Some shuffling in the top 5, but Drake holds on to #1 this week. Luke Bryan, one of a few performers who have been bouncing on and off the countdown for the past few month, bounced back to #2. He is followed by the Heat, who make a nice jump up from #7 as we’re moving deeper into the regular NBA season. The 2 time defending champs have racked up a 4-2 record so far.

George Strait and the Dallas Cowboys have to settle for slightly lower positions in the top five. George may not have kept the #1 spot, but he’s been a solid top five performer so far. So have the Cowboys for that matter, something new for them.

Returning much like Mr. Bryan, both Pink and Justin Timberlake re-re-re-re-enter the countdown at #6 and #7. Pink’s Truth About Love Tour is back on track after a little vocal rest and recuperation. The 20/20 Experience World Tour hasn’t slowed down at all; the next stop at the Izod Center.

The Knicks join the Heat this week, though not quite so high, and the WWE returns. Their bigger PPVs land earlier in the year, so fans may be grabbing tickets early for Survivor Series and Wrestlemania.

More survivors this week, and a small shuffle at the top. George Strait’s dream of a long stay in first place ended a bit early. He does end up at a very respectable #3, giving up the top spot to Drake, who returned only last week. The Cowboys also return. Their choppy run this year on the countdown is certainly different from previous years, though overall I believe they’ve been on the countdown more thanks to it.

Pearl Jam climbs to #4 and Kanye returns to the #5 spot. Bad news for Kanye fans, though, as he’s had to postpone some tour dates as the 60-foot circular LED screen used in the show was damaged in a highway accident while on the way to the Vancouver show. Anyone who thinks you can perform without a custom-made 60-foot circular LED screen simply doesn’t have the music in their, like, soul, man.

The 49ers’ solid run continues. While they’ve not really reached the top, they’ve been on the countdown for weeks now. The Heat return to remind us the NBA’s 2013-14 season is officially underway.

The National Finals Rodeo enters at #8 this week. The ten-day extravaganza of the best rodeo has to offer starts up December 5th at its usual home, The Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. I probably made the “When you think Las Vegas, rodeo is the first thing that comes to mind” joke every year at this point, so I’ll skip it this year.

Process of elimination suggests we’re going with Pearl Jam today. Their latest video and single is “Sirens.” The song holds up, but the video has a whiff of “not-trying” about it.

10 - Luke Bryan

No difference at the top, but the rest of the countdown experienced some big changes. George Strait holds down #1. It will be interesting to see if he can mount a One Direction-esque, months long stay at the top. Two weeks down, many more to go. Former number one Drake is knocking politely at that door as well, jumping one spot to second place.

The World Series drops in at #3. The Cardinals and the Red Sox are tied up at one game each, making game five a reality. Who will come out on top? I have no idea, fortunately we have others making far more educated guesses.

The 49ers, to use an inappropriate sports analogy, rebound to 4th place, where they are the final survivor of last week’s countdown. The shake-up, while major, didn’t deliver many completely new faces. This week’s college football entrant is Baylor, joined by the familiar faces of Jason Aldean, Peal Jam, JT, and Luke Bryan.

The one complete (I think) newcomer this week is Widespread Panic. They are playing ACL dates this weekend (the show, not the festival), so I’m pretty sure that’s what pushed them into the 9th spot. What can I say, the locals have a bit an affinity for jam bands.

Here they are doing a seven minute cover of a three-and-a-half minute song with a different song at the end. So, yeah, jam band…

Another week with a winner able to be seen from miles away. George Strait’s final tour gets underway early next year, and tickets have gone on sale, including for our little local venue, the Erwin Center. ACL hung in there, as it usually does for the week after it’s over, and Drake climbed up a few spots to make it to #3.

The Cowboys had to make room, but remained at a respectable #4, joined by Pearl Jam at #5. Their latest album, Lightning Bolt, arrived on (mostly digital) shelves on the 14th. The Lightning Bolt Tour is in full swing. Fans have until early December to catch them in North America before they enjoy the warm summer air in Australia in January.

Pink drops by once more. She rescheduled a few concerts for a little vocal cord rest, but the remainder of The Truth About Love Tour appears to be safe.

Elton returns, while the 49ers end up just one spot lower. Finally, the Dodgers hang on to the countdown, barely, while their NCLS hope hang by a similarly thin thread.

This week it’s obviously time for a little classic country, hand-picked by our office’s biggest George Strait fan:

The first notes of ACL Weekend Two’s Friday lineup should be drifting out of Zilker Park by the time I finish writing this. Some band called The Orwells, to be specific. ACL doesn’t hand out the coveted 11am Friday spot to just anyone, people. With two weekends this year, ACL allows me to recycle content as effectively as they recycle bands.

The Cowboys recycle their position on the countdown, while the NLCS bound Dodgers drop in to capture the third spot. Their NLCS series is with the Cardinals. The Tigers sowed up their ALDS matchup with Oakland last night, so they’re on to face the Red Sox in the ALCS.

The tradition of the Red River Rivalry continues this weekend, pushing it to the #4 spot, while the local touring production of Book of Mormon drops to the #5 spot.

Drake returns while George Strait falls a couple of spots, sharing a similar fate as Cher, who loses one as well. The 49ers continue drifting around the bottom five. The Tigers of LSU début this week, in 10th place, but it’s still a début.

This week we’re doing dealer’s choice on ACL performers, mostly because I’ve already posted videos for the other concert performers that ranked this week (I think). So I’m picking an old Neko Case song:
