1 2 Cotton Bowl
2 1 Sugar Bowl
3 5 Rose Bowl
4 3 BCS Bowl
5 - WWE
6 8 George Strait
7 - Super Bowl
8 - Music City Bowl
9 10 Alamo Bowl
10 9 Taylor Swift

Not too many changes this week. The top bowls shuffled a bit, and we have a couple new bowls entering the list, though much like that old Sesame Street bit, one of them is not like the others. The Cotton Bowl takes the #1 spot from the Sugar Bowl, which drops to #2, followed by the Rose Bowl and the National Championship Game, both which gained a some spots. Looks like the BCS has the top of the list all sown up.

We take a brief detour from unscripted athletic contests to allow the WWE to pop in at #5. There’s a show at the Erwin Center on the 20th, so certainly a local flavor to that placement. George Strait climbs to the #6 spot, also on local interest as his next tour kicks off here at the very same Erwin Center on January 14th.

That brings us to that other post season Bowl, the Super one, where the entrants are determined by a fairly straightforward playoff process. The Super Bowl happens in Arlington this year, up at the brand new home of the Dallas Cowboys.

Rounding out the list the Music City Bowl and Alamo Bowl make the cut this week, and Taylor Swift manages to hold on for another week with George Strait as the only other concert entry.

9 5 Taylor Swift
10 - Alamo Bowl

Always nice when a prediction pans out, and “more bowls on the way” certainly did. If not for a tenacious showing by country music’s biggest stars it would have been an all-bowl countdown. Interestingly, while the National Championship Game did climb a few spots, it didn’t end up on top this week. That went to the Sugar Bowl. The Ohio State vs. Arkansas matchup topped the list, followed by Texas A&M vs. LSU in the Cotton Bowl. The Auburn vs. Oregon championship game ended the week at #3.

Gator, Rose, Sun, and Texas follow. We are offered a short break from bowl mania as country heavyweights George Strait and Taylor Swift manage to hold onto the top 10. Strong performance, especially this week. We’ll see how well they do through the rest of the month. With George Strait’s tour opening right here in Austin, he certainly has a good shot at making it through the month without missing a week.

With Cotton, Sun, Texas, and Alamo all on the list, it does have a very Texas flavor. Bowl season kicks off December 18th, with the New Mexico, Humanitarian, and New Orleans bowl.

9 - Chick-fil-A Bowl

With only two survivors from last week, the countdown is starting the annual change for bowl season. Four bowls made it this week, with more to come. This weekend is the big announcement, where in most all bowl participants will be decided. One our biggest weekends of the year. Cotton Bowl is leading at the moment. With Texas A&M accepting the invite, it’s not surprising. The Big 12 championship, which will no doubt effect who ends up in the National Championship, arrives at #2, followed by the SEC Championship which fell from #1.

We get a short break from college football to allow George Strait to find a comfy spot after losing the #1 slot. He’s followed by Taylor Swift. Swift recently announced the Speak Now Tour in support of her latest album. This will probably be a hot ticket that keeps her on the countdown most of the summer.

Back to the bowls with Sugar and the big National Championship at 6 and 7. The BCS is out in sunny Phoenix this year, rotating through with the Fiesta Bowl.

More concerts as Lady Gaga returns to the countdown after a brief absence, though only making #8. Gaga is still touring overseas and won’t be stateside again until February. Kid Rock debuts on the countdown at #10. This is his first appearance and likley due to his recent touring announcement. He’ll be out on tour early in 2011 in support of his recently released Born Free album.

Two weeks out from the Bowl announcements sees the National Championship take over the top spot on the countdown handily. Last week’s champ the Rose Bowl tumbled all the way down to #7. Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber make for an odd combination at number 2 and 3, but certainly exemplify the tenacity of pop music fans in the face of college football’s most popular events. Taylor Swift remains in the top 5 as well, just below the Cotton Bowl, the only other top 5 Bowl.

The Bottom five is dominated by Bowls, all holdovers from last week with the exception of the Independence Bowl, which slides into the countdown as the Alamo Bowl slides out.

That brings us to this weeks’ newcomer, “Muse.” I’m guessing people aren’t searching for a Grace Jones album, an episode of Star Trek: Voyager, or the Multi Unit Spectroscopic Explorer… but a British alt rock band from Devon, England. Muse’s latest album, The Resistance, was released September 15th in the US. That concludes this week’s “fun with Wikipedia’s disambiguation page”.
