Your Guide to All-Things Coachella
If you’re any kind of fan of music, LIVE music or music festivals, odds are you’ve heard of Coachella.
And odds are, it’s on your bucket list. Sure, it’s a bit pricey for a three-day pass (there are two weekends to choose from), but we’ve yet to run across anyone who says they regret going to this epic festival.
Coachella is an annual music and arts festival that boasts some of the biggest names in rock, Indie, hip-hop and electronic music. This will be the festival’s fifth year as a two-weekend event, spurred by its popularity and record numbers.
Coachella Lineup 2016
Coachella 2016 headliners include Guns N’ Roses, LCD Soundsystem, and Calvin Harris with a number of other high-powered performers scheduled to take the stage. The highly anticipated Guns N’ Roses reunion marks the first show for the band’s co-founders since 1993 and the legendary rock band is one of the most talked about aspects of this year’s lineup.
The outdoor musical festival, which just so happens to be the worlds highest-grossing festival, takes place at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, and has been going since 1999 and getting stronger every year. (Here is a history of past Coachella events.) Last year’s Coachella grossed “a staggering $84,264,264 in ticket sales from a total of 198,000 tickets sold, both records,” according to the popular music platform Billboard.com.
We love this outlook on the major festival that is Coachella via a recent article from Consequence of Sound: “As 21st century consumers, we demand that everything we want be within immediate reach, and music festivals represent a uniquely satisfying response to that demand.” The article (linked above) goes on to state reasons why music lovers shouldn’t give up on festivals like Coachella, no matter how big they get or who runs them, and their reasons are extremely poetic and sensible.
No other music festival crosses so many genres, reaching fans of all ages and locations than Coachella. Coachella isn’t all about the music, it’s about getting to know people, celebrating one of the best art forms in today’s society (music), and embracing many different cultures. It’s where you’ll fall in love all over again with your favorite music and even give yourself a chance to fall in love with new artists and genres. And perhaps a nearby concertgoer. You never know.

Probably the best plug/summary of Coachella for this year comes from Red Bull – “Think about the stereotypical fans of LCD Soundsystem, Guns N’ Roses and Calvin Harris. Now imagine thousands of them out in the middle of nowhere with tons of party supplies and very little water. For two consecutive weekends. Welcome to the jungle. Except it’s the desert.”
