2014 MLS Cup Playoffs down to 4 Teams
Just four teams remain in Major League Soccer as we advance further and further towards the MLS Cup. In the eastern conference, it will be the New York Red Bulls versus the New England Revolution and in the Western Conference, it will be the Los Angeles Galaxy versus the Seattle Sounders.
Below is a preview for each matchup with ticket data provided for each game:
Eastern Conference: New England Revolution vs. New York Red Bulls
Game 1 – November 23, 2014 @ New York | Red Bull Arena – Harrison, New Jersey | Average ticket price = $88 | Get-in ticket price = $29
Game 2 – November 29, 2014 @ New England | Gillette Stadium – Foxborough, Massachusetts | Average ticket price = $89 | Get-in ticket price = $30
The New York Red Bulls will face the New England Revolution in the Eastern Conference Finals. The Red Bulls will be making their first appearance in the conference finals since 2008. They advanced on a 3-2 aggregate score over D.C. United, the first time they had beaten D.C. since 1996 and the first time they had beaten them in five postseason meetings.
The New England Revolution looked particularly impressive in the semifinals, disposing of the Columbus Crew on an aggregate score of 7-3. They opened with a 4-2 victory at Columbus and could have advanced with a loss in the second leg of the series, but won easily 3-1 to advance to the next round.
The Revolution are certainly the favorites with their impressive showing against Columbus, but fans looking to attend will find very similar prices at either game. The first leg will be at New York and currently Red Bulls tickets have an average price of $88 and a get-in price of $29 on the secondary market. It’s just a tad more when they play six days later at New England with MLS Eastern Conference tickets starting at $30 and an average price of $89.
Western Conference: Los Angeles Galaxy vs. Seattle Sounders
Game 1 – November 23, 2014 @ Los Angeles | StubHub Center – Carson, California | Average ticket price = $112 | Get-in ticket price = $41
Game 2 – November 30, 2014 @ Seattle | CenturyLink Field – Seattle Washington | Average ticket price = $132 | Get-in ticket price = $51
Unlike the Red Bulls and Revolution, the Seattle Sounders just skated by FC Dallas 1-1, advancing on the away goals tiebreaker. Seattle and Dallas tied the first game 1-1 in Dallas, and then a scoreless draw in Seattle was enough to move the Sounders on to the conference finals.
The Los Angeles Galaxy were in a similar situation heading into the second leg of their semifinals series against Real Salt lake after drawing 0-0 in the first game in Utah. But the Galaxy put up five goals and shut out their opponents in the second leg, advancing onward. They’ll meet the Sounders in a high-profile matchup with several stars taking the field. Clint Dempsey and Deandre Yedlin headline the Sounders roster with Landon Donovan and Robbie Keane on the Galaxy side. Expect a close battle and a series that will most likely be determined by a goal or two.
Currently, Sounders tickets are a bit more expensive in Seattle with an average price of $132 on the secondary market. That’s twenty dollars more expensive than Game 1 in Los Angeles.
