The Week in TicketCity Search – Ushered to the Front of the Line

TicketCity Week in Search

Week of
Mar. 3rd
1 - Usher
2 4 WWE
3 2 One Direction
4 5 Houston Rodeo
5 6 Luke Bryan
6 10 Tool
7 - Wicked
8 - ACC Tournament
9 - Austin Rodeo
10 - Texas Rangers

Some surprise and some variety in the countdown this week. Surprise: Usher. Head-scratcher? Less than might be imagined. He is playing the Houston Rodeo this very day, in fact. Apparently there is a bit of pent-up demand for a live Usher show in Houston. The WWE and their upcoming swing through Texas make it to second place, while One Direction finally returns to their favorite position, third.

The Houston Rodeo comes in at fourth, along with Rodeo performer Luke Bryan at fifth. Houston isn’t alone this week, as the Austin Rodeo squeezes into the ninth place. Houston and Austin run somewhat concurrently, but Houston is usually the bigger show.

Wicked returns after a long absence. I’m pretty sure the last time the show appeared on the countdown coincided with the last time it visited Austin, as it is doing once more. Performances at the Bass Concert Hall continue through this weekend, then it will bid Austin, and this countdown, farewell.

The sound of sharpening pencils slowly grows to a deafening roar as March Madness approaches. The ACC Tournament reminds us of this at #8 this week. The conference tournaments get underway next week followed by “Selection Sunday” on the 16th.

While ordinarily it would be pretty much a slam dunk to bring you an Usher video this week, I need to remind the readership that Mr. Raymond IV is the man who signed one Bieber, Justin. For that, there must be consequences. Those consequences are, so far, not getting a video in this blog post… and truckloads of money. So, I guess, 50/50 on that one.

So, dealer’s choice, here’s Fun. with “Some Nights”, about which everything is awesome:

The Week in TicketCity Search – November 12th

TicketCity Week in Search

1 - Garth Brooks
2 9 Bon Jovi
3 1 Justin Bieber
4 - Big 12 Championship
5 6 Texas Longhorns
6 - Usher
7 3 Prince
8 - George Lopez
9 - Rebelution
10 - WWE

Another big week of changes. Checking my holographic interferometer it doesn’t appear reality has been reset to the 90′s, yet there’s Garth Brooks atop the countdown. Garth is playing a set of concerts in Nashville at the Bridgestone Arena in December, and fans have responded. Nine concerts so far, so ample seats available to get in and see one of country music’s most successful performers. Following Garth is another act with a slight hint of nostalgia going for it, Bon Jovi, who climbs to #2.

The esteemed Mr. Bieber tumbles to 3 in all this, followed by the Big 12 Championship, which less than a month away now. I’m sure the SEC Championship won’t be far behind on the countdown as December, and the subsequent Bowl announcements, nears.

That brief detour through the sporting world returns us to concerts, where Usher returns to the countdown after a long absence. He will be in Houston and Dallas later this month. Prince drops a bit from his #3 debut, but hangs in there at #7. Price is followed by comedian George Lopez, who is playing locally on the 13th.

That leads to “Rebelution”, which Wikipedia suggests could be a couple things, so I’m going to guess it’s the Reggae band from Santa Barbara, CA. Must have some buzz going for them, since their shows haven’t passed through locally, yet they’ve earned a spot on the countdown.

The Week in TicketCity Search – October 22

Catching up this week, and an interestingly auspicious one it is, as it appears we’ve gone two weeks without the esteemed Mr. Beiber on the countdown. That of course, is nearly as impressive as the performance of the Texas Rangers, who went from 2nd to 1st over the past couple weeks by turning in a performance that few would probably admit they expected. They are one win away from their first trip to the World Series. That will probably end up being a pretty big deal up in Dallas.

In other sporting news the Breeder’s Cup is a bit more popular this year, climbing the charts from 9 to 4. It’s a two day event, scheduled for November 5th and 6th, so ample time to get your tickets. On the football side of things, both the Longhorns and the Cowboys appeared this week, though at opposite ends of the list. We do draw closer to the postseason for both college and pro football. The NCAA conference championships are always big, and a good warm up to bowl season in December.

Shakira hangs in at #5 for a couple weeks, similar to other concert performers, Usher, Roger Waters, and Phish. Phish are enjoying a Beiber-like run for weeks now. Comedian Aziz Ansari came through town this week, and made it to #6 on the countdown as a result.

1 2 Texas Rangers
2 - Texas Longhorns
3 - World Series
4 9 Breeders Cup
5 5 Shakira
6 - Aziz Ansari
7 4 Usher
8 8 Roger Waters
9 3 Phish
10 - Dallas Cowboys

October 15th

1 1 ACL Festival
2 - Texas Rangers
3 6 Phish
4 - Usher
5 10 Shakira
6 4 Lady Gaga
7 - Rammstein
8 - Roger Waters
9 - Breeders Cup
10 7 WWE

The Week in TicketCity Search – September 24th

No surprise ACL remains at the #1 spot, though it seems Phish fans have figured out that it’s better to just search for the festival instead of the band. Rush fans have stepped up as the band is moving through Texas this weekend. After an absence that is due, I’m sure, to the fact that the Monster Ball Tour is now overseas, Lady Gaga returns to the countdown as a date in our own little town is announced.

We won’t forget that it’s still football season, though, as the Longhorns gain a rank and the Razorbacks drop in to the list at #7. Between them we have some fresher concert performers. Usher, who has been on the list in the past, is touring in support of his recent album Versus.

According to my watch, it doesn’t seem to be 1995, but the Smashing Pumpkins are on the countdown at #6. Wikipedia suggests these are not your father’s Pumpkins. No matter, Billy Corgan is still there and he’s part of one of my favorite gags of the Simpsons‘ “Homerpalooza” episode.

Drake climbs a couple spots, over the esteemed Mr. Bieber, whose fortunes have taken a hit again this week. That leaves us with Kings of Leon, who sneak into the #10 slot after a long absence.

1 1 ACL Festival
2 8 Rush
3 - Lady Gaga
4 5 Texas Football
5 - Usher
6 - Smashing Pumpkins
7 - Arkansas Football
8 10 Drake
9 3 Justin Bieber
10 - Kings of Leon
