Bowl Attendance Figures in Texas

The Houston Chronicle published an interesting article this morning titled Bowls Feel Pinch of Sluggish Economy discussing this season’s bowl game attendance.

According to the article, the economy has impacted ticket sales and attendance numbers are down, but only slightly. However, the Cotton Bowl set a record high for attendance this year after hosting Lubbock’s Texas Tech vs Ole Miss.

Here are the attendance numbers for bowl games in Texas:

Bowl Game 2008 Season Attendance 2007 Season Attendance Stadium Capacity
Alamo Bowl 55,986 66,000 (sold out) 65,000
Armed Forces Bowl 41,127 40,905 44,000
Cotton Bowl 88,175 73,114 92,200
Texas Bowl 58,880 62,097 71,054
Sun Bowl 49,037 49,867 51,500

Speculation for tonight’s Fiesta Bowl attendance remains positive as the Texas Longhorns take on the Ohio State Buckeyes. Though demand for BCS National Championship tickets is low compared to previous years, attendance at the final game of the year is also expected to be strong.
