The Man from Mars remains on top this week. The WWE climbs into second place, but they can’t seem to make to the top rope. What is the most mildly amusing of all is One Direction’s extension of their reign in 3rd place. An odd achievement, but I suppose it’s better than holding onto 10th place. Tune in next week to see if they can remain in 3rd place!

Hmmm, not quite the dramatic tension I was hoping for…

Tool makes another appearance after a long absence. The alt metal rockers have new tour dates this March. Fans eagerly await a promised new album, but despite rumors over a year old, there’s only fresh rumors due to the tour at this point. They’re known for putting on great live shows, so this is one that should attract more attention as the first date draws near.

Billy Joel rounds out the top five with a two point jump. Katy Perry ends up in the bottom five after a three point loss. The Yankees reappear, not only because Spring Training is a couple of weeks off, but thanks to the recent news of Derek Jeter’s retirement this season. Expect the already high Yankees ticket prices to go even higher.

Imagine Dragons did pop up a while back, when I posted the epic vid for “Radioactive.” Since I can’t use that again (it’s a rule, trust me, I made it), here is the video for their latest single “Demons.” The song is decent, but the video is basically live concert footage inter-cut with the human version of one of those Sarah McLachlan ASPCA ads. Suffice to say, my heartstrings are heavily resentful of attempted pluckification.

Bruno Mars returns big this week, winning over the very event that gave him something of a bump. Fresh off the Super Bowl halftime show, the second leg of the Moonshine Jungle Tour is red hot. He didn’t even get paid for that gig (which wasn’t a big deal, no one ever does). Those last-minute Super Bowl searches last week weren’t able to secure the top spot from its very own halftime star. Yet again in 3rd, One Direction bides their time.

Katy slips to #4 thanks to the run on Bruno, and Mötley Crüe rounds out the top 5. They’re hitting the countdown for what promises to the last time, at least if you believe the press releases. Mötley Crüe embarks on “The Final Tour” this summer, after which they will officially retire. Forever. Or at least as long as they can make a living from solo projects. Their umlauts will be retired in a separate ceremony.

The WWE slips to #6, while one William Martin Joel returns to #7 this week. His spring touring dates are the most he’s done in quite some time. Once they’re done, Joel fans will have the opportunity to see him once a month at Madison Square Garden “indefinitely”. Kind of like a Vegas residency, just not in Vegas, and with a lot fewer shows, and possibly in a way that suggests his entire career up to that point is not a setup for the punchline that is “Vegas Residency.”

Rounding out the top ten are three dudes in cowboy hats.

Tough week for a video. Just posted Bruno, and I think I’ve already found the least-objectionable Mötley Crüe video and posted it with the tour announcement. So more Joel on tap. How ’bout getting your Friday off to hi-energy start with “Piano Man”!

9 - X Games
10 - Miley Cyrus

Big shuffle this week that puts Katy Perry in the top spot. She’s still a long way off from her summer Prismatic Tour, but excitement is building. By the time she hits North American shores, she’ll have to be less warmly dressed than football fans at MetLife Stadium this weekend. The Super Bowl couldn’t quite top Miss Perry, but lands in second place. We’ll see if this weekend’s searches can secure it a top spot next week. 1D once more ends up in 3rd place. If history is any guide they’ll be striking out for the top spot again in no time.

The WWE reaches the 4th spot as the journey down the Road to Wrestlemania begins in earnest. Luke Bryan tumbles from the top this week and lands in fifth place, followed by George Strait, who rebounds from his rough patch at #10 last week.

This week’s newcomers round out the countdown. ‘Tis the season for large vehicles and even larger tires. The Monster Jam is upon us, and fans have ample opportunity to see their favorites in action at arenas all over the country.

Coming to Austin for 2014, the Summer X-Games will be at the Circuit of the Americas this June. Featuring the usual selection of “extreme” sports, the Austin X-Games will also offer a large slate of musical performers. Headliners at the track’s Austin360 Amphitheater include Kanye West and the Flaming Lips.

Miley Cyrus returns this week at #10. Outside of one appearance a couple weeks or so ago, she’s been absent since her Jingle Ball appearances. Even the Bangerz Tour announcement didn’t really result in much traction. Still, said Bangerz dates approach rapidly, with things starting off in Vancouver soon. I know you’re thinking… isn’t “modern Miley” a tad “racy”? Fear not, I have a secret weapon: Ryan Secrest. Turns out he told her to, and I may be paraphrasing, “tone that crap down” for the New Year’s show. So here is PG(ish) Miley from her appearance on New Year’s Rockin’ Eve:

10 1 George Strait

Interesting shake-up this week, with modern country securing the top spot and classic country taking a pretty big tumble. Luke Bryan makes the leap from #5 to snatch the crown from George Strait who hangs on, but only barely, at #10. Bryan is again part of the summer Country Megaticket shows, and judging by his performance here, the most anticipated among a strong group of performers.

Not only part of the Megaticket, Luke will be showing up at the #2 spot as well. The Houston Rodeo makes a strong climb from #7 last week. With little more than a month to go, expect some strong showings from the Rodeo in the coming weeks.

As mentioned earlier this week, Katy Perry’s new tour will be hitting North America this June. The Prismatic Tour is currently in Europe, but will be spending most of the summer in the US and Canada, wrapping up in Houston in October.

In what I can only assume is a bit of halo effect from “current events,” the Esteemed Mr. Bieber returns to our hallowed countdown halls. Not sure if the lack of any concert dates is a disappointment or a relief to the intrepid searchers…

Tradition demands I use a Katy Perry vid since she debuted on the countdown this week. I already posted the new one in the tour update, so we’re back to “Roar” now. The video is the touching story of a plane crash survivor learning to make her way in the jungle, and make clothes out of salad. The best fact I know about the video is that Katy Perry has a real pet cat named Kitty Purry, who is not the tiger in this video (or any other tiger, for that matter).

The Week in TicketCity Search – The Houston Rodeo Has Bands, Literally

10 - Jason Aldean

George wins the week, with 1D falling to #3 thanks to a little more football fever. The Seahawks bid for the NFC championship shoots them to second place. They have home field advantage against the Niners this Sunday. Still time to pick up tickets to the game if you’re going to be in The 206 this weekend. Spoiler alert, there is a chance of rain. Those looking a little deeper into the playoffs pushed the Super Bowl up #6 this week.

Coachella gains three to land at #4. I suspect it will depart soon, as the actual shows are still a few months off. The post-announcement honeymoon is coming to a close. Familiar faces return this week, chief among them Luke Bryan. He is joined by countdown favorites Justin Timberlake and Jason Aldean a little further down the list.

The Houston Rodeo make this year debut in the seventh spot as the full concert schedule dropped this week. As usual, big names abound, including the aforementioned Mr. Bryan as well as the Eli Young Band, Usher, Maroon 5, Robin Thicke, and Keith Urban. Brad Paisley gets things started on 4th, and the Zac Brown Band will close things out on the 23rd.

Almost closing out the Houston Rodeo is The Band Perry, who will be performing on the 22nd of March. If you’re counting, and I am, that’s three “Bands” in the lineup this year. Instead of posting the insufferable promo video of them doing the Houston Rodeo line-up announcement, let’s just watch a video. This video is, I’ll say… “inspired by” the game of chess. Raises some questions about the artistic director’s familiarity with the fan base. On the other hand, it’s people running at either and then punching, so maybe I take that back.
