TicketCity Bowl Memories: Randy Cohen

Randy CohenUntil the college football post-season begins on December 18th, 2011, TicketCity will be running stories from our team members whose bowl memories live on. Today, company CEO Randy Cohen remembers a watching a great coach in Dallas… before he officially made his name there.

I’ve been to plenty of great post-season college football games during my time as TicketCity’s Chief Energizing Officer. I’ve been all across this great land of ours to watch outstanding games at the Fiesta, Rose, Alamo, Holiday and Orange Bowls. This year I’m adding a special notch on the list by attending the first ever TicketCity Bowl!

But even with all that time I’ve spent watching late-December and early-January college football, there’s one game I’ll always remember—the 1991 Cotton Bowl. It was a bone-chilling day in Dallas when the University of Miami (then under Jimmy Johnson) came in to take on my Texas Longhorns. The stadium was sold out and the energy was electric. When the teams finally came out on to the field, a fight broke between them. At that point, we knew it was going to be an amazing game. Instead, the Texas Longhorns fell apart and were destroyed by Miami 46-3. The Hurricanes played with the aggressive swagger they were known for in those days, and it left me (and I’m sure the team) a little humbled and totally in awe of how great Jimmy Johnson was.
