Can I bring my bag in? | The NHL Bag Policy

For the majority of NHL venues, their bag and prohibited items policies are uniform.  There are some outliers and this post is to help you be prepared when you’re heading out for a game.

The biggest change in terms of security and safety in recent years has been the types and size of bags that are allowed into an arena. While some teams only listed “over-sized bags” as prohibited, most teams have a bag size of 14”x14”x6” as the limit. Backpacks are prohibited across the league. Other objects prohibited by most or all teams include coolers, “over-sized flags or signs”, wrapped gifts or sealed parcels, laser pointers, noisemakers, self-defense spray, inflatable objects, poles or sticks (either attached to signs or not), or promotional materials.

Below are teams with bag and sign sizes and prohibited items specific to their venue:

Anaheim Ducks – no laptops or tablets, briefcases, or bags larger than 12”x12”x12”

Arizona Coyotes – no laptops or tablets, strollers, or signs larger than 24”x36”

Boston Bruins – no laptops or tablets, or bags or briefcases of any kind

Buffalo Sabres – no bags larger than a briefcase (all bags must be soft-sided and fit under seats)

Carolina Hurricanes – no flags or signs larger than 24”x36”

Colorado Avalanche – no flags or signs larger than 22”x28”

Columbus Blue Jackets – no laptops or tablets

Dallas Stars – no laptops or tablets, or electronic cigarettes

Detroit Red Wings – no umbrellas

Edmonton Oilers – no bags larger than 12”x12”x6”, or seat cushions

Florida Panthers – no laptops, bags larger than 12”x12”, flags or signs larger than 24”x24”, strollers, airhorns or vuvezelas (other noisemaking devices are allowed), or previously purchased souvenir cups

Los Angeles Kings – no laptops or tablets, flags or signs larger than 11”x17”, or strollers

Minnesota Wild – no items larger than 12”x12”x6”, or masks

Montreal Canadiens – no bags larger than 35CMx35CMx15.25CM

Nashville Predators – no laptops or tablets

New Jersey Devils – no bags that cannot fit under seats

New York Islanders – no laptops or tablets, bags larger than 18”x14”x6”, flags or signs larger than 11”x17”, or pointed-tip umbrellas

Philadelphia Flyers – no strollers

Pittsburgh Penguins – no electronic cigarettes

San Jose Sharks – no tablets, flags or signs larger than 20”x30”, or masks

St. Louis Blues – no airhorns, or flags or signs larger than 12”x24”

Toronto Maple Leafs – no strollers

Vancouver Canucks – no masks

Vegas Golden Knights – no laptops or tablets, bags larger than 12”x12”x6”, flags or signs larger than 11”x17”, seat cushions, pointed-tip umbrellas, or masks
