Choose Austin First Fest

The breeze was filled with aromas of enticing delicacies, rockin’ bands kept the crowd hopping and the warm sunshine reminded us that the fall season in Texas doesn’t start for a few more weeks. October 14 was a special treat for Ticket City. As a member of Choose Austin First, Ticket City was invited to participate in a day long festival celebrating Austin businesses while raising money for a very important cause.

Choose Austin First is an organization comprised of Austin owned businesses. For the past three years, CAF has hosted a festival to promote area businesses and help a charity. In its fourth year, the newly dubbed Choose Austin First Fest helped to raise money for the Fisher House Program. Aiding military families, the Fisher House Foundation donates homes to be built on the grounds of military medical centers to house the families of injured loved ones during recovery.

We were there to participate in the fun, handing out Ticket City goodies and taking donations for the Fisher House. With the infamous Ticket City tailgate trailer set up, a 60” TV tuned to the Sunday NFL matchups entertained fans. Throughout the day we had a steady stream of viewers stopping by to check scores, but it was the Cowboys versus Patriots game that really gathered a crowd.

Cowboys fans are abundant in Austin with Dallas being so close. For the raffle that was held during the festival, Ticket City donated two tickets to the Cowboys versus Redskins game on November 18. The lucky winner was a very excited 8 year old who ran around in circles and couldn’t wait to tell his Dad.

From pet products to giant inflatable castles, there was something for everyone. Austinites enjoyed the delicious foods from area restaurants and live music by local bands. Playing throughout the day, The Balls, Two Hoots and a Holler, John Pointer and Joe King Carrasco entertained festival attendees.

The event made for a great way to keep in touch with the Austin community and contribute to a charity so dedicated to helping others!
