania as country heavyweights George Strait and Taylor Swift manage to hold onto the top 10. Strong performance, especially this week. We’ll see how well they do through the rest of the month. With George Strait’s tour opening right here in Austin, he certainly has a good shot at making it through the month without missing a week.

With Cotton, Sun, Texas, and Alamo all on the list, it does have a very Texas flavor. Bowl season kicks off December 18th, with the New Mexico, Humanitarian, and New Orleans bowl.

Two weeks out from the Bowl announcements sees the National Championship take over the top spot on the countdown handily. Last week’s champ the Rose Bowl tumbled all the way down to #7. Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber make for an odd combination at number 2 and 3, but certainly exemplify the tenacity of pop music fans in the face of college football’s most popular events. Taylor Swift remains in the top 5 as well, just below the Cotton Bowl, the only other top 5 Bowl.

The Bottom five is dominated by Bowls, all holdovers from last week with the exception of the Independence Bowl, which slides into the countdown as the Alamo Bowl slides out.

That brings us to this weeks’ newcomer, “Muse.” I’m guessing people aren’t searching for a Grace Jones album, an episode of Star Trek: Voyager, or the Multi Unit Spectroscopic Explorer… but a British alt rock band from Devon, England. Muse’s latest album, The Resistance, was released September 15th in the US. That concludes this week’s “fun with Wikipedia’s disambiguation page”.

1 5 BCS Bowl
2 4 Lady Gaga
3 - Justin Bieber
4 3 Cotton Bowl
5 2 Taylor Swift
6 6 Sugar Bowl
7 1 Rose Bowl
8 7 Gator Bowl
9 - Muse
10 - Independence Bowl

The Week in TicketCity Search – December 11th

Hey, looks like that whole Bowl announcement thing happened last Sunday. This week’s top 10 has a certain college football postseason flavor to it as a result. Concerts were not to be completely denied, though. Apparently Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga make for a potent combination, and they managed to hang on to spots in the top 5. The Rose Bowl took the top slot, followed by the Cotton Bowl at #3 and the National Championship Game at #5. The Sugar, Gator, and Alamo Bowls round our little top-bowls-within-the-top-10-list list.

A Brief Guide To Football InfoGraphic

A Brief Guide To Football

Perhaps illustrative of the “unique” take of American sports fans, another big “football” announcement happened the Friday before the bowl games were set. That was the World Cup draw, which shows up at #9 on the list. While the World Cup demands the attention of most of the world, it doesn’t generate quite the same amount of attention State-side, especially against our home grown flavor of football.

Finally, it appears Nick Jonas has a “side project” band, which explains why people are now searching for him and not the band with whom he is most notably associated. I had no desire to know any of that, but I looked it up anyway.

1 9 Rose Bowl
2 3 Taylor Swift
3 7 Cotton Bowl
4 1 Lady Gaga
5 - BCS
6 - Sugar Bowl
7 - Gator Bowl
8 - Alamo Bowl
9 - World Cup
10 - Nick Jonas

The Week in TicketCity Search – Dec 4th

No surprise the Big 12 Championship remained on top this week, though I had thought the SEC Championship would climb a little higher. Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift held the entire SEC at bay, though. The return of KISS to the countdown, and number 5, rounds out the top.

John Mayer fans pushed their former pop-y current blues-y favorite up a couple notches to start the bottom 5. Miley fell a little further than usual down to the 8th slot and young Justin Beiber actually managed to hold on to a spot in the countdown at #10, another surprise.

That leaves us with the fact that December is the start of Bowl season. Two more bowls make appearances, not coincidentally the two whose participants are all but formalized. They are not, in fact, “official”, so we can’t add their names to our ticket listings quite yet. Suffice to say, there would be considerable surprise if the Cotton Bowl didn’t feature Oklahoma State vs. Ole Miss and the Rose Bowl was not Ohio State vs. Oregon.

1 1 Big 12 Championship
2 2 Lady Gaga
3 3 Taylor Swift
4 6 SEC Championship
5 - KISS
6 8 John Mayer
7 - Cotton Bowl
8 5 Miley Cyrus
9 - Rose Bowl
10 4 Justin Bieber

Looking for fairly boring photos of Lady
Gaga is like a fun Internet scavenger hunt.

The never ending battle between pop and country-pop got interesting this week, as Lady Gaga pushed Taylor Swift from a formerly rather secure perch at the top of the countdown. Taylor tumbles to sixth place in the process, as the desperate scramble to fill up on tickets to her latest set of concert dates has subsided a bit, it seems. Lady Gaga’s Monster Ball tour is gearing up for a November 27th kick-off date, with a full calendar through April of next year.

Miley and Bon Jovi both move up a spot as the SEC Championship has a softer slide than Taylor, and the Big 12 Championship remains firmly in 5th place. Making his first appearance on the countdown is John Mayer, whose new album Battle Studies dropped on November 17th. Mayer is playing a couple dates in 2009 before his concert tour expands in January 2010.

Rounding out the Top 10 the Rose Bowl remains steady a 8, while the Longhorns peek in once more at 9. Buzz continues to build on the team for a spot in the Big 12 Championship and the BCS Bowl beyond. Finally, the WWE rushes in from the outside to interfere in the countdown title match and swipe the #10 belt. That will conclude the surprisingly smart mark commentary for this week.

1 1 Lady Gaga
2 3 Miley Cyrus
3 4 Bon Jovi
4 2 SEC Championship
5 5 Big 12 Championship
6 1 Taylor Swift
7 - John Mayer
8 8 Rose Bowl
9 - Texas Football
10 - WWE
