Top Acts of ACL 2014
The Austin City Limits Music Festival is finally upon us. After a year of waiting, some of the world’s finest musicians and performers will be descending upon Zilker Park to put on one of the greatest festivals in the United States. The festivities start this Friday, October 3rd, and will take place Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of this weekend before kicking right back off next Friday, October 10th, for another three fun-filled days of entertainment.
The median ticket price for 2014 ACL tickets during Week 1 is $281 for a 3-day pass. That pass gets you access to the grounds for Friday-Sunday and is 8% cheaper than if you were to buy an individual pass for all three days. Right now, the median ticket price for a Friday pass is $88, $149 for a Saturday only pass, and $66 for a Sunday only pass. As you can see, Sunday is the cheapest by a considerable amount with Saturday the most expensive of the three days.
The first acts will take the stage at 11:15 Friday morning with Arum Rae and the Barton Hills Choir kicking off festivities. Those are just two of the forty-one performers expected to take to one of the eight stages on Friday. Some of the more popular and well-known performers will begin at 2:15 with Capital Cities taking the stage, followed by Sam Smith at 5:15 and Foster the People at 6:15.
Friday evening will cap off with Outkast and Beck both playing simultaneously at 8:15pm.
Saturday starts off just as early with acts beginning at 11:15am. Some of the highlights of the Saturday schedule include Icona Pop and Iggy Azalea performing at 5:15pm with Lana Del Rey and the Avett brothers following them at 6:30.
The primary reason for the increase in median ticket price for Saturday’s session is the night time performers with Skrillex and Eminem taking to the stage to cap off the day. Eminem collaborated with Rihanna this past year for “The Monster Tour” which successfully sold out several stadiums, including the Rose Bowl in Pasadena.
Sunday’s top performers include Chromeo and Zedd at 7pm, followed by Calvin Harris and Pearl jam for the nightcap. To see those four performers alone for only $66 is a pretty remarkable deal. And when you consider there will be another thirty-seven acts, $66 is quite the bargain.
One of the best parts of the Austin City Limits Music Festival is being able to listen to some of today’s best musicians who you’ve never even heard of. For example, the Consequence of Sound broke down ten of the best Americana, Country, and Folk performers expected to play this weekend, including Imelda May, Robert Ellis, and Asleep at the Wheel.
And there’s certainly other performers to be found from all genres of music, whether it’s electronica, Jazz, or pop.
