The reign of bowls came to a quick end this week. Concert performers surged back, rounding out the top five with three hot acts. Both the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Coldplay haven’t been seen on the countdown for quite a while, though mostly because they haven’t been touring. That’s set to change in 2012, as both bands are hitting the road for tours that are shaping up to be huge sellers.

Starting off the bottom five we have the Houston Texans, who are set to head into uncharted territory: the postseason. The recently minted franchise has come out on top of the AFC South, and will be playing for their first shot a Super Bowl.

The NBA returned recently, but they didn’t make a huge splash on the countdown until this week. Last season’s champions, the Mavericks, appear at #7, followed closely by their championship rivals, the Miami Heat. TicketCity has the updated NBA schedules available for all teams, click here and select your team.

The Dave Matthews Band shoots to top 3 out of nowhere, knocking out Cirque, who falls down to #7. Gaga climbs up a spot but still isn’t able to knock the esteemed Mr. Bieber off the top. The WWE remains solid at #4 as their Texas dates draw closer; we will probably be seeing more of them for at least another couple of weeks.

The Man U tour in the states rounds out the top 5. Their match against the Kansas City Wizards is this Sunday, and the tour wraps up with the big game against the MLS All-Stars next Wednesday in Houston. Don’t let World Cup fatigue get to you, there’s still time to get tickets for both and catch this unique experience.

Wicked boomerangs back into the countdown once more, leading off the bottom five, where we find Cirque and the Longhorns, who drop a couple spots from their #6 debut last week. Rush peeks in at nine, leading us to the first complete newcomer to the countdown we’ve had in a long time. To Wikipedia!

Trey Songz is an R&B/soul singer from Petersburg, VA, which is a few miles south of my own hometown, Richmond. He first released material under the alias “Prince of Virginia,” which is interesting, because I wasn’t even aware the position had been filled. Since I moved I just haven’t been keeping up with news out of my native commonwealth. Mr. Songz is prepping for the release of his latest album Passion, Pain & Pleasure on September 14th, and is embarking on the Passion, Pain & Pleasure Tour to promote it.

The Week in TicketCity Search – July 9th

The Lady ascends to the top spot, where she will probably remain for the rest of the month as her concert dates in central Texas rapidly approach. Still time to get your tickets for the shows Dallas and Houston. The esteemed Mr. Bieber has fallen to #2 and we’ll see how well he does the remainder of the year. He won’t be back to our little slice of Texas until next November.

The World Cup, fever for which has only managed to catapult it to #3, is nearly over. Take heart, though, if you’re looking for your soccer fix in slightly more accessible locations, you can always check out Manchester United touring the US for some friendly matches later this month.

Wicked tour in Houston remains popular, climbing up a spot as Aventura falls from the number 2 spot as their tour departs for more far off, exotic places… like East Rutherford, New Jersey. The Cirque events return this week after dropping out; demand certainly seems to be somewhat fickle for these shows. Michael Buble gains a few notches as he heads towards some central Texas dates in Houston, San Antonio, and Dallas.

That leaves the Yankees, who pop back in to the countdown instead of the Rays this week, and countdown favorites Tool and Phish, both of whom have a talent for appearing and disappearing week to week. This is an “appear” week, we will see what happens next week.

The Week in TicketCity Search – July 2nd

The concert performers have mostly returned to the top 5. Sure, Wicked popped back into the number five spot, but that’s close enough for me. The Esteemed Mr. Bieber retakes the top spot from Tool, who, as expected, are nowhere to be found after their tour departed central Texas. Likewise, Aventura’s leg through Central Texas is also in full swing, and their second place showing is a direct result. Lady Gaga isn’t scheduled to show up around here for a few weeks but she’s already firmly back in the top 3.

New to the countdown is Eminem, who’s recently released album Recovery is a bright spot for the plastic disc industry, appears at #4. This is his first showing on the countdown. Having been off the touring circuit for a while, it seems fans are hungry for some live shows. Only two have been announced so far, both in September and both in stadiums: Commerica Park and Yankee Stadium.

Rounding out the bottom of the countdown are some returning faces and the World Cup, which continues without the US team. Dave Matthews, Rush, and Michael Buble, all return, while the Rays remain steady at #9 for reasons unknown to me.

The Week in TicketCity Search – June 18th

Well, it would seem Bieber-mania has hit Central Texas as not only did the esteemed Mr. Bieber top the countdown this week, he did with with a decisiveness rarely seen. No stranger to the top 3 of late, Mr. Bieber swept away the competition with 3x the total of this week’s #2, The College World Series. The CWS is set to kick off in Omaha this weekend, so that’s a pretty impressive feat. Coming in at #3 is a championship event with word “world” in it that really means it, the World Cup. Rounding out the championship trifecta are the NBA Finals, which went seven games and thus wont be figuring in next weeks countdown.

Tool rounds out the top 5, bouncing back from #10 in the process and leading us to Cirque Du Soleil. Since the term is particularly broad, and there are “a lot” of Cirque shows, I’m going to have to guess the Alegria touring production up in Houston is the root of this sudden interest. Not sure what this particular show is about, but I’m going out on a limb and guess it involves a large number of French Canadian people moving around in brightly colored clothing. For the more traditional theatre-going crowd, Wicked remains on the countdown as well.

Rounding things out we have a diva block at the end with Cher and Lady Gaga. Gaga fell again from the top 5 and I’m at a loss to explain the sudden interest in Cher’s Vegas show. There seems to be no news about it ending, or anything like that.
