Happy New Year. Fitting we start off with the top 3 playing musical chairs, as I have the impression this may go on for quite a while in 2013. At least through summer. I don’t know how long I’ll be able to go back to the 1D pun well for titles, so hopefully Miss Swift and Mister Beiber will prove up to the task of sharing the top spot.

Rounding out the top five are two bowl games that haven’t been played yet, but are very close. The BCS and Cotton Bowl effectively round out the college football season. You still have time to get your seats for the Fighting Irish’s return to the national championship game in Miami.

The bottom five has a couple bowl games that are already in the history books. Lots of searching over last weekend and, interestingly enough, New Years Day, helped the Orange and Sugar Bowls return to the countdown. Apparently lots of people shook off the previous evening’s revelries with some nice, quiet internet surfing.

The NFL playoffs will likely carve out a solid niche in the middle of the countdown in the coming month. This week the Redskins are the team of choice, plus, as usual, the goal of said playoffs, the Super Bowl. It will likely climb up a few notches from #10 as February 3rd nears.

The bowls certainly arrived this week. Pretty close to a clean sweep of the top 10, though a few tenacious concert performers hung on. On top, not particularly surprising, is the National Championship. The power of the first Fighting Irish national championship game in a long time easily overcame the other challengers. The Cotton Bowl arrives in second place, and 1D drops to #3. I’m sure if there was a Teen Heartthrob Bowl, they would be a shoe-in to win.

The Fiesta and Outback Bowls round out the top five. Noticeable due to its absence, the Rose Bowl is the only BCS match-up that didn’t make the Top 10. Judging by where it ended up on the full list, the Rose Bowl had about the same chance to make the Top 10 as Justin Beiber has to win a Grammy next year.

Taylor Swift leads off the bottom five. She’s been a solid, consistent presence on the countdown despite the fact that her Red Tour doesn’t even start until next spring. We will see if she can hold onto that boy-band-like momentum all the way through. Hanging in for another week, Clapton adds the punctuation to the list. Like Ms Swift, he won’t be on stages until March, but that’s not slowing him down at the moment.

10 8 Dallas Cowboys

As the list suggests, the college football bowl announcements arrived last Sunday night, just in time to almost completely take over the list. This is probably the most bowls I’ve seen on any list since keeping track. The bowl almost ran the board, but Cowboys fans would not be denied. They clung to the countdown at #10.

Diverse set in the top 5, kicking off with the venerable Cotton Bowl, now in Arlington, followed by the Music City Bowl, one that’s had strong buzz even before the teams were announced. Mississippi State and Wake Forest fans are looking forward to locking up in Nashville. The Alamo Bowl, another “local” favorite, rounds out the top 3, followed by the actual National Championship game at #4.

The bottom five kicks off with the Holiday Bowl. The big BCS bowls cluster down at the bottom of the list, with Orange, Sugar, and Fiesta all grouped together right over the Cowboys. For what it’s worth, the Rose Bowl would have been #12 on the list.

Sill have time to get your bowl tickets. Check out our full bowl list, and give us a call if you have any questions.

TicketCity’s Top-Selling Bowl Games: Hello, Music City Bowl

Bowl season has officially kicked off, but that hasn’t stopped the tickets from flying out of our office. This list represents the bowls that moved the most number of tickets in the past week, and it’s seen some movement. The Music City Bowl creeps into our top-five, and the Cotton Bowl regains its second spot on the list after a slight lull last week. The Cotton Bowl is also second only to the BCS Championship Game in terms of total reciepts.

Not too many changes this week. The top bowls shuffled a bit, and we have a couple new bowls entering the list, though much like that old Sesame Street bit, one of them is not like the others. The Cotton Bowl takes the #1 spot from the Sugar Bowl, which drops to #2, followed by the Rose Bowl and the National Championship Game, both which gained a some spots. Looks like the BCS has the top of the list all sown up.

We take a brief detour from unscripted athletic contests to allow the WWE to pop in at #5. There’s a show at the Erwin Center on the 20th, so certainly a local flavor to that placement. George Strait climbs to the #6 spot, also on local interest as his next tour kicks off here at the very same Erwin Center on January 14th.

That brings us to that other post season Bowl, the Super one, where the entrants are determined by a fairly straightforward playoff process. The Super Bowl happens in Arlington this year, up at the brand new home of the Dallas Cowboys.

Rounding out the list the Music City Bowl and Alamo Bowl make the cut this week, and Taylor Swift manages to hold on for another week with George Strait as the only other concert entry.
