First BCS Rankings of 2007

The first BCS rankings will be released on Sunday, October 14th. So as the 2007 college football season hits the half way point, it’s time to start looking at college bowl games. View the complete schedule of 2007-2008 bowl games here.

The BCS National Championship game is being played at the home of the Sugar Bowl this year, the Louisiana Superdome. The game will be held on the evening of Monday, January 7th – which is 6 days after the Allstate Sugar Bowl will be played at the Superdome. The BCS Championship game will feature the teams that finish ranked #1 and #2 in the BCS rankings. The winner of the BCS National Championship game will be crowned college football’s National Champion. Fox will televise the BCS National Championship game at 7PM CST. Currently the LSU Tigers and Cal Golden Bears sit at the top of the human polls. When they first BCS rankings are released we’ll find out if they top the BCS.

The other four BCS Bowl Games are:
* Fedex Orange Bowl – January 3rd at Dolphins Stadium in Miami
* Tostitos Fiesta Bowl – January 2nd at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona (home of Superbowl )
* Allstate Sugar Bowl – January 1st at Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana
* Rose Bowl presented by Citi – January 1st at Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California

For the 2007-2008 bowl season there are 32 other (non BCS) bowl games.
The first bowl game, and the bowl game with the longest name, is the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl on December 20th. The newly named bowl games are: R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl, Valero Alamo Bowl, Petro Sun Independence Bowl, and the Roady’s Humanitarian Bowl. Plus there are a few bowl games where the corporate sponsor has not yet been announced (Texas Bowl & New Mexico Bowl).
