It appears searchers are savoring the anticipation of Sunday’s bowl announcements, as they are noticeably absent this week. The only exception, making it to #3 this week, is the BCS, and that is likely because Norte Dame has a “presumptive” lock on it. The Fighting Irish haven’t been to the National Championship Game for quite some time, so fans are eager to see them make some history at Sun Life Stadium this January.

The Irish in question will likely be fighting the winner of the #1 entry this week, the SEC Championship. The Crimson Tide and the Georgia flavored Bulldogs take to the field at the Georgia Dome this Saturday.

Squeezed between these testosterone fueled spectacles, 1D lands in the #2 spot. With the exception of the Heat holding over from before the Thanksgiving holiday, the remainder of the countdown is filled with concert performers. The holiday concert season is in full swing, as evidenced by the return of noted holiday favorite Trans Siberian Orchestra in the #6 spot. TSO’s show this season is based on their 2004 album The Lost Christmas Eve.

Some classic rock rounding things out this week, as both Rush and Clapton make an appearance. Clapton is playing shows with the somewhat freshly reunited Wallflowers next spring.

I’m sure next week we will be seeing some more bowl entries. Will be interesting to see who comes out on top.

9 6 Miami Heat
10 7 BCS Bowl

So many racing puns, so little time… Suffice to say, the US Grand Prix takes the win this week, in what remained a relatively close battle with a very resurgent Taylor Swift. She had dropped to #10 last week after a strong debut, but leaps right back to the #2 spot this week. That leaves former champ 1D two spots out of contention. I wouldn’t worry about the boys, I suspect they’ll be reclaiming the crown soon enough.

Kinda-sorta-not-really out of nowhere, Aerosmith enters the countdown at #4. They’re playing the Frank Erwin Center tonight, so this bit of fortune isn’t really a surprise at all.

In spite of all the other changes in the top 5, the SEC championship holds steady at #5. The regular season of college football is drawing to a close, and soon the bowl frenzy will be upon us. This week the Cotton Bowl makes an appearance, while the BCS slips from #7 to #10. Get a jump on your friends and check out our Bowl game listings. Also enter this year’s TicketCity Bowl Contest for a chance for you and your three best friends to see your team play a bowl game!

Carrie Underwood debuts at #6 to start off the bottom five. She’s on the Blown Away Tour, covering North America between now and Summer 2013. She’s not slacking, the tour will rack up over 100 dates, making it a safe bet for one of the top tours of 2012 and 2013.

10 5 Taylor Swift

Despite all that horsepower the F1 racers couldn’t quite outrun One Direction. They got close, though. With the actual race next weekend, it will be interesting to see if the USGP can pull out a win against the fleet English boy band. The esteemed Mr. Bieber is left to spin his wheels in the #3 spot this week, and Maroon 5 pulls ahead, gaining two places to end up at #4. How are the racing puns working out for you?

With a little less than a month before the big bowl announcement weekend, we’ve got some eager post-season college football fans looking for the SEC Championship and the BCS Bowl. That action will only heat up in the next few weeks.

The NBA is looking a little stronger this week. The Heat climb up a few spots to open up the bottom five. Joining them this week are the Knicks, who debut at #9 on the countdown this season.

Both George Strait and Taylor Swift tumble this week, with Swift suffering the biggest fall. She lands at #10. Bit of a lull between now and when her Red concert tour officially starts next year. Fans in LA will have a chance to see her at the KIIS Jingle Ball on December 1st, though. You can check out all the holiday Jingle Ball concerts here.

Back to fill in another missing week. The conference championships have rocketed to the top in the past few days. The SEC won by a wide margin, but the volume on the ACC wasn’t too shabby. The Big Ten finds itself a little further down the list. Hard to say if the absence of the newly minted Pac-12 Championship has anything to do with their decision to keep everyone guessing on where it would be held until the last minute.

This is “announcement weekend,” so expect to see a lot of bowls on next week’s list. The BCS, fittingly, has been around for a few weeks now, and was joined this week by the Music City Bowl. Not one I’d have expected early buzz for, but we can certainly accommodate.

Rounding out the list we see Kentucky’s basketball team is getting some interest. With the almost-certain news the NBA lockout is over, we will see if the search momentum shifts to the pros over college teams. The revised NBA schedule isn’t out yet, but we’ll have listings once it’s officially announced.

Returning this week to chronicle the rise of Radiohead to the top of the countdown. Entering last week at #6 they quickly hit the top spot this week by a pretty solid margin. Since their tour doesn’t start up until next spring, we’ll see what kind of staying power the alt rockers have.

College football remained strong both weeks, though this week we see the end of the road is in sight. Both the ACC Championship and the SEC championship find spots this week. The big conference championship games are the gateway to bowl season, which kicks off with the December 4th selection show. The first bowls of the season are the New Mexico, Famous Idaho Potato, and New Orleans Bowls on December 17th.

Some other concert performers also made their way onto the countdown this week. Roger Waters is in full nostalgia mode with “The Wall Live Tour.” On the other end of the musical age spectrum we see Mac Miller slipping into the #10 spot. The young hip hop artist has been compared to Eminem, and his debut album, Blue Slide Park, hit #1 on release.
