What to do at the 2015 Big 12 Basketball Tournament

The 2015 Big 12 Men’s Basketball Tournament in Kansas City is one of the top events of the year in college basketball. Once again the Kansas Jayhawks enter as the number 1 seed on the Big 12 Tournament Bracket, with Iowa State and Baylor hot on the Jayhawks heels. Teams like the Texas Longhorns and Kansas State Wildcats will likely need multiple wins in the tournament, or even a tournament championship to punch their ticket to March Madness. While the basketball is certainly the top draw, there are a number of fun attractions in the area that fans attending the Big 12 Basketball Championship should check out. Here is our guide to some of the top things to do in Kansas City during the tournament.

Power & Light District

One of the top attractions in Kansas City happens to be right across the street from the Sprint Center in Kansas City. The Kansas City Power & Light District is loads of fun and includes places to eat, drink, and shop. During the Big 12 Tournament the Power & Light District will be packed, with fans from all 10 Big 12 schools. I have listed a couple of our favorite places in the District below.

Favorite Bar:
Living Room/KC Beer Garden

Favorite Restaurant:
McFadden’s Sports Saloon

During the Big 12 Basketball Tournament much of the Power & Light District taken over by the Miller Lite Basketball Fan Fest. The Fan Fest takes place inside of KC Live and includes pep rallies, contests, giveaways, food, and drinks. It is the perfect way to hangout before and after games at the Sprint Center. KC Live! is one of the nations largest country bars, and the fan fest is free to attend. The fest is open until 9pm daily for all visitors, and is 21 and up after 9.

Kansas City Big 12 Run

One of the coolest events surrounding the 2015 Big 12 Men’s Basketball Tournament is the Big 12 Run. Kicking off on Saturday, March 14th at 10 am (CST), the Big 12 run includes a 5k and 12k. Both courses wind around beautiful downtown Kansas City and start and finish within walking distance to the Sprint Center. Many of the participants will be sporting their Big 12 school’s colors and it is a great way to see the city, stay active, and maybe even show up a few of your rival school’s alumni. While the majority of the participants will be running for fun, the runners that finish first in each category will receive prizes which includes Big 12 Men’s Basketball Championship game tickets. Fans can enter to run here.
