Get to know Texas’ new head coach Charlie Strong

School president Bill Powers pronounced it a “historic day for the University of Texas.”  Charlie Strong accepted the position of head coach of the Longhorns on Saturday and faced his first official press conference this morning.

So what does Strong bring to Texas?  In the infographic below we’ve pulled together highlights from Strong’s career as both a player and a coach, including his last four years as head coach as Louisville where he achieved a 37-15 record.

Father-Son Time Gets Even Sweeter with a Visit from Kevin Durant

Here at TicketCity, we love to creat unforgettable experiences for our customers. We achieve this in many ways, oftentimes helping to find just the right seats to the game or show to which a fan has anxiously been counting down the days. Other times we plan VIP experiences that even the rich and famous would envy.

But sometimes, as in the case of Keith from Austin, fate steps in to help make an already amazing experience that much better.

Keith came to TicketCity for tickets to the TicketCity Legends Classic basketball game between Texas and Rhode Islande yesterday. Since the start time of the game was 3:00 p.m., Keith had decided to check his son, Ryder, out of school early to make a father-son day out of it. We never could have predicted what happened next. Below is the e-mail we received from Keith describing their experience.

“I surprised my 6 year old son by pulling him from school early and making it a father/son afternoon. Well what transpired after that was unreal. We got to the stadium a bit early, and were identified by a UT rep and asked to come down and sit in the recliners court side. My son Ryder is a huge Kevin Durant fan and was wearing his OKC jersey at the game. Lo and behold, 5 minutes later Kevin Durant came up to him and introduced himself to my son. I’ve attached a pic.   Thanks again for your generosity…we made memories yesterday that will last a life time!”

Now that is one father-son day that will be hard to beat! We are thrilled to have played a small part in making this happen. A special thanks to Keith for sharing his story and picture with us. Do you have an unforgettable experience of your own you’d like to share? We’d love to hear about it!

UT’s Newest Longhorn

Recently, a BYU alum that now resides in Austin contacted TicketCity looking for tickets to the Texas versus BYU game. Since his alma mater was playing in Austin, he wanted to take his son to his first college football game to experience the excitement first-hand.

While our client’s son started off the game cheering for BYU, things quickly changed as the crowd joined in the “Texas Fight” cheer. Check out the video below to see how UT earned its newest longhorn. Looks like our client’s son may not be a second-generation BYU Cougar afterall. Enjoy!

View From the Seats: UT vs. FAU at DKR Memorial Stadium

What an excellent weekend of college football! Alabama upset Clemson, East Carolina surprised Virginia Tech with a blocked punt win, and the Longhorns beat FAU. Despite not being able to carry my super awesome Canon 5D camera into DKR, I nabbed some interesting shots with my girlfriend’s camera phone from the University of Texas vs. Florida Atlantic University game. Below are some panoramas/pics taken prior to and during the UT – FAU game.

First Tailgate of the Season

It was an absolute  privilege to tailgate with some true Longhorn fans this Saturday, including ex-players Roderick Babers and Octavious Bishop.  The first tailgate of the 2008 season – a practice tailgate in appreciation of all Longhorn fans – was a success.  With a little cloud cover and some neighbors, we all had  food, drinks and fun under the TicketCity canopy.  Not to mention, Rafael’s oversized Jenga was a blast!  A special “thank you” goes out to Chris and the NFL Alumni for putting this together, the UT Longhorn footballers who came and showed their support, and Rafael here at TicketCity for putting us right in the action.  Now, time for some pictures:
