Competition for the NFL?

Bill Hambrecht (Net Worth $500 Million) and Tim Armstrong (Google Exec) have founded a new professional football league, that’s set to compete against the NFL. The United Football League (UFL) has selected Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Mexico City as host cities. And they’ve convinced Dallas Mavericks owner, Mark Cuban, to buy the first team in the league. It’s estimated Cuban paid $30 Million for the yet unnamed franchise.

So could this new league really compete with the NFL? Not likely, the NFL is the most profitable professional sports league in the country right now. But the UFL has lined up some sponsors with big bucks. And they’ve selected cities to expand into, where the NFL has no presence. So maybe there’s a chance.
