Cotton Bowl Outselling Orange Bowl by a Three to One Margin

Top 25 Bowl Games – Ranked by Fan Demand

#1 Cotton Bowl Classic – Notre Dame Fighting Irish vs Clemson Tigers

College Football Playoff SemifinalDecember 29, 2018

AT&T Stadium – Arlington, TX

This game is number one with a bullet, outselling the semifinal game in Miami by a 3 to 1 margin at this early stage.  The match-up of college football blue bloods in AT&T Stadium, the best football structure on planet earth, is easily lapping the field in terms of early sales.  The game features two undefeated teams, possibly the best team Clemson has ever fielded and a Notre Dame team that is looking to rewrite their narrative following their crushing defeat in the 2013 BCS Championship Game.

#2 Orange Bowl Game – Alabama Crimson Tide vs Oklahoma Sooners

College Football Playoff SemifinalDecember 29, 2018

Hard Rock Stadium – Miami Gardens, FL

Were this match-up to be in Jerry World, the ranking would easily be flipped due to OU’s proximity.  The cost of travel for Sooner fans coupled with Alabama fan fatigue (5th straight CFP appearance) has sales relatively slow out the gate.  It is still solidly number two well ahead of the rest of the pack.

#3 Sugar Bowl – Texas Longhorns vs Georgia Bulldogs

New Year’s Six Bowl – January 1, 2019

Mercedes-Benz Superdome – New Orleans, LA

The resurgent Texas Longhorns hope to put an exclamation point on their season against the highly rated Georgia Bulldogs.  Both teams enter the game coming off a loss in their championship games.  However, despite four close losses the Texas faithful are confident in the teams trajectory and hope to use this game as springboard into next season.  UGA fans entered the game disappointed about missing the Playoffs despite being finalist last year and narrowly being defeated in the College Football Championship Game.

#4 Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl – Michigan Wolverines vs Florida Gators

New Year’s Six Bowl – December 29, 2018

Mercedes-Benz Stadium – Atlanta, GA

The match-up of two of College Football’s powerhouse programs is a familiar one with the teams playing as recently as 2016 & 2017.  Michigan has won all four games, the first being played in 2003.  Michigan’s only win vs Urban Meyer came in the 2008 Capital One Bowl against a Tim Tebow led Florida squad.

#5 Rose Bowl – Washington Huskies vs Ohio State Buckeyes

New Year’s Six Bowl – January 1, 2019

Rose Bowl Stadium – Pasadena, CA

A traditional Pac 12 vs Big Ten match-up, featuring the actual conference champions.  Chris Peterson has produced a consistent winner in Seattle, but they have come up short when given the spotlight.  A win over the high-powered Buckeyes lead by Dwayne Haskins would get them over the hump in and earn the Huskies a new level of respect most people’s eyes.

#6 Citrus Bowl – Citrus Bowl – Penn State Nittany Lions vs Kentucky Wildcats

January 1, 2019

Camping World Stadium – Orlando, FL

The first non-New Year’s Six Bowl to crack the list.  Kentucky’s last New Year’s Day game appearance was in 1999 against none other than Penn State.  Everybody knows Penn State’s football fans are among the most loyal in the country.  However, contrary to popular belief Kentucky fans don’t just wait around for basketball.  They are ardent supporters of the football program as well.

#7 Alamo Bowl – Iowa State Cyclones vs Washington State Cougars

December 28, 2018

Alamodome – San Antonio, TX

Same story different day here if you’re Iowa State.  The Cyclones are playing against a Big 12 team that happens to be in the Pac 12 Conference.  It’s also Mike Leach’s first game against a Big 12 foe since being unceremoniously fired by Texas Tech.

#8 Music City Bowl – Purdue Boilermakers vs Auburn Tigers

December 28, 2018

Nissan Stadium – Nashville, TN

A five hour drive from either campus makes Nashville the perfect setting for this game.  It features a match-up between one of the football’s hottest coaches, Jeff Brohm, and Gus Malzahn who always seems to occupy one of college football’s the hottest seats.

#9 Outback Bowl – Mississippi State Bulldogs vs Iowa Hawkeyes

January 1, 2019

Raymond James Stadium – Tampa, FL

Iowa fans love the Outback Bowl, they are making their sixth appearance in the last 15 years.  The games eclipsed 50,000 in attendance in each of the appearances.  The Bulldogs from Mississippi State are making their first appearance on the New Year’s Day Bowl.

#10 Fiesta Bowl – LSU Tigers vs UCF Knights

New Year’s Six Bowl – January 1, 2019

State Farm Stadium – Glendale, AZ

The lowest ranked of the New Year’s Six bowls the Fiesta Bowl features a blue blood in LSU and a hungry for respect UCF squad riding a 25 game win streak.  Despite Central Florida boasting the highest enrollment in the United States, the fan base is still relatively small and the team lacks the mystique of more traditional college football powers.  Additionally, travel costs for both teams to get to Glendale are among the highest among all bowls.

#11 Camping World Bowl – WVU Mountaineers vs Syracuse Orange

December 28, 2018

Camping World Stadium – Orlando, FL

An old Big East Matchup. This the 61st match-up between these two teams with Syracuse boasting a 33-27 series edge.  West Virginia is riding a three game losing streak against Syracuse dating back to their 2012 blowout loss in the Pinstripe Bowl.

#12 Holiday Bowl – Northwestern Wildcats vs Utah Utes

December 31, 2018

SDCCU Stadium – San Diego, CA

Like the Sugar Bowl a match-up of conference championship game losers.  However, it lacks the same level of fanfare.

#13 Texas Bowl – Baylor Bears vs Vanderbilt Commodores

December 27, 2018

NRG Stadium – Houston, TX

Rapidly improving Baylor hopes to notch a bowl win vs a vulnerable SEC foe.  Expect all green at the game given, Houston’s close proximity to Waco and their statewide alumni base.

#14 Belk Bowl  – South Carolina Gamecocks vs Virginia Cavaliers

December 29, 2018

Bank of America Stadium – Charlotte, NC

These teams have played 35 games against one another with USC holding a 21-13-1 edge.  The game is a 90 minute drive from the Carolina campus and four hours from UVA.  Demand has been strong from north and south of Charlotte.

#15 TaxSlayer Bowl – NC State Wolfpack vs Texas A&M Aggies

December 31, 2018

TIAA Bank Field – Jacksonville, FL

The Aggies hope to notch a win against a game NC State squad boasting 9 wins entering the game, while riding a three game win streak.  Texas A&M boasts a three game win streak as well and win here would carry forward the momentum from their 7 overtime win against LSU into next season.

#16 Las Vegas Bowl – Fresno State vs Arizona State

December 15, 2018

Sam Boyd Stadium – Las Vegas, NV

Why this game isn’t number one every year is beyond me.  Enjoy your time in Vegas Bulldog and Sun Devil Fans. I’m a little bit jealous.

#17 Redbox Bowl – Michigan State Spartans vs Oregon Ducks

December 31, 2018

Levi’s Stadium – Santa Clara, CA

Both teams enter the game after seasons that I can only describe as baffling.  Boasting great wins against top flight opponents and inexplicable losses.  Oregon and MSU boast loyal fan bases and have shown their support despite the travel distance.

#18 AutoZone Liberty Bowl – Missouri Tigers vs Oklahoma State Cowboys

December 31, 2018

Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium – Memphis, TN

An old Big 8 match-up.  The teams have played 52 times with holding a 29-23 edge.  This game should rise up the charts.  The travels costs are low for both teams and it is a rekindling of an old, but recent rivalry.

#19 Military Bowl – Cincinnati Bearcats vs Virginia Tech Hokies

December 31, 2018

Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium

The Hokies got bowl eligible with a win over Marshall last week.  Their reward, a date against the 10 win Cincinnati Bearcats.

#20 Pinstripe Bowl – Miami Hurricanes vs Wisconsin Badgers

December 27, 2018

Yankee Stadium – Bronx, NY

The what could have been bowl.  Both teams entered the season ranked in the top 10 (#8 & #4 respectively).  The game may be a little cold for fans of the Canes, but Wisconsin legendary fan base is making there way to NYC.

#21 Cheez It Bowl – Cal Golden Bears vs TCU Horned Frogs

December 26, 2018

Chase Field – Phoenix, AZ

Since Cal’s inexplicable loss to UCLA, they have been on tear defeating Washington, USC, Colorado, and Stanford among others.  TCU also finished strong with two wins as an underdog in their last two games to get eligible.  This year’s game is very similar to the 2015 TicketCity Cactus Bowl match up between Oklahoma State and Washington.  TCU is no stranger to traveling west for bowls.  The have a Rose Bowl and played in this bowl in 20121 when it was the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl.

#22 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl – Western Michigan vs BYU Cougars

December 21, 2018

Albertsons Stadium – Boise, ID

Kudos to the BYU fans for making the trek north to play the WMU Broncos. You only get so many chances get seeing a game on the blue turf off your bucket list.

#23 Armed Forces Bowl – Army Black Knights vs Houston Cougars

December 22, 2018

Amon G. Carter Stadium – Fort Worth, TX

Army is undefeated in two Armed Forces Bowl appearances.  This is their second straight appearance. With a win over Navy, Army could enter the game boasting 10 wins.  Of note, Army has never won 11 games in a season.  The Major Applewhite lead UH Cougars look to end their once very promising season with a strong win.

#24 Gasparilla Bowl – Marshall Thundering vs South Florida Bulls

December 20, 2018

Raymond James Stadium – Tampa, FL

Despite a 5 game losing streak USF and Charlie Strong are going bowling in their home stadium.  Marshall has been up and down all year, but to their credit have played well on the road.

#25 First Responder Bowl – Boston College Eagles vs Boise State Broncos

December 26, 2018

Cotton Bowl Stadium – Dallas, TX

The bowl formerly known as the TicketCity Bowl rounds out the top 25.
