Out with the Old, in with the New Hard Rock Stadium

As we head into the 2016-2017 season for NFL and NCAA Football, fans will encounter a fresh experience when they visit The New Miami Stadium. Previously called the Sun Life Stadium, the home games for the Miami Hurricanes and Miami Dolphins will look quite different with a number of changes being made over the last two years totaling $450 million in renovations. The New Miami Stadium will not only be the home for the Miami Dolphins and Miami Hurricanes but also the site for the annual Orange Bowl, College Football Playoff Semi-Final and Championship, premier soccer matches, festivals and concerts. The enhancement of the New Miami Stadium has resulted in the return of the Super Bowl in 2020, which will be a significant event for the NFL as it will be the 100th anniversary.

In 2015, the first step of the renovations launched by replacing every orange seat in the stadium with new aqua green seats, improving the 100/300 levels concourses and food and introducing some of the new seating experiences. The additional renovations in 2016 that are being completed include the installments of a new state-of-the-art open-air canopy, four HD video boards and a considerably enhanced audio system. The canopy will provide 92% of fans shade during any game following an afternoon kickoff times. Each corner of the New Miami Stadium will have strategically placed 1,472-inch high-definition screens, providing easily accessible views for every fan.

The seating capacity in the New Miami Stadium will decrease to an approximate 65,326 seats, about 10,000 less than the previous Sun Life Stadium. With the realignment of seating lowering the overall capacity comes the addition of sideline seats bringing fans 24 feet closer to the field, leaving a 56 feet gap between the sideline and field.

The schedule for the Dolphins and Hurricanes has been announced and fans have been reserving their spots for the exciting season. The 2016-2017 average ticket price for a Miami Dolphins home game is $109, with the highest priced matchup being against the Steelers with an average ticket price of $274. For the Miami Hurricanes, the average ticket price this upcoming season is $37. Although the overall averages seem low over the season for the Hurricanes, the highly anticipated game against the Florida State Seminoles in Miami has spiked ticket prices to an average of $179.

The Miami Dolphins vs. the Atlanta Falcons’ preseason game has been moved to Orlando due to slight construction delays for the New Miami Stadium, but come September 1st the stadium doors should be ready to open for an exciting season in their new home.
